Seven mile road is crooked as a snakes ass,
up hill and down from town,
fifteen curves to home,
few slight, all worrisome,
late at night in the rain,
wipers going 90,
car 45

They danced in the April rain,
two, free of winter, embracing green and growth,
confident in their tomorrows, yet,
never looking past the moment.

hearts waltzing in the rain
blues/greys over greens
white dog dancing with them
(their combined gait less waltz -
more polka'd tango)
and the trees mark their movements
dip budded branches to the breeze
and the world turns
the world turns....

04/25/18 - One Year On...

we've danced once around the sun, my love
stepped on eachother's toes from time to time
kissed away bruises and tears
laughed with more than our mouths
discovered our changing tempos in the moon's bright gaze
held stars in our palms, plans in our hearts, dreams in our eyes
found rough waters can run smooth
in the route of least erosion
and mud on our boots isn't necessarily a bad thing
when the fruits of the growing season sit fresh on our table

where the field lies fallow
metaphors grow
words form and fall
and a warm bed keep things from freezing solid

the brush of your hand on my back
my hot feet on your cold ones
the hum of the fan in summer's swelter
your hand on the wheel along the fog-bound lane
me cleaning your glasses
biscuits and bacon...
poetry enough for us with no artifice
the highest plane content with simple
uncomplicated
love

happy anniversary, Harry

Ahem,
Oh infrared face, I see,
your hat filled with wild green onions,
carried oh so purposely toward the kitchen,
fifty paces 'cross the sun flayed field
might one suggest instead you place it on your head;
fuck the soup.

The bonfire lit 'fore last light,
hopeful rockets soar upward,
crash to earth, a host of others follow,
fall, party in the embers

Across the grain headed pasture,
there at the loss of the light,
fireflies dance lust in the heat of the night.

sweat drips from his hair
soaks his bright t-shirt
has his spectacles sliding from his nose
relentless sun sweetens red jewels in the dirt
bees and wasps drone, airborne,
and the white beast lies deep in shaded greens

with brown fingers
his body hums its song of life
embraces the ache of living

Zen Garden

Standing in the shadows,
waiting for a cloud,
to shield the land and me,
writing poetry in the soil.

Facing East then West,
forking steadily,
sweating winter away,
enduring Summers return
on a bright May day,
retreating to the shade.

A breeze holds cold on sodden nape,
delicious reward while viewing labor spent,
there, beyond the trees,
repeat.

Pharos's chickens ride the thermal
skins salt tears water the earth,
clouds return back to work,
garden kata, thrust, bend, turn, recover,
days pass, add the peat, drip,

Clouds defeat 'Ol Sol
humidity factor off the wall,
awake to rain

Sodden nails of broken earth,
last ragged green bits clinging,
waiting for a manicure,
tender now where it was sore, drip.

when is a ku
not a ku? when she's
spun loose, needs grounding

send a balloon high enough
into the storm clouds
lightning

just notions
floating loose
grab their strings

thankyou, science
for fans and air con;
nature, for cool breeze and shade

there's a sinkhole in the yard
not so big around
but deep
so deep
its rocky bottom ready to break bones

it can be filled
with diligence and will
the sweat worth the effort

but now
i'm unsure of green expanses
not knowing where erosion
has eaten beneath the surface
a stripping of soil
dissolution of rock that binds this world together
and where it's safe to step
where once i danced, eyes fixed on the sky

the road maps its own cardiogram
pulses and stutters
peaks and troughs
a permanent record - tar on blacktop -
rolling away beneath our wheels

without any medical degrees
one can only make assumptions
about the highway's arterial health
but speculating on a whim
passes time, engenders thought
