Rikku knew she shouldn’t be watching. She knew she should just leave, head back to camp and leave them alone, but she couldn’t. Her emerald Al-bhed eyes kept staring at the two of them in the lake, holding each other close and kissing like there was no tomorrow. Well, she supposed for Yunie, there really wasn’t.
Rikku balled up her fists and punched the dirt. She wished she was the one in Tidus' arms. She’d liked him ever since she met him. He was odd at first, yeah, but he was so kind to her and didn’t care that she was an Al Bhed. He’d been the one to tell off Wakka when he’d judged her by her race and he’d been the one to stop and insist they stay at Rin’s Travel Agency in the Thunder Plains because Rikku was afraid to go on. Tidus had always looked out for her, and for a while, she’d thought he may have liked her the way she liked him, but apparently not, seeing as his tongue was halfway down Yunie’s throat right now. Rikku knew Yunie deserved him. Yunie deserved the best, because she was so selfless and sweet and everything Rikku wasn’t.
She knew she had no right to be angry with her cousin, but she couldn’t help being envious. She’d give anything to be the one wrapped up in Tidus’ embrace right now, being told how they’d dance in Zanarkand and play Blitzball. Yuna and Tidus had definitely sealed the deal now. Well, it’s not as if Yuna’s going to live much longer, the thought raced through her mind, unbidden and despicable. Rikku’s tears fell faster. How could she even think such a thing?!
Ashamed and furious with herself, Rikku sprang up from the ground and rushed away. Of course she didn’t want Yuna to die! Rikku loved her with all her heart! She was just really upset right now and pretty unstable. She was still young, and Tidus was the first boy she’d gotten so head over heels for, so now, seeing him with her cousin really hurt her.
Rikku wasn’t paying much attention to where she was going. She figured her feet would lead her back to camp eventually. Tears blurred her vision and she didn’t feel like investing energy in navigating right now. Besides, there was no way she wanted everyone at camp to see her like this.
She took a sharp turn past yet another sparkling crystal and then crashed into something tall and hard. “Ow!” she exclaimed, falling flat on her ass. Rikku wiped her face hastily and looked up to see what had blocked her path. Her puffy red eyes spotted Wakka. Great, like she needed his racist nonsense right now. They'd sort of, kind of made up when her Home was getting destroyed, but she doubted his racism had just disappeared. He literally disliked her for no reason! Rikku glared up at him, angrier at the Yuna and Tidus situation than anything else, but having him here wasn't helping. “What are you doing here?” she asked, hands on her hips.
