Not to nitpick, but 'big' is a rather nebulous, non-specific term. In that particular context, it could mean tall, or broad-built, or corpulent, or packin' a massive schlong, to say nothing of the possibilities such as suffering from gigantism, elephantiasis, or being all swoll'd up from a bee sting and peanut allergy.
Sure, I'm probably being silly, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there was a fetish for that sort of thing, with their own website (like www.anaphylaxissluts.com) and some trying-to-be-cute-but-really-just-fucked-up nickname (I bet they call themselves 'puffers' of 'Fugu fuckers' or some other stupid shit that makes you want to punch them in the throat). I'd do the research myself, but then I'd need to drink bleach to get the knowledge that such a thing actually exists back out of my brain.
Point is, get yourself a goddamn vocabulary builder, because 'big' is a lazy fucking adjective.

2010 was only three years ago. Two, given that it's only January.

Population density is certainly a factor. Cities pretty much always have more violence than rural areas.

Most of the data goes back to 1998. If someone pulled this shit in a GW thread you'd be all over it.

Uh, yeah, sort of my point all along. It's not about guns, it's about homicidal intentions. There's shit tons of guns here in VT and shit tons of guns in cities, where they are illegal. That's why there's so much gun violence in the place with lots of guns and almost none in the other place with lots of guns. Right? So if we take away guns from VT farmers, gang shitheads will stop killing each other in Detroit.
Are we reading the same article? The graph shows the trend from 1970 to 2010. Nearly every paragraph talks about years more recent than 1988.

And yet Britain has a higher population density than any state in the US and our homicide rate is about a quarter of yours.
I'm just going off the footnotes in the article, two out of the three refs given stop in 1998.

Sure, I know, but I don't think that's a gun thing. I think it's a culture of violence thing. I think Vermont is more similar to other US states than any foreign country can ever be, as are Arizona, Alaska, and Utah, each of which gets a 0 from the Brady Bunch.
Those are specific to certain bits. The text is more up to date and primarily drawn from most recent CDC reporting, 2010 vintage.

No culture of violence in Britain? Seriously?

The United States of America isn't just a tiny island.
It's an actual country.
