Bikes haven't evolved much (in Holland) since the 1950s, at least not in style. I will say they are the most comfortable bikes to ride.
The latest and greatest on the Dutch scene is the " bakfiets". I think I'll pass, though:
And, as summer isn't for quite a few more months yet, I think I might get more use out of the leather.

WTF? That's ridiculous looking. It doesn't seem all that safe either.
What I want is a cream-colored Vespa with a brown leather seat. I love the 1960s/early 1970s Italian mod style, and it doesn't get better than this:

Safe, shmafe. The great thing about Nederland is that they have designated bike paths. Think roadway, then bike path outside that, then sidewalk outside that. Bike paths have their own stop lights and whatnot, too. Because of the paths, rules, and stoplights (I think) no one wears a bike helmet. Ever. Bikes are a main mode of transportation. I rode the hell out of my bike when I lived there. Gasoline is fucking expensive, but not only that, bikes and public transport get you 'bout everywhere you want to go. <shrug>
Back in the States, especially where I live, I don't ride my bike outside my neighborhood without a helmet. Too many fatalities from jackasses who don't pay attention.
Nice Vespa. I approve. But wear a bad-ass biker helmet and leathers. That'd be fucking awesome!

Priced Out: Lenox Lounge
By now, everyone knows Lenox Lounge is closing; another victim in the continued gentrification of Harlem. I’ve actually been expecting this to happen for some time. The rumors of its closing had been circulating since St. Nick’s Pub shut down last year. The owner says the landlord doubled the rent from 10k to 20k leaving him no choice but to shut down.
Fitting.
I could echo the sentiments of many and say “what a shame” it is and move on. I mean, after all, it’s old jazz club whose time has come and gone. But as a person born in Harlem it is more than that. It is another example of how the neighborhood I grew up in is being washed away and rebranded to suit the needs of gentrifiers also known in Harlem as “white folks”. In my opinion, the bar should have long been designated a landmark like Minton’s Playhouse, given the depth of its history in the world of music and in the city of New York. Sadly, that will not happen.
When I lived in Harlem as an adult, I did the live jazz scene heavy. On any given Friday night I’d go to Lenox Lounge, 449 LA, Shrine then up to St. Nick’s Pub to finish the night off. Unfortunately, that will never happen again and I no longer live in Harlem. Like the Lenox Lounge, I too was priced out. Nope. I cannot afford to live in a neighborhood that I once felt like I “owned”. As a child, I went to PS 200 on a 150th and 7th, played “skellies” on every block from 144th to 153rd, kissed my first girl in the courtyard of Dunbar houses, played in the “mountains” of Bradhurst Park, first heard Hip Hop at the “Roof Top” Skating Rink.
I loved that Harlem.
I don’t recognize this one and that is not by accident.
It reminds me of the neighborhood of Georgetown in Washington, DC which used to have a large African American population. Our history in the neighborhood was once rich and deep. You would never know that if you went to Georgetown today. All that remains of that history is Mount Zion Union Methodist Church. I suppose all that will be left of our history in Harlem will be the Apollo. I mean Justin Beiber has to perform somewhere, right?
So when people talk to me about how much better Harlem is today than it was, my immediate answer is always the same…better for who?
Better for who?

Did ya’ll know that the new Jim Beam “Devil’s Cut” bourbon is made through a process that poor locals near the distillery invented?
up until really recently, the bourbon distilleries in Kentucky used to just toss out their old barrels once they’d been used. Resourceful poor and working class folks would then scavenge these barrels, fill them about half way full of water, replace the lids, and then set them out in the hot humid sun. After a few days/weeks of sitting in the sun, the highly concentrated bourbon that gets trapped in the wood of the barrels leeches out into the water, creating a potent brew known as “Devil’s Cut.”
Well, capitalism being what it is, the distilleries found out about this process and decided it was time to profit from this folksy tradition themselves. Jim Beam no longer allows locals to take home their discarded barrels, and have instead started making and selling Devil’s Cut themselves.
This concludes your Kentucky learnin for the day.

Coming from someone that never uses the word, this is retarded in the extreme. It's like complaining about how much Berlin changed when they tore down the Wall. Sure, someone that doesn't live there can bitch and moan about its "gentrification", but I'll bet the people that do live there are happy that their neighborhood is improving.
Do you complain about the Cotton Club being closed down, racist? Or do clubs that cater primarily to "white folks" deserve to be closed? If anyone ever argued against you being a racist shitstain, the above quoted should shut them up.
Cue the non sequitur GIF.
