Green-tinted black spot near the Linwood location

Heavily concentrated tint of bright orange near Liberty.

There was a clear border of smudgey black, surrounding the grey cresent.
Very bright green was located inside the concave part of the cresent, in
opposition to some very bright orange yellow. They used blood red
for most of the surrounding storm activity.

I am curious, as to what the deep purple colour represented.

Times-Picayune Layoffs Deepen Divide Between
News Industry Haves And Have Nots

May 06, 2019

The entire staff of The New Orleans Times-Picayune was laid off
after the paper and its website were sold. Some staffers may be
rehired by the new owners, but it's the latest sign of a news industry

NOLA’s Oldest Paper Times-Picayune Sold to Rival Outlet, Fires Staff

May 07, 2019

In media news, New Orleans’s oldest newspaper, The Times-Picayune, has been sold to The Advocate, a rival publication. The paper was sold by parent company Advance Local Media to John and Dathel Georges, millionaire business owners who bought The Advocate in 2013. John Georges has previously made unsuccessful runs for governor, as well as mayor of New Orleans. The Times-Picayune has been in operation since 1837. It has received several Pulitzer Prizes, including for its reporting on Hurricane Katrina. All of the paper’s staff is reportedly being fired, and the publication will be merged with The Advocate.

May 8, 2019

The paper “whittled itself away limb by limb,” said Bruce Nolan, who worked at the Times-Picayune for 41 years before being laid off in 2012 and who helped in the Katrina coverage that would earn the paper two Pulitzer Prizes in 2006.

The layoffs, Nolan told me, amounted to “a bloody self-lobotomy,” because of the loss of institutional memory and of the staff’s deep contacts in its quirky, world-renowned, bacchanalian city.

New Orleans Advocate owners John and Dathel Georges have purchased The Times-Picayune and its nola.com website from Advance Local, which is owned by Advance Local Media, LLC.

The Georges purchased Capital City Press, The Advocate’s parent, in 2013 and invested heavily in people and facilities, including renovating a dilapidated historic building at 840 St. Charles Ave. to serve as The New Orleans Advocate’s headquarters.

In the Central U.S., officials in seven states issued tornado warnings on Wednesday, making it the 14th straight day of severe weather that’s shattered previous records for the month of May. In just the last week alone, tornadoes have been linked to at least seven deaths and scores of injuries. Over the past 30 days, meteorologists have logged more than 500 tornadoes across the U.S.—a record total that’s consistent with models predicting more extreme weather due to climate change.

During his visit to Ottawa on Thursday, Mike "greedy and craven" Pence gave
no indication to Prime Minister Trudeau that (FC #1 American Orange Goon )
was to threaten Mexico with new tariffs.

Trump announced his latest punishing and
escalating tariff plan in a tweet Thursday night.

It was not signalled to the Canadian government during
a high-level visit to Ottawa hours earlier by Trump’s
vice-president Mike Pence, although Pence did speak
at length about Trump’s concerns regarding the southern
U.S. border, said a senior Canadian official, speaking
on a background-only basis.

By using tariffs to score political points on border security
with the element of his voter base most opposed to illegal
immigration, Trump jeopardizes a real legislative win and
the economic growth that continues to prop up his popular
approval.

I had entertained the idea that FC #1 Goon had said it to
entertain his base, at a weekend hate rally. But, it seems that
the rally in Florida is tentative, and scheduled for later in the
month. The internet meme as based on an earlier rally, and an
earlier rushing off the stage in a panic.

"Now, after two years spent unraveling the policies of his predecessors, Mr. Trump and his political appointees are launching a new assault.

"In the next few months, the White House will complete the rollback of the most significant federal effort to curb greenhouse-gas emissions, initiated during the Obama administration. It’s LGBT pride month, but three guys in Boston want a permit for a ‘Straight Pride’ parade

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md...-pride-parade/

"Alternative Republicans" are twerps that exploit cities for attention, by trolling.

Boston expended resources and money for their first careless, less-than-serious,
and ill-prepared stunt. They were coddled, spoiled, and protected by the authorities.
The twerps were also severely limited. They were stuck in the middle of a field,
far away from the huge crowd. They could not provoke a reaction, and they did not
bother to invest their time or efforts into bringing sound equipment. The twerps
whined to the city, but the leaders let them know that they would give them their
playground, as was their legal right. But, they were not required to bring them toys
to play with.

The twerps wanted to start some shit in Boston, but the city's leaders, and the
Boston police had found unique ways to handle twerps.

Boston is a city of universities and colleges.

The last time the police took the traditional macho role in confronting an unruly crowd
was 2004. Everything changed. A girl died.

The city of Boston has Police Commissioner William B. Evans to thank,

Hoping that Police Commish Bill Evans has convinced the police dept.
that his methods and ideas were the best for Boston.

