Unlikely. Crudités in English came with Nouvelle Cuisine in the 1970s.

Crud was around long before then.

Probably described the primordial sludge out of which we crawled.:D

(edited my spelling of the 'p' word. thanks Ogg)

The original meaning of crud was curd - curdled milk - and is late Middle English. In British English its current meaning came from the GIs in England during World War 2 - according to one of my large Oxford Dictionaries.

But primordial sludge was crud.

Interestingly I had to correct a typo; I'd spelt 'crud' as 'curd'.

so..was a 'turd' ever a 'trud' ogg?

crud /krd/ n.
Also (US slang) crut /krt/. [Earlier form of CURD n.]

what about 'trud' then?

In several Slavic languages trud means labour. I believe it's the name of one of the main Russian newspapers. And, growing up in The Cotswolds, I can also recall some people using trud (rather than trod) as the past tense of tread.

See where my mind was. I read the last few posts thinking trud was turd. I guess I have a shitty outlook. :D

"Some say the world will end in fire;
Some say in ice..."
Others, following a more scatological eschatology, expect it to be buried in its own turds.
