Stay warm, Timothy. I'm a little surprised by what I gather is kind of a slow pace of entries, usually this one is quite popular. But perhaps there will be some late entries. Wish I could provide one.

God knows I tried to bolster the number of entries. But that's gone; I'm working on stories for the next calendar year now.

I'd say my New Year's resolution is to find more time for writing, but I'm afraid I'd break it before 2013 even started.

I think that in recent years the Winter Holiday list has quickly gone over a 100 entries. That's just an impression, though.

You're probably right. I did check back on some of the old winter contests. The last I could find was 2009 - 122 entries (unless I missed count) haha.
2008 - 73 entries, 2007 - 79 entries. I guess the previous contest thread hasn't been updated since the middle of 2010.

It was interesting to read some of the names of authors who submitted stories. You and I were both on the lists. I guess that makes us old timers. LOL

Contest analysis - Winter Holidays Contest 2012

Good evening. The dice tell me that there are 59 stories in the competition to date, with an average score of 4.19 from an average of 241 votes. Stories had an average of 20,768 views, an average of 7 favorites, and an average of 7 comments. The average ratio of votes to views is 1.19%. The average number of pages is 2.5, with the longest story being 12 pages.

So far there have been a total of 12,574 votes, 1,225,341 views, 438 favorites and 468 comments.

The standard deviation of scores (from the average of 4.19) is 0.39 and the standard deviation of votes (from the average of 241) is 250. The median score is 4.18, the median number of votes is 144 and the median number of pages is 2. The top 25% of scores are 4.59 or above and the bottom 25% of scores are 3.89 or below.

Sweeps

Some votes have been reduced (swept) since the start of the competition. A total of 10 stories have had their votes adjusted, with 10 sweeps resulting in a new score that day which is higher than before and 1 sweep resulting in a new score that day which is lower. There were a total of 92 votes swept, being an average of 9 per swept story. The maximum number of votes swept for a single story was 46. (Figures based on toplists, and may not be totally accurate).

Yep, and they sure did keep me warm for quite a while, so thanks for that.

And I can see that quite a number of new stories are listed in the newest statistics from SSS, so maybe the contest is picking up speed again. Good luck to the new entries.
