THREADMASTERS STATEMENT OF INTENT

ScouriesWorld has started this thread for the following reasons:

Number One, is to bring to the attention of all LITEROTICANS information on the LITEROTICA/ A.I.R. Themed Contests. We believe the themed contest scene will be enhanced by having an independent voice that is not beholden to the entrenched insiders.

The Second reason is to provoke thoughtful discussion of both the strengths and weaknesses of the present contest system. Discussions that hopefully will lead directly to concrete proposals for change.

Thirdly we hope the thread will reach the great LITEROTICA authors who’ve abandoned the themed contests due to the dirty tricks that have been perpetuated against them by less talented AHland lackeys and encourage them to rejoin the fray. We need the “most favorited” authors if these contests are ever going to regain the status they once held.

Fourth is to provoke FEEDBACK on these stories, both on this thread and also directly to the authors themselves via VOTES, E-MAILS and PUBLIC COMMENTS. We’ll always welcome reader story feedback on this thread – both good and bad. It’s who we are…

Finally we at ScouriesWorld would simply like to say “welcome” to all the LITEROTICANS (both readers and authors) who’ve felt estranged from the oggman/aher view of themed contests.

We believe these contests should be open, fair, and transparent. That all authors should have an equal chance to win. That certain categories and authors shouldn’t be given an unfair advantage.

That readers should choose the winners, not palace insiders.

2011 Winter Holiday Contest Support Thread

You can begin submitting on (or a little before): November 10
The last day to submit is: December 7 at 11:59EST
Winners will be announced on: December 14

Story must have a Winter Holidays theme (Thanksgiving, Xmas, Kwanzaa, New Years etc.– yes we know the theme is far too broad – it’ll be one of the things this thread will address). We will not be accepting Alien Holidays – only human holiday stories will be accepted!

Please see Queen LAUREL’S thread for the full LITEROTICA rules and see the A.I.R Thread for their rules. There are significant differences in the rules between the two contests but most stories can qualify if an author takes care.

Good luck everyone!

Here’s a question for our readers: Which LITEROTICA authors would you like to see participating?

My three top picks for this Winter Holiday Contest would be three authors who haven’t participated this year. They are:

BOSTONFICTIOWRITER :D (from his grave)
sarahhh :rose: (from her hospital bed) and
rgjohn

Wouldn’t these geniuses participation be great news for all of us?

TOPIC for DISCUSSION #1

Should Non-Erotic and/or Non Human stories be allowed into themed contests? Should an erotic story site continue to allow aliens and non-eroticans to dominate the winners list even though they are nowhere near as popular as stories from other categories?

alien.jpg

erotic?

What do you think?

Once again, the best way to show this thread for the mean-spirited, exclusionary, self-serving fraud it is would be to keep the real contest threads active with reminders, ideas, answers, and support.

So long as the genuine support threads are kept active, his constant bumping of this thread ( to the tune of more than 50% of the total posts in his last attempt ) has limited ability to misinform and confuse newcomers, and is invisible to the bulk of the forum who have him on ignore, thus making it irrelevant.

One spam clone has already been banned, and this one has already been moderated by moving this thread from Story Feedback to here. Give him the rope to hang himself as he desperately attempts to generate relevance.

Nice thread.

I personally feel that all contests should be for erotic stories unless otherwise noted.

I mean, what the heck, you have an erotic story website and the winners of contest are 'non-erotic' and 'non-human'.

Those genre's only have a small pool of readers, so all it takes is 26 votes for them to win a contest, and you've got the incest genre which can get 1,000+ votes, all sorts of comments and favs, and nothing...

On a quick check from the tracks, the lowest placing vote total in the last couple of years is 40, and the average is 213.

Beyond my tracks, my recollection is that no Non-Erotic or NonHuman category stories have placed in quite some time. The closest you can get are some of the Sci-Fi&Fantasy stories and one essay. Incest has placed in the same time period.

Believing anything scouries says without looking into what actually happened is a receipe for unnecessary angst.

Actual breakdown of winning stories, by category, ignoring the Free Speech and How-To contests restricted to specific categories:

Where and how did this holiday ritual arise?