"We hounded him to death"

Alan Turing OBE FRS died 65 years ago on June 7, 1954.
He may not be a household name, but he was a pioneering
mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst,
philosopher and theoretical biologist. He played pivotal
roles in the development of theoretical computer science
and artificial intelligence.

Turing played a critical role in cracking intercepted German
coded messages during WWII, which enabled the Allies to
defeat the Nazis in many crucial engagements, including the
Battle of the Atlantic. It has been estimated that this work
(by Turing and his colleagues) shortened the war in Europe
by more than two years and saved over 14 million lives.

Despite these monumental accomplishments, he was never
fully recognized in his home country during his lifetime,
due to his homosexuality, which was then a crime in the UK.

Epilogue

Hats off to Alan Turing and we are truly sorry for calling
ourselves civilized when we commit such heinous crimes
against those who serve humanity far beyond the call of duty.
We have made some progress on the LGBTQ front but we are
still far from having the right to call ourselves civilized.

A group claims it’s planning a ‘Straight Pride Parade’ through Boston — but it’s not a done deal.

A small group of organizers say they’re gearing up to host what they’ve dubbed the “Straight Pride Parade” through Boston this summer, a claim that has set off a visceral reaction nationwide and drawn criticism on social media from the likes of Chris Evans and many others as Pride Month gets underway

But as reports made the rounds on social media Tuesday, landing the “Straight Pride Parade” among the top trends on Twitter, the city clarified that the proposal isn’t exactly set in stone.

While the group has filed a permit application to put together the August parade, the needed permits for such an event have not yet been secured, officials said.

The New York Times political cartoon ban is a sinister
and dangerous over-reaction

- Martin Rowson

In turning a satirical mirror on the news, we are used to
facing attack, but this was a pompous and hypocritical
decision

12 Jun 2019

April, it seems, really is the cruellest month for the
New York Times. On 25 April, its international edition
(formerly the International Herald Tribune) ran a cartoon
by the Portuguese cartoonist António Moreira Antunes,
previously published in the Lisbon paper Expresso and
depicting Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu as
a guide dog leading a blind Donald Trump. In the way
of cartoons, the Netanyahu dog had a blue Star of David
(presumably meant to signify the Israeli flag) dangling
from his collar, while Trump wore a yarmulke.

There was an instant outcry condemning the cartoon’s
antisemitic imagery, including in articles and editorials
in the New York Times itself. As a result, the paper has
decided it will no longer publish any political cartoons
in the international edition

(the NYT domestic paper dropped cartoons several years ago)

and is terminating its contracts with in-house cartoonists
Heng and the multi-award winning Patrick Chappatte.

As we all know, (cartoons) they consequently have the
power to shock and offend. That, largely, is what they’re
there for, as a kind of dark, sympathetic magic masquerading
as a joke.

That’s also why the Turkish cartoonist Musa Kart is in jail,
why the Malaysian cartoonist Zunar was facing 43 years
imprisonment for sedition until a change of government
last year; why five cartoonists were murdered in the offices
of Charlie Hebdo in January 2015; why dozens of British
cartoonists – including William Heath Robinson – were on
the Gestapo death list.

(Musa) Kart said at his trial, cartoonists are like canaries
in the coal mine – when they come for us, you know the
politics is getting toxic.

Katada said the crew members who were aboard the Kokuka Courageous at the time of the attack believe the vessel was damaged by "something [that] flew towards them."

"That created the hole, is the report I've received," Katada said. "It seems there was a high chance they were attacked by a flying object. The impact was well above the water. I don't think it was a torpedo."

Katada did not suggest a possible culprit, and the Japanese government is reportedly "gathering information" on the attacks before it reaches a conclusion.

Iran denied any responsibility for the tanker explosions, which occurred as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an effort to negotiate a reduction of tensions between the U.S. and Iran.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2...-attack-owner-japanese-oil-tanker-says-flying

Yutaka Katada, president of the Kokuka Sangyo shipping firm that owns one of the targeted tankers, told reporters Friday in Tokyo: “The crew are saying it was hit with a flying object. They say something came flying toward them, then there was an explosion, then there was a hole in the vessel. Then some crew witnessed a second shot.”

Yutaka Katada, the owner of one of the stricken fuel tankers crippled in explosions in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, says the U.S. is wrong about the way the attack was carried out. Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo on Friday, he contradicted Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the U.S. Navy, which released a video that purports to show an Iranian patrol boat removing a limpet mine from the port side of the Kokuka Courageous. Katada said his ship was attacked on the starboard side by a flying object, not by a mine. “It seems that something flew towards them. That created the hole, is the report I’ve received,” Katada said, according to the Financial Times. “It seems there was a high chance they were attacked by a flying object. The impact was well above the water. I don’t think it was a torpedo.” The Japanese ship owner did not say who might be responsible for the attack. Iran has vehemently denied it was involved.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/japanese-oil-tanker-owner-says-us-is-wrong-about-gulf-attack

He said he did not believe that the tanker was struck “because it was Japanese,” as that would have been difficult for an attacker to determine.

