Republicans are quite simply un-American

In addition to being openly hostile towards America’s Free Press and the First Amendment Protections that are supposed to protect them government harassment, Republicans are also very hostile towards Constitutional protections that give all Americans Freedom of Religion and guarantees an immutable Separation of Church and State.

Public Policy Polling released a survey measuring Republican attitudes and opinions. A disturbingly large percentage of them (57 percent) said that Christianity should, in fact, be established as the United States’ national religion. Younger Republicans (in the 18 – 45 age group) were even more in favor of chucking the Constitutional Separation of Church and State (63 percent). And those Republicans who backed Mike Huckabee in the Republican primary were almost universal in the idea of making Christianity the official religion of the United States (94 percent).

Let me be clear, not only is it a direct violation of the Constitution of the United States to establish a state-sponsored religion, it is also an idea that always turns out horrible results. Anyone who doubts this need only google what it was like when Catholicism became the official religion of Slovakia in the 20th century, or what it’s like right now with Islam as the official religion of Saudi Arabia.

Theocracies are always dictatorships. One religious group gets all the power, and people who have the "wrong" religious beliefs are executed, oppressed or deported.

Theocratic rule goes against everything America stands for. However, theocratic rule is EXACTLY what millions of Republicans want.

They seem to want to live in a Christian theocracy, where the government tells you what religious doctrines you’ll follow and what church you’ll attend and criticizing the government will get you thrown into jail.

Back in the eighteenth century America fought a war to GET AWAY from a government like that! Now, Republicans are pushing America back in that direction!

Republicans are un-American. It’s just that simple.

The Constitution was originally written to say,

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

If the Republicans had their way, it would be re-written to say,

"Congress shall make many laws establishing Christianity as the official religion of the United States of America and prohibiting the free exercise of Hinduism, Wicca, Islam and other heretical religions. Freedom of speech, or of the press shall be limited to prohibit the American people from taking the Lords name in vain or engaging in blasphemy. The right of people to assemble peacefully will also be limited to keep the people from engaging in anti-Christian activities or encouraging others to do so."

Don't leave out the Republicans' firm belief in (and exercise of) voter suppression.

Would that be the part where we stuffed a bunch of ballot boxes in ... was it Michigan?

Or the fact that there are more registered Democrats in some California counties than there are human beings?

Or my grandfather, who voted R his entire life and has voted D ever since he died 20 years ago?

Oh, sorry. That was the Russians...

:nana: (sorry, that was the closest emo I could find to ROFL)

No, that would be like the head of elections of Georgia who, while also running for governor, is using every trick in the book to suppress (selected) voting on that election.

You've got some nerve, but you've been trained in Trumpian zombieism.

I'm not read up on Georgia politics, so I won't weigh in on whether the Rep candidate (incumbent?) is trying to suppress anything, however I do recall seeing Stacey Abrams' video a week or so back where she enthusiastically declared that the Blue Wave included not only blacks but illegal aliens. If she is welcoming votes from illegals then I guess it would not surprise me to discover the Rep in the race doesn't want non citizens to vote. I should HOPE you wouldn't either.

But thank you for the course correction. You're right. You commented about voter suppression which is VERY different from the blatant voter fraud practiced systematically by the Democrat Party for decades. My abject apologies and I shall try to stay on topic in the future.

Well, of course you aren't.

I'm a damned Yankee. All I remember about Georgia is an orange car and some kids with dynamite tipped arrows.

Still, you have to admit, encouraging illegals to vote is pretty sleazy...

In a theocracy, you get about as far away from democracy as humanly possible. Individual rights get trashed as the individual is considered unimportant in a theocracy. God’s Will takes precedence over the rights of the individual.

America hasn’t even become a theocracy yet, and already Christian theocrats are calling for non-Christians (like atheists, agnostics, Jews, Muslims and Sikhs) to be stripped of their legal rights. Christian theocrats have also called for heretics (such as bisexuals, gays, hermaphrodites and lesbians) to be stripped of legal rights as well.

The theocrats have already passed legal statutes that make it illegal for atheists to hold public office in states like Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.

And when the Supreme Court declared that gay couples had just as much right to marry as straight couples, Mike Huckabee declared that the states can ignore the Supreme Court, and that the Supreme Court cannot overrule God.

Huckabee has even gone so far as to say that we should amend the U.S. Constitution so that it conforms with his interpretation of what God wants.

Followers of Mike Huckabee, Pat Robertson, Bryan Fischer, Rick Santorum, Sarah Palin and other Republicans all seem to think that it would be GREAT to turn America into a Christian theocracy, however, anybody who has studied history knows how woefully mistaken they are.

We have actual historical evidence of what a Christian theocracy looks like. There have been a number of Christian theocracies throughout history, however the most recent one was in twentieth century Europe.

From 1939 to 1945 Slovakia was a Christian theocracy under the rule of Father Jozef Tiso (a Roman Catholic priest).

Jozef Tiso ran the country as a Christian Theocracy and only ONE political party was allowed to operate in Slovakia. This was the Slovak People’s Party which was the Slovak People’s Party, it was overtly religious and avowedly Catholic.

Only Catholics were allowed to run for public office and many priests served in the Slovak legislature. All legislation had to conform to religious dogma.