TOPIC for DISCUSSION #2

Should Authors be allowed to enter more than one story in a contest? For some years certain authors have flooded the various themed contests with 5, 10, 15 even 20 stories in a single contest (the latest proponents of quantity over quality were little ralphie and the pilot in the Halloween contest).

Many readers have complained to us at SW that this story dumping has significantly reduced their interest in these contests and asked us to try to limit submissions to one story per author.

“Why can’t they just enter their best story anyway?” they ask. “What makes the so special?”

Not counting the “unknowns” darkboy has 134 stories listed and categorized (and almost all the removed from the site ones were in the less popular categories)..

Unfortunately he didn’t post the percentage of winners each category produced nor did he give us comparative figures for the percentage of stories in each category that won. I wonder why not?

Certainly the famed owlwhisperer did in his groundbreaking studies.

But even a cursory glance at darkboy’s flawed figures prove my thesis and disprove his.

Romance has produced 25% of the 134 winners that we know the category of. Even though Romance stories make up less than 5% of the stories on the site. In other words romance has won 5 times the number of times we’d expect it to!

SciFi/NonHuman won over 14% of the awards even though they make up only 5% of the submissions (and a much lower number of completed stories since so many of these categories stories have chapter after chapter). 300% of what we’d expect!

And what about the most popular categories? Incest, Group, Loving Wives, and Non Consent have won 9 prizes out of 134 (less than 7%) even though more than 30% of the submissions are made in these categories.

Even our homosexual friends have done better - they've won thirteen!

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who’s getting fucked under the present system does it?

November 10th is fast approaching!!!!

(why the heck are they starting this contest so soon? i would have thought a nov 25 til dec 25th would have been better dates)

Anyway today is a scourian writing day and I popped open the nipples thread for inspiration and found this pic from susan. This girl has definately put me in the mood. A Christmas tit fuck?

Thank you very much for the great pic!

The Lit story approvers need a holiday vacation like everyone else. :)

I just finished Book 2 of “Jimmy T’S Family” today (just a little more editing and it’ll be off to the publisher) so I’ll now be able to turn my attention to my Winter Holliday Contest story.

To be set on Miami Beach I believe that it promises to be a groundbreaking story for the LITEROTICA reader. That will raise the bar for erotic writers!

Populated by Latinas and Latinos, a Frenchwoman and an Indian academic, homosexuals and heterosexuals, Northerners and Southerners, cocks and cunts, love and lust… this story has it all!

Cumming soon to both LITEROTICA and A.I.R.

It's not as simple as you make it sound. Romance can be expected to produce as lot of winners for a couple of reasons. For one thing, it's a natural for Valentine's Day, and for another we can write nice sweet stories in the category.

Even though I mostly write stroke stories, when I write a romance, I have a plot and character development and the other things that make it literature rather than just smut. I think most people can say the same thing. Romances are more likely to be well-crafted stories, more deserving of winning than 4,000 words about a father and daughter getting it on or some guy fucking his girl friend in her ass.

Of course, Gay Male and Lesbian stories can be romances too.

EH and Science Fiction and Non-Human have a similar advantage during Halloween, and EV has it for Nude Day Contests.

Even if you accept scouries argument about the number of stories, he's comparing stories on the whole website against the contests.

Winter 2010 11.4% of stories entered are incest.
Earth Day 2011 10.9% of stories entered are incest.
Halloween 2011 9.6% of stories entered are incest.
Summer 2011 24.1% of stories entered are incest.

An incest story placed in Summer 2011.

If you start using the logic of "more stories entered in a category should equal more wins", and you look at the percentage of stories entered, it actually does work out that way somewhat, even though it's a flawed and ridiculous premise.

Earth Day 2011 demonstrates a perfect example of this, with the three categories having the most stories submitted ( Sci-Fi&Fantasy, Romance, and Erotic Couplings ) taking the top 3 spots.

In Summer Lovin' 2011, only one high percentage category ( Erotic Couplings ) had more entries than one of the winning categories ( Sci-Fi is the outlier ) with Romance having an equal number to one of the winning categories ( Group Sex )

If he actually wanted to use this premise, he should be screaming bloody murder about Erotic Horror being cheated in the Halloween contest, since 24% of the stories entered were in that category, and it didn't place.