The Courageous was targeted as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran.

“When the shell hit, it was above the water surface by quite a lot,” Katada said. “Because of that, there is no doubt that it wasn’t a torpedo.”

Why is the U.S.A is picking a fight with Iran ?

The Iranian president is correct-

The Trump White House is suffering and is mentaly incapcitated.
Everyone has their heads up Trump's arse, including Trump himself.

4 Dec 2018

When Bush became president in 1989, his administration blithely
ignored Saddam’s military buildup and human rights violations
and proceeded to send funding, intelligence and hi-tech exports,
some of which could potentially be used in Iraq’s nuclear weapons
program. All of which left Saddam emboldened – and that paved
the way for the Gulf war of 1991.

In August, Vice-President Bush was scheduled to visit the Middle East
to “advance the peace process”, as the New York Times reported.

Bush’s true objectives were exactly the opposite of his stated goals.
He was there to escalate the war between Iran and Iraq. Specifically,
he had been tasked with delivering strategic military intelligence to
Saddam Hussein, so that Iraq would intensify its bombing inside Iran.
After a series of brutal air attacks, Bush and Casey reasoned, Iran
would be forced to turn to the US for missiles and other weapons of
air defense.

And they were right. Forty-eight hours after Bush executed his mission,
Iraqis launched hundreds of strikes targeting oil facilities deep into Iran.
Within a few weeks, Iran was back at the negotiating table. But that wasn’t
the end of it. Every time hostages were released, new ones were seized.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...a-donald-trump

1986, President Ronald Reagan went on national television to explain —
and, in part, defend — the secret sale of arms to Iran despite a U.S. arms
embargo. White House officials hoped the arms transfers through Israel
would help secure the release of seven U.S. hostages being held in Lebanon.
They also used the proceeds of the sale to funnel weapons to Nicaraguan
insurgents, known as the Contras, whom Reagan supported — despite a
congressional ban on such transfers.

Reagan addressed the nation 10 days after the arms-for-hostages deal
was revealed in a Lebanese magazine.

under FBI supervision to a secret place in Texas and then to
Washington, The Times reported Sunday.

That same afternoon, the first of 11 chartered planes began to pick
up more than 140 Saudis scattered throughout the US. Saudi Arabia
and the president's defenders have mounted a massive PR campaign t
o minimise the damage of the Saudi evacuation. But the facts in the 9/11
commission report remain unchanged. The Saudi evacuation flights
were not the fantasies of conspiratorialists. They actually took place.
The departures were approved by the White House and the vast majority
of Saudi passengers were not interviewed by the FBI.

Phase one of US Middle East peace plan greeted with scepticism

25 Jun 2019

No Israelis or Palestinians present for launch of plan
that shreds decades of diplomacy

A conference hall of regional officials – with no Israelis or
Palestinians present – was the first to hear details of the US-
brokered deal, an economic blueprint that shreds decades of
diplomacy and which even its mooted financial backers seemed
reluctant to embrace.

The centrepiece appears to be a call for donors to contribute $50bn
to kickstart the Palestinian economy and win the buy-in of
neighbouring Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon, which would
eventually open direct trade links with the West Bank and Gaza.

There has been no sign of a political dimension to the proposal,
hailed as the brainchild of Donald Trump’s son-in-law and adviser
Jared Kushner. Critics across the region suggested the US was
replacing the long-agreed “land for peace” formula with a blunt
new “money for peace” that attempted to buy off the Palestinian
cause.

On Wednesday, an eclectic roster of speakers are to address the
meeting, including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, former
British prime minister Tony Blair and Gianni Infantino, president
of the FIFA soccer organization. The only scheduled Israeli or
Palestinian speaker, Ashraf Jabari, a businessman from the West
Bank city of Hebron, will participate in a session on developing
local businesses, according to the program.

Polls showed that the divided Palestinian public is united in
its opposition to the White House’s peacemaking efforts,
with around 80 per cent supporting their leaders’ decision
to reject Mr Kushner’s plan without even seeing it.

Both Hamas and Fatah, the two rival Palestinian factions
who control different halves of the Palestinian territories,
have rejected the Kushner plan.

Palestinians were sceptical of Mr Trump since before he took
office but their views have darkened since he moved the US
embassy to Jerusalem and slashed aid to Palestinian hospitals
and schools.

To The Editor:

The rather curious decision by The New York Times to ban
all editorial cartoons based on their own lack of editorial
judgment seems, well, cartoonish. As the recipient of the
2018 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning, one would
think that the Times would be a vital force in protecting
this lovely art form. Instead it’s destroying editorial
cartooning itself.

This is a cartoon I don’t get.

And no, I am not canceling long-held my print and digital
subscription to the Times, either. I think they are as critical
to journalism as editorial cartooning is. I wish the Times
felt the same way.
