I get gift cards for Christmas, birthday, Fathers Day, and this holiday I'm ordering books by John OHara, Charles Willeford, Gay Talese, and a few porn books written well.

Willeford wrote porn early on, and his wares remain controversial tho he died long ago. But he inspired the best writers. OHara was the best dialogue master. Even his errors are right. He observed that only TEX and PILOT speak perfect English.

I added twor classics by Fritz Perls to the list: GESTALT THERAPY VERBATIMIM, and PULL YOUR HEAD OUTTA YOUR ASS AND GET REAL.

Perls was a German psychiatrist who broke with Freud and created a psychotherapy I was trained to use back in grad school. Its simple stuff. Dr. Perls said, THERES ME, THERES YOU, AND ALL THE REST IS PSYCHOTIC BULL SHIT.

Perls hadda reputation for being an asshole but the reality is he asked straight questions, and mostpeople are crooked.
