The non-erotic version of Lit?

I'm thinking about trying my hand at non-erotic fiction. Is there a story hosting site for mainstream fiction that gets the volume of reader traffic that literotica does?

Lit has a non-erotic category.

Actually, I have the same question. The single issue I have with Lit is the stigma of posting on a "porn" site, which I have to hide... :(

It would be nice to have a venue for non-erotic stories that would be acceptable to my family.

There is Wattpad. It has strong readership but requires social marketing to achieve it. Mostly new writers, the site prefers anime, fanfiction, and vampires. I break a few rules and do fairly well though crossing 10k readers is much more difficult than on Lit. There are stories with many millions of reads on the site. Those authors mastered the social aspect.

Lit is by far the best way to achieve a large readership.

Since Literotica has a nonerotic section, ya think they really want URLs of competing sites being posted to the forum? (See forum rule #6.)

Aside from Wattpad, there's also Writing Dot Com and Smashwords. I've never found any of them as popular or dynamic as Literotica, but what do you expect?

I don't think any of the sites mentioned in this thread will be real competition for Lit. It is unique. But as I also said, it has a drawback, and some of us would like to have a potential non-erotica site. Despite its non-erotic section, I could not share my non-erotic stories with family or friends at Lit - I simply can't. I know some people don't care or even revel in their erotic writing and can advertise it openly. I'm not among those, but would love a similar site without the stigma. By no means would I stop submitting here, as long as I can. It serves different needs.

Perhaps Laurel will weigh in with her opinion.

I don't think it's your call. I'm just using common business sense, common courtesy to Lit., and the actual rules posted here. This could be handled by PMs.

Perhaps Lit Non-Erotic has a stigma for you but I know of two writers who are publishing mainstream novels because of short stories they posted in the Non-Erotic category here. One of them is me.

My alt that gets the highest ratings of all my alts, plus a good many reads, posts only nonerotica here.

Except for the occasional "hit," there won't ever be a non-erotic version of lit because . . . non-erotic.

I think her point is its still part of a site that's 99% porn and I don't think the publishers that found you and the other person were family members and that's more her point than that no one reads it. Her point is the knee jerk "Its a porn site" she would get from friends and such.

Actually I quoted the wrong post. I meant to quote the one about no readers in Non-erotic.

I do't know DG Hear has won multiple contests in Non erotic and those stories had a pretty fair amount of traffic.

Lynn has also won a couple of contests with non-erotic stories.

OK, fair enough, perhaps I shouldn't have asked the question here based on rule 6, but how exactly was I supposed to "handle it by PMs" if I had no clue who had the answer? You are suggesting I should have randomly PM'ed people one at a time until I hit on someone who was in the know?

Denny

Once again I'm confused.
So some of you want a non-erotic version of Lit so grandma and the grandkids can read your stories?

Hopefully granny is over 18 but there are still rules against the kiddies being on Lit.
Besides while they are here reading about Goldilocks and the three bare Perverts they are bound to see some four letter words and maybe pictures of Goldilocks in the buff sleeping in baby bear's bed .;)

Asking the question is fine as is mentioning the name of other sites-especially if they are not erotica sites-posting the links may be a mistake, I say may because like everything else here sometimes the site will delete the link other times they don't care.

Wattpad has tons of readers and may reasonably be considered competition with Lit, but Stories Space has fewer than 3000 members - I can't see how they could ever be considered a threat to Lit. Despite its scant membership, the latter is more along the lines of a non-erotic Lit in terms of format.

I've heard-and of course I'll stress that, I don't know for sure-that wattpad is getting a pretty good erotica following and mostly because its a more modern website and appeals to younger people, this site looks like a dinosaur, which doesn't bother many of us, but some younger people it does.

What do you two do? Upload 3 stories a day? Jeez you're cranking them out.

Denny--------- We don't have forever yet we have a lifetime of stories . I know neither of us are writers but we're getting a decent following which encourages us to keep adding more very short chapters to our books.:rose:

I've been holding back until Laurel gets caught up.

Thanks.
