How long can I go?

I don't know the rule, but I find stories that ramble on to lose their punch!

I agree about rambling. Most of my stories are very short by most standards, but I've got this long one pouring out of me and I can't stop. It will end up about 8-9000 words I think.

You can go as long as you can keep it interesting. I have many here 20k and over. If you look at the all time top lists you'll see many of the highest voted stories here are 4 pages and up.

About 12,000-14,000 words is a good length for most stories. That's three lit pages or there abouts.
Now how long?
There is no top length. YOU want to do a story that is 100 lit pages? have fun the site will accept it.
I saw one that was 29 pages long done recently.
And as for the longer stories dragging that is the quality of the writer and writing. If it's a good story it could be that hundred pages and your wishing it was more.

Thanks! I can't promise that other people will be interested, but I've never felt such a need to tell a story. I'll probably end up in the looney bin if I don't.

Thank you! I am certain it will be under 10k. I have never seen one over six pages and thought that was why people wrote in chapters. I personally avoid the series and like stand alone stories so I really didn't want to break it up. Thanks for your help!

A story in the 10k range is only two-and-half Literotica pages. Well within the average range for a Literotica entry (whether a full story or a chapter).

I'm pretty sure the database has the text column of the story defined so that the field will hold at least 2 gbytes if not more.
A CLOB/NCLOB data type in oracle can hold up to 8 terabytes of character data.
I'm sure SQL Server has an equivalent size and type data element.
So write on!

For a bad story, 750 words is too long. For a great story, 100,000 words aren't enough. Hope yours is the second kind.
By the way, a Lit page is 20,000 characters (plus or minus 500).

A lit page is approx. 3,750 words. Just shy of 20K characters including spaces.

That's about 3 Lit pages or slightly less. A length which I consider to be ideal.

Hell, short for me lately has been in the 30K range.
The Big Catch was short, only 10 lit pages.

Well, the top story in the Incest HOF is 42 pages long, so upper length doesn't seem to be important.

Just in case you get ambitious, when testing the submission form when it was first adopted, I successfully submitted four MILLION words and didn't break the submission page; It has been updated a few times since then, but I wouldn't worry about not being able to submit anything you write because it's too long.