As you may have guessed, non-Christians in Slovakia were stripped of their legal rights. The Christian theocracy deported about 70,000 Jews, claiming that it was “a Christian act to expel the Jews so Slovakia could free itself from pests.”

Those Slovak Jews were all deported directly to extermination camps. More than 85% of those deported died brutal, ugly deaths while in those camps.

This is the sort of thing that you can expect if Republicans like Pat Robertson and Mike Huckabee succeed in turning America into a theocracy.

You do realize the Republican party did not exist at the time the Constitution was written, right?

It was formed almost a century later as part of a movement to force the Democrats to stop using slaves.

Wow. You keep talking like this; somebody’s going to think you read a history book or something! You almost sound educated!

Yes, back in the 1860's, the Republican Party had abolitionists like Abraham Lincoln, James Shepherd Pike and Thaddeus Stevens however, that was a LONG time ago!

Nowadays, the Republican Party is filled with shameless racists like Seth Grossman, Jefferson Sessions, Corey Stewart, Donald Trump and Ted Yoho.

Here, let me give you a history lesson. Feel free to take notes. This material may be on the test later.

Back in the 1860's, Democrats were racists, however, in the 1960's, we see the Democrats have become civil rights activists, fighting for the rights of African Americans. For example, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965 act were pushed through congress by a Democratic president. Many Republicans (including Barry Goldwater, Ron Paul, Ronald Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush) opposed the legislation that ended the Jim Crow laws. Many Republicans thought that laws that prevented black people from voting should remain in place forever. Many Republicans thought that laws that segregated black Americans from white Americans should remain in place forever.

And when Lyndon Baines Johnson succeeded in banishing the Jim Crow laws, many of the Dixiecrats (Southern Democrats who believed in the Jim Crow laws) left the Democratic Party and joined the Republican Party.

And then there’s Richard Nixon's Southern Strategy, which was basically to exploit the fears of White Racists in the South to win their votes.

Are you taking notes? This stuff is important. You should know this stuff.

And then there’s the infamous Republican, Jerry Falwell, who repeatedly denounced civil rights leaders. And in 1967 when he set up his own school, it was racially segregated because Falwell didn't believe that black Americans and white Americans should be forced to associate with each other.

And then there’s that iconic Republican hero, Ronald Reagan. Reagan gave a speech in Mississippi in 1980 where he talked about "state’s rights" and how the federal government should stop telling the states what to do and how the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was "humiliating to the South."

President Ronald Reagan maintained a close alliance with the racist, Apartheid regime in South Africa, even though it was showing no signs of serious reform. And the Reagan administration demonized opponents of apartheid, most notably the African National Congress, as dangerous and pro-communist. Reagan even vetoed a bill to impose sanctions on South Africa, only to be overruled by Democratic Opposition in Congress.

Also, there was Ronald Reagan with his attempts to give Bob Jones University a tax-exempt status despite that university's policy of racial discrimination.

And speaking of Bob Jones University, I would like to point out the fact that Bob Jones University was founded by a Klansman. Yes, Bob Jones was a member of the Klan. He was also a Republican.

Republican sheriff E.E. Addition of Androscoggin County was also a member of the Klan.

And Republican Owen Brewster (former governor of Maine, Former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and former U.S. Senator) was also a member of the Klan.

And Klansman Shaun Winkler run for the office of Bonner County sheriff as a Republican.

And Klansman and White Supremacist David Duke praised Republican Donald Trump, saying that Trump is “the best of the lot.”?

Have you ever heard a Klansman ever praise Hillary Clinton? Or Bernie Sanders? Or Elizabeth Warren? NO!! It’s just Republican Donald Trump who gets the praise!! White Supremacists and Klansmen HATE Democrats!!

Once upon a time, the Republican Party was an honorable organization with scholars and abolitionists. NOW, they’re a dishonorable gang of thugs, money-launderers, racists, misogynists, xenophobes, theocrats, child molesters, white supremacists and sexual predators.

And you ran off to make bombs to send them? You had to go off to dinner before getting around to making Pelosi's? Or is it yet to come?

You do realize the Republican party did not exist at the time the Constitution was written, right?

It was formed almost a century later as part of a movement to force the Democrats to stop using slaves.

You do realize that the Republic party of Lincoln included the Free Soil Democrats who were anti-slavery, right?

The Whigs, who would form part of the new Republican party, had both pro-slavery and anti-slavery factions.

If I were you I'd stop watching the history channel and maybe read an actual book.

That was the party of Abraham Lincoln. Today's GOP is the party of Jefferson Davis.

Watch Newt Gingrich blame bomb recipients for bringing it on themselves: ‘They have been very hostile to conservatives’

Speaking with a TMZ street correspondent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R) blamed the recent recipients of mail bombs — which include former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and actor Robert DeNiro — of reaping what they have sown.

Pressed on whether Trump should be ratcheting up his attacks in light of the mail bombs, Gingrich replied, “I don’t think there is a direct connection between Trump and the people (inaudible). Look, the people you are talking about have been people who have been very hostile to conservatives.”

“Very,” he added for emphasis.

Moon Unit Gingrich being civil?
