Looking for a story about a homeless girl

I'm wondering if anyone happens to remember a story about a man who finds a homeless girl outside his apartment and he takes her in, gets her all cleaned up and sort of nurses her back to health. I remember reading it several years ago, and I've been searching all over for it but for the life of me I can't find it again.
