I've heard good things about this movie. What is it about?

Saw "Notes on a Scandal" yesterday, and really liked it... if you've ever wanted to see Judi Dench play a lesbian sociopath and Cate Blanchett play a convicted pedophile, this is your movie!

A convicted pedophile and a sociopath? This doesn't sound like my sort of movie.

What did you really like about it?

Is it a darkly comedic film?

The Professional rocked. But that is the title used in it's US release. In the UK it was Leon, and other parts of the world got it as The Cleaner. Jean Reno, as Leon, was great!

As for Silent Hill Dark, brooding, moody. The ending wasn't a WTF if you were paying attention... An "alternate dimension"? *chuckles* That's one way of putting it...

Okay, who saw the American version of The Ring? And please, please, PLEASE, tell me I am not the only person who saw this piece of trash, cliche' filled, sorry excuse of a film and predicted it scene for scene from the opening to the ending credits! ! ! ! I kid you not, I watched it with janey (she's a horror fan and had watched it several times, thought she was giving me a treat *rolls his eyes*), I knew nothing of the original movie or this one, and started telling jane what the next scene would be as each scene wound up... Including the "surprise ending". GAG.

The only thing I think I dislike in a movie more than predictability is insulting the intelligence of the audience and The Ring rates right down at the bottom with Napoleon Dynamite and anything with Pauly Shore in it.

I saw Eragon at the $1.50 theater this afternoon... glad I didn't waste $8.00 for it, but was mildly entertained for the 1:39 playing time. Not epic fantasy like LOTR, and they played with the story details a bit from the novel, but the flavor was spot on for juvenile fantasy. Not a bad flick if you like swords and sorcery tales.

I'm going to have to look [B[The Professional[/] up!

I saw The Ring and didn't like it. It did creep me out. First of all a child was in it, that often does me in. Second, once the whole thing was figured out, the situation didn't resolve or get better, that really bothers me. I did like Ring 2 much better. It made better sense. Oh and I did have trouble sleeping for at least three nights after watching the first one.

I agree with you about Napoleon Dynamite. I was shocked at how bad it was after all the hype.

I haven't read or seen Eragon but it looked a little like a recycled LOTR to me.

Ok you big meany you just spoiled the movie for others, but answer me this when Chris was in the school and his wife was too, where was she at?? She was I think calling out to the kid, but he could somehow hear her across the fabric of reality. Or was it when she entered the town, the evil part of her kid still in kid form pulled her into that different reality?? How is it that the cop didn't know all the people were still living in the church either??

I go with what you say about the ending though, reminds me of that show Tales from the Darkside. I would show a picture of the world and the darkside had all the color leeched out so it was just gray.

Didn't ruin it for me but now I finally know which movie y'all be talking about!

Woot!

I watch a lot of Grays anatomy because of my wife but the last good movie I watched was The Illusionist with Edward Norton.

We almost rented The Ilusionist today. Maybe we will get it next time.

I don't know much about Gray's Anatomy.

Anyone see The Covenant?? Its the movie about a group of boys that are the reincarnated selves of warlocks from the 15th century. Looks interesting.

How many people are going to watch Ghost Rider when it comes out in less then 2 weeks?? I would watch it on Friday but going to hit the movies on Saturday
.

No, I've not seen it yet.

No, I'm not planning on seeing it right away, when it comes out.

Ok Fury does Ghost Rider just not interest you or do you not like who is in the movie?? I am a sucker for comic book based movies, I usually talk to my brother and see if they got the story correct or nearly so.

Last night after some rewiring issues were done I watched 9.5 weeks again. I didn't remember so much sex in it. Best scene in the movie for me was when Elizabeth is looking at the slides and she starts to get hot and bothered. I would assume that she masterbated but that isn't shown so who knows. The next best scene is when Mickey Rouke and her are in the riding store and he is trying out the riding crops and whips?? Then he picks a riding crop and uses it a few times on her skirt covered leg. :D

I haven't seen 9 1/2 Weeks either. See I'm a good and innocent movie girl! :D

I do not get excited about movies often these days. I particularly don't expect movies made from comic books to be worth a damn. I don't read graphic novels so I'm not in love with the concepts. However, the trailer for this movie looks amusing. I'll be happy to see it when it's free. Oh, I'm frugal too!

Serenity, my favorite movie of the last 5 years.
Also the boxed set of Firefly, both are well worth watching.

I've been on a 24 and Lost boxed set kick lately, I've been getting the complete seasons from our library.

Dr. Who seasons one & two are also out in boxed sets.

Casino Royale was probably the best Bond flick since Dr. No, I really enjoyed it.

Yeah... Serenity rocked, though I'm pissed they killed off... wait, no spoilers.

And Casino Royale was SO much better than any of the Bond flics since Connery gave them up. Daniel Craig has the Bond character absolutely nailed.

And I've got season 1 of Torchwood on DVD! ! ! (If I can get my DVD burner working I'll swap ya Dr. Who Season 1 for Torchwood Season 1!)

To put it without ruining anything, it's like a Spanish variant of C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. Though not nearly as light.

I keep hearing Serenity and Firefly are great but when I tried to watch the first ep of Firefly it didn't do anything for me. Maybe I'll try it boxed though. I find these things get better when you don't have to wait a week, hunt them down and so on.

I felt the same way about 24.