As usual, scouries is comparing apples to plastic oranges in order to claim that he's being "cheated", and even then, having to use troll logic to create the conclusion he wants.

LITEROTICA’S LIFETIME ACHIEVMENT AWARD

For our newer members I thought I'd take a second and bring them up tpo date on an award that is presented at the end of each and every themed contest.

The Board of Directors of the ASSOCIATION of INDEPENDENT READERS (A.I.R.) decided some time ago that it would be appropriate to honor one of the giants of LITEROTICA fiction at the end of each of the Special Themed A.I.R. Contests.

They decided to call this new prize, one they believe will soon become emblematic of erotic fiction excellence and the most respected author’s award in the genre, the MANU. This name of course honors the first PRINCE of erotic fiction, a man who’s become a giant in the field of erotic publishing.

the :D MANU :D award

These prizes will be awarded based on the author’s complete body of work. And we welcome nominations from all readers. If you have any questions about this award please contact me.

So far the followong authors have been honored.

Oh boxy you disappoint me! Gaby told me that you weren’t that bad for a Texan but after the above…

Romance category stories are more likely to be well crafted stories? Are you nuts? In fact the “romance” genre in the general fiction world is perhaps the most denigrated field of writing.

The reality is that certain categories on LITEROTICA produce higher scores than other categories. owlwhisper proved it conclusively years ago in his epic groundbreaking study. Which means that stories in these categories have a huge advantage when up against stories from lower scoring categories.

You know this. I know this. darkboy and ace knows this.

And it explains why the AHland insiders flood our themed contests with stories from these categories. They know they have to write this romantic slop or non-human idiocies if they’re to have a chance to win. db’s arguments above are simply a smokescreen. The truth is that the great and ‘favorite’ authors of LITEROTICA have given up on the cheating and fixed results of the LIT themed contests. It’s why they’ve migrated in such large numbers to A.I.R.

queens contest stormtroopers - romance, aliens or else...

My wonderful boss, james r scouries, helped A.I.R. get their themed contest off the ground for this exact reason. He wanted the great authors back writing contest entries. And he’d like them in both contests. But that’s up to LITEROTICA and the Royal Family, it’s up to them to implement reform, reform that will bring back credibility to their tarnished product.

The db’s of our world can spread confusion and lies all they want – but they’ll never be able to explain why the most popular stories in the contests (those with the most views, votes and comments) never win ‘readers choice’ awards.

First, I am not a Texan. Many years ago, I spent five of the worst months of my life in Texas and I have never been back and I hope to continue not going back.

Second, I know there is a lot of crap around that passes for romance, but at least they tend to be real stories with plots, etc. What I and many others write is mostly stroke, with no plot and no character development and minimal dialogue. I don't deny that's what I write, because it's what I like to write, and I know a lot of people like to read it. However, this kind of thing does not win contests. The Romance stories that do win contests are well crafted tales that are erotic literature rather than smut. To win the Valentine's Day contest, to cite the most obvious, a story almost has to be a Romance, and they contend in other contests too. I expect to write a Romance story in the Winter Holiday Contest.

In general, Romance novels do get denigrated, as do soap operas and Doris Day movies. Even so, they are very popular with the public. I don't know of any Romance stories here that get denigrated.

Who has migrated to your bogus contests? I haven't, and I don't know of anybody else who has.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the winnders of Readers' Choice awards are not eligible to be also entered in themed contests.

As to the A.I.R. Contests: You clearly haven’t read the rules my friend. I suggest you go to the Official A.I.R. Contest thread and familiarize yourself with these rules.

I’m sure the Association would be delighted to have someone of your stature listed among its winners.

But you’ve got to drop this Pauletta transsexual babe. The a.i.r. readers just don't like her!

I have never seen that place.

Pauletta is not a TS. He is a gay man who is a drag queen, and the first story about him was put first in the TS & CD category until I objected. I have written 12 stories about a TS named Angel Jones, and most of them rate an H.

What our A.I.R. readers object to is that you continually recycle the same character contest after contest. Which is a clear breach of their rules.

Originality is what’s required boxy. And you can do it!
