The Magical Alphabet Game Redux

Dibs. Lots of overlap with the "capital punishment" theme here...

8 Men and 4 Women - Diamanda Galás
Iron Lady - Phil Ochs (though I prefer Diamanda's cover)
I Fought The Law (And The Law Won) - The Clash (or the DKs version...)
Hurricane - Bob Dylan
They Dance Alone - Sting
Biko - Peter Gabriel
Nelson Mandela - The Specials
In The Name Of The Father - Sinéad O'Connor
Born Dead - Body Count
Moving Pictures - What About Me?

Next up: cover versions that thoroughly mangled the original, deliberately or otherwise. Special restriction: no more than two by RevCo.

Naturally, these choices are highly subjective. One could fill out all 10 with William Shatner alone.

Rocket Man - William Shatner
Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit
These Boots Are Made For Walkin' - Jessica Simpson
Satisfaction - Britney Spears
American Pie - Madonna
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Miley Cyrus
Born To Run - McFly (more like McLovin)
You Shook Me All Night Long - Celine Dion
My Generation - Hilary Duff
Funkytown = Pseudo Echo (Don't fuck with my Funkytown!)

Next: Covers that are better than the original (again, very subjective).

Eleanor Rigby by Aretha Franklin / originally by The Beatles
And I Love Him by Esther Phillips / originally And I Love Her by The Beatles
Dear Prudence by Siouxsie And The Banshees / originally by The Beatles
Make You Feel My Love by Adele / originally by Bob Dylan
It's Oh So Quiet by Björk / originally by Betty Hutton
Pancho and Lefty by Emmylou Harris / originally by Townes Van Zandt
Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys by Karen O / originally by Ed Bruce
Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin / originally by Roger Miller
Dreaming My Dreams by Marianne Faithfull / originally by Waylon Jennings
Inside And Out by Feist / originally by The Bee Gees

Disagree with my picks? Well... suck it!

My collection, unfortunately, doesn’t include ten songs about fellatio, but it does have a few. They’re far less explicit than many Rap works, so I’m afraid they’ll be overlooked. I rather enjoy the subtleties, so I’ll note them here, if no one objects. I’m looking forward to finding out about some more to listen to.

Madonna’s “Like a Prayer”

When you call my name it's like a little prayer
I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there
In the midnight hour I can feel your power
Just like a prayer you know I'll take you there

Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love”

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love

and, adding cunnilingus,

Leonard Cohen’s “Take This Waltz” (After Garcia Lorca's "Little Viennese Waltz")

And I'll dance with you in Vienna
I'll be wearing a river's disguise
The hyacinth wild on my shoulder,
My mouth on the dew of your thighs

Thanks for your indulgence.

For clarification, that there are at least 10 songs: including Rap, this list could be doubled at least:

Walk on the Wild Side - Lou Reed
Love in an Elevator - Aerosmith
Chelsea Hotel#2 - Leonard Cohen
Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song (sequel) - Jeffrey Lewis
Head - Prince
The Most Offensive Song Ever - Trey Parker, Matt Stone and others
Sodomy - Cast of Hair
Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams (about oral sex by his oen admission)Kiss That Frog - Peter Gabriel
Reel Around the Fountain - The Smiths (British gay 80's slang)

As I'm answering my own challenge, I offer the next challenge topic to whoever wanders through here next.

I didn't doubt that there were many; I just noted my limited familiarity with them (I did overlook Lou Reed and Aerosmith) in my music collection. Thanks for introducing the others to me.

So, I will propose the next theme -- songs based on fairy tales.

I can't come close to ten, but I'll donate these to anybody who wants to complete this list.

It's Too Late - Carole King
Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) - Green Day

Everlast's "The Letter" comes close, but I don't think it quite counts; it's more about trying to deal with anger/sadness in an adult way.

Apologies for skipping over Bramblethorn's reply.

These are about either resignation, relief, or happiness that it's over:

Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine) - Bob Dylan
We Just Disagree - Dave Mason
If the Phone Doesn't Ring It's Me - Jimmy Buffett
Thank God And Greyhound - Roy Clark
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson
I Didn’t Like You Anyway - The Donnas
Dime A Dozen - Tuscadero
I Feel Better - Frightened Rabbit