Lost was good but now they've teased me too much, I'm getting apathetic. Also I feel they've "jumped the shark."

Dr. Who really didn't do it for me. It's too silly-British for me.

Casino Royale is on my list to see!

Which first ep, if you recall? Because the televised first ep (Train Job, IIRC) is techically like the third episode in the series. Give the boxed set a go, you'll probably like it better.

And which Dr. Who are y'all talking about? The show's been going on since the '50s! The recent Doctor isn't so silly as I'm getting the old ones are.

My favorite boxed TV show has got to be La Femme Nikita. It's what the guys who did 24 did before 24. Don't mistake the for the Luc Besson film of the same name, though that's good too.

It was the first televised episode. I'm not sure what it's title was though.

I tried Dr. Who maybe 20 years back. Some of my gaming buds belong in a local fan club. I'm not sure which Dr. Who it was.

I also ADORE La Femme Nikita!!! :D

I've seen the movie too but the series is the best. It's too dark for some. I really enjoy it, the actors, the writing (up to a certain point) and the production!

Hmm, and what is Torchwood?

Torchwood is a BBC spin-off from the current Dr. Who run. The main character is a fellow by the name of Captain Jack Harkness and he's an American (unusual for BBC productions). He leads a team of investigators who are kind of a combination of Ghostbusters/Men In Black investigating paranormal/supernatural/alien threats to The Crown. The team has 2 gals, 3 guys, and lots of high tech goodies.

The actor who play Harkness is a certified hottie. He's what Tom Cruise WISHES he was (tall and good looking, with electric eyes and a perfect smile). METRO ALERT... If he ain't gay he's for definite bi- ... The Brits are a lot looser with sexuality in their shows now than we are, and in one ep he puts a lip lock on a guy that was smoking! *grins*

Good stuff, well written, excellent production values, nice eye candy, decent special effects.

That sounds interesting. It doesn't sound like a spin off. It sounds better.

My kids dragged me to a vid store the other day. They got Snakes On a Plane which was silly and okay. However those bastards killed a kitty and and a doggie!

They also got Running With Scissors which makes me family look positively sane! Again a poor kitty was killed. Even worse this was based on a real life account of Augusten Burroughs.

The best part of it, other than the dark humor, is that he made it out of there to have a decent life, despite all odds. When people bitch and whine about how they "must" do horrible things because of their fucked up childhoods, it's people like this that make me feel good.

It's an interesting film. I wanted to shake his Mom. When his Dad left I found myself crying. It felt too similar to when mine left.

The film is placed in the seventies. It shows a lot of what I think is going on in the mental heath field by some charlatans still though.

Last weekend I picked up Dudley Moore in 10 at the library. I'd almost forgotten just how hilariously funny it was. Moore was a spectacular physical comedian and to say that Bo Derek was a looker at that point in her life is a distinct understatement. The scenes involving Moore's next-door neighbor the rocker cracked me up, too.

This makes me want to see it again. I agree it was a fun movie.

I always thought Bo wasn't as pretty or luminous as Linda Evans particularly when Linda was Audra on that western show. Now I'm sure she is prettier because poor Linda has not only gotten old, she's had what appears to be some hideous plastic surgery.

We've been watching a great deal of boxed set Angel lately.

The Epic Movie was stupid but somewhat amusing at times.

Saw "Hannibal Rising" this weekend...quite good.

I'm glad to hear it, reviews haven't been great for the movie. I'm glad it's good!

I tried to watch Miami Vice the other night. I might have just been in a bad mood but I couldn't concentrate on the story. Actually it didn't seem to have much story.

They didn't even play the theme song from the TV show which was always the best part of watching it, well that and the handsome black dude who was one of the two leads on it.

The lead white dude in the movie looked like shit. That always pisses me off.

So I ended up just watching the crowd scenes to see if I could spot our hottie Marquis or not. Sadly I could not.

*pouts*

I did watch Mrs. Henderson Presents more avidly. It had a story. Though the story was never as interesting or as naughty as the preview suggested it would be.

Pan's Labyrinth

This is certain to become a classic. A very dark movie. This is the story of a young girl (10 yo) Ofelia who travels into a remote region of Spain with her pregnant and ill mother to join her step-father, Captain Vidal. It is 1944 and the closing days of the Spanish Civil War.

Pan's Labyrinth is a fairy tale Ofelia tells herself in order to survive and attempt to make some sense of her world--a world rather like the modern and beautiful downtown Baghdad!

This is a "mythos" in the Greek sense of the word--i.e. "the story that explains." The early church didn't care for the explanations offered by the Greek "mythos," and redefine the word to mean "story that is generally believed but is not true."

Written and directed by the Mexican genius Guillermo del Toro, in Spanish with subtitles. Rated "R" for violence.

This is a very dark and violent film about a very dark time in history.

And NOW I'm off the see THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND

Opening day I went and saw Ghost Rider. I thought the movie was ok as comic book movies go. I did get to read the novelization before and noticed that the movie missed one part I wanted to see. But over all I think its worth 114 mins of my life.

March 9, 300 is coming out and I wants to see that so much. The trailer looks really good.

That's good to hear about Ghost Rider. I am not aware of the other movie.

I watched Crank tonight. I'd like to kill the people who decided to use that stylized camera shit. The two sex scenes made the movie worth it for me. I never would have thought I'd say that.
