The Official Authors' Hangout Winter Holidays 2016 Contest Support Thread

Annony {their nomenclature, not mine} and company seem to be having a troll tea party in my Christmas story. I feel I should be acting as a proper hostess and bringing around the cucumber sandwiches and watercress yummies.

Not sure if it is only at my phone, but I can only read the first ~1/3 of my story when using the Android App.

At the website, it looks just fine...
I've sent a few mails to helpdesk & Submit Bug report, but no reply, nor improvement, so far...

Technical problems like that?

You should send a Private Message (PM) to Manu.

Other methods of communication don't work effectively.

It just might be the app. I'm on android now and i can see the ending through the website.

Mine got a pretty impressive sweep late last week. It was down somewhere in the 3s and jumped up to the 4s. Shed a bunch of votes.

Oh. They must have done a sweep then. Guess I didn't get bombed that hard coz I didn't notice sny change in my ratings at all.

Ok. Sweep going on now. I just dropped by 20 votes. Didnt do a thing for my ratings tho. Too many votes to make a difference I guess. Now that's a nice problem on the one hand. On the other, I ain't gonna win. Oh well, didn't think so anyhow.lol. roll on valentines day comp.

I ignored some very sage advice and I fear I shall live to regret it. I asked for suggestions as to the category and was told scifi/fantasy which was probably the best fit possible, given the subject matter and it was what I originally submitted it under. However, I panicked in the eleventh hour and re-submitted it under "Romance". That is definitely right, as I have been told repeatedly in the comments.

Once the contest is over, I may ask if it can be moved once again.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS......Well done. And also congratulations to all of us who managed to get an entry in before the cutoff date. :cathappy:

First Place - The Snow Maid by Glaze72 :rose::rose::rose:

Second Place - Faith, Hope and Love by JoeDreamer :rose::rose:

Third Place - A Gift from The Bard by ScattySue :rose:

I have to say for myself, I really enjoyed writing my Winter Holidays story ("A Teddy Bear for Christmas" - which came out of this with my second highest rating ever, the most ever votes on one of my stories - almost a 1,000 votes - 1 in 30 readers voted on it - yaaaaaay!!!!!). It was so much fun and I'm only sorry I didn't get my second entry in coz it turned into a novel and its only half done. As for my third story, well, that's still a concept and a name and it can wait until next year now....

Anyhow, it was a lot of fun and congratulations to the winners and to all of us who got a story in once again :rose:

Three 4.9x stories? Absolutely congrats to the winners!

Congratulations to the winners!

Those ratings are great.

I managed two stories just above or below 4.50 and one that nearly reached 3.90.

Good job everyone! On to 2017!

Happy holidays to all you writers of porn, my friends and colleagues, and best wishes for the new year!

Congratulations Glaze72, JoeDreamer, ScattySue, and everyone else who managed to get an entry submitted for this contest. WTG!

Intense Competition

Wow! I hope 4.9x isn't the new minimum standard for winning themed holiday contests! I haven't gotten a chance yet to read the winners and runners-up that went over 15 Lit pages, but that's what the weekend is for.

I don't mind losing to works that I know I could never muster the imagination and talent to have created myself, so special props to the overall winner "The Snow Maid" by Glaze72.

I don't have any other stories in the pipeline that would fit upcoming contests until the Nude Day competition in mid-2017 - and it will probably take me that long to finish it and get it edited.

Good luck to those who plan to enter the upcoming contests and congrats to the Winter Holidays winners.

What is a sweep and how does it work? I noticed in watching my scores that vote totals sometimes would drop and I didn't understand that.

The idea is to keep the voting fair. Anonymous readers can target your story with 1-star votes or mercenary writers could pepper their own stories with 5-star votes. So, the site mods go in and remove votes that don't seem legit, and the scores are recalculated using the new vote count. The metrics for how a vote is deemed legitimate are not public, so all we see is what you're describing: votes disappear and (often, for me at least) scores go up.

Interesting. I've only started submitting stories but for my last one I was tracking votes and after a few good votes my score suddenly plunged to below 4, so I determined somebody must have given me a 1-bomb. Then later my score went up even though the vote total fluctuated.
