What the ... ?

Three years ago, I wrote this essay on how to write better porn stories. The essay has enjoyed its share of popularity (ironically getting higher scores than any of my actual stories, proving, I guess, "those who can't, teach.") Every month or two, another person favorites it.

But over the last few weeks, it has suddenly been getting favorited by another person every couple of days. I don't understand why this 3-year-old essay is suddenly getting so much love. Not complaining, mind you. Just curious. Any theories?

Is anyone else getting a sudden burst of favorites?

It's positioned near the top of the Hall of Fame for the category. Has it always been there, or is that something new?

I was going to note it's on the Hall of Fame list for "How To" as well--and with a Green E.

The green E has been there forever.

Yes, but the category hub pages haven't been here forever. And your essay may only recently have made the Hall of Fame list in the Reviews and Essays category hub page. My reference to the Green E was that, if the essay recently made that list, it would make the essay stand out to someone looking at the list for something to read.

Ah! Good point.

I read it several weeks ago because it was on the hall of fame list and the it had the green E. I don't think I added it to my favorite list. It provides some very good advice, especially for new writers.

I don't know, either. I read it and fought the impulse to score it 3 starz. The best porn writers routinely violate your canons.

The top list will always get a story more attention and the E is a visual standout to catch more eyes.

You just got another fav because now your thread made me curious and I just bookmarked it for later:D

And now you have at least one more favorite-mark. Just read it, and it's really good advice!

I knew a girl like that in high school. For years she was a wallflower, sitting quietly by herself, completely unnoticed by everyone. And then suddenly, in the summer between 9th and 10 grades, she blossomed. She went from no dates to getting asked out by everyone--especially juniors and seniors. She didn't waste time with sophomores. She was elected to the homecoming court, she had multiple invites to the prom. She was easily one of the most popular girls in school.

The following year she got pregnant and ended up dropping out of school.

The moral of the story is be careful of sudden spikes in popularity. They don't always turn out well.

The moral is also the shallowness of people who think she was a totally different person because her looks improved.
