30 Poems in 30 Days (Redux)

2-20

It is that time of year
The furnace is lit
We all feel it's heat
Young, old, men, women
Creatures great and small
Invigorating and lifegiving
And yet a Texan would know
Such blessings
The Sun brings
Are also deadly
The intensity,
Breathless

Skamania mania
Beckons me to scale
The beacon top
Vista gold and green
Fringe of charred trees
Dull grey in the late light
Twin sentinel rooster crows
Summer moon sliver
Over liquid silver and gold
Wending it's way west
Towards a creamsicle sky
Lean in to the path
Of adventurers and mystics
Taste the night air
Road weary tapping out
A fine frenzy bewitches
Wrapping me up
At skookum chuck

Breakfast sweets
Raspberry jam smeared on scones
Butter melting into waffle pockets
Toasted Raisin cinnamon bagels
Softens cream cheese
Lemon poppyseed cake
Drizzled with vanilla icing

Afternoon delight of
Entenman’s chocolate chip cookies
Mint chip icecream

Dinner and dessert
Apple strudel pie
Slice of a mud slide
Creamy crème brule
Tapioca rice pudding
Crispy ginger snaps
Short bread wedges
and
German chocolate cake
Coffee and cream

Sculling across the lake
The songs of morning in the air
Still waters slightly disturbed
And the well crafted skiff
Takes us to our destination
A tiny island with a few trees
Long grasses and wildflowers
She smiles in the cool breeze
A departing fish warps the water
And her decolletage draws my gaze
The promise of touches and kisses
Twining arms and legs in the sunrise
On a red plaid blanket across the ground
A light airy tune from the radio
Bread and fruit in the basket
Breathing deeply of her scent
Our lips joined in an eternal kiss

Magic number seven
Or is it number eleven
Some will say it's eight
Bah! Eight's not so great
Is it is it four?
Keep going, of course there's more
Is it number nine, number nine
None of that, let's go with mine
I like the number three
Yours is five, I see
Not six or sixty six
Who said one? Is that Rick's?
Ten! Here I come!
Please, please be done
Maybe its two, yes, that'll do
For me and you

Chilled honeydew sweet drops of green goodness
Refreshes my embattled spirit
Weary from providing service and care
Needles shake as I count rows
Told to wait...and wait
Badass car impounded late
Alpine glow over tahoma
Roasted roots resolve drama

may/june 3:23

Honky tonk next to the Conoco
I'll be in the bar nursing amber courage
Wreathed by smoke, almost loco
Dulcet dark twang croons
Of love gone bad, tucked in storage

Turn me round the dance floor
Red boots shimmy in sawdust,
Make me smile and beg for more
Silvery light above a neon sign
At end of night, this cowboy's mine.

Enjoying the day
With my first world problems
Traffic jams
Cracked cell phone screen
The landscaper didn't show
My 'script isn't ready

Those terrible annoyances
My shoestring broke
The bottled water is hot from the car
I got a flat tire
My video game crashed
The signal on the tv is choppy

How does anyone survive it
My credit card didn't work
The water heater died
The G-store is out of pomegranate juice
Chipped a nail, again
Out of toilet paper

Really though
It is a good day
Smile with me
And be grateful

may/june 3:25

Breeze off the water cools the hot afternoon sun
Microdistillery with a view, gin botanicals refresh
Fuscia flowers cascade in houseboat baskets
Light a candle as the sun sets
Smiles illuminated in the glow
Unpin my hair luv and hold me tight

Day 1

Water has a way
Of finding cracks,
Chinks in its captor
And squeezing out,
Through,
Eroding the area
And making escape
Easier with time.

2-26

There was a time when
I was a terror on the road
With my battered smoking Ford

There was a time when
I was roaring drunk
At the loudest of parties

There was a time when
I went to crazy rock concerts
And lived deep in the chaos

I stole, swore, trespassed
Went to jail
Chased women, fought men

Nowadays I work
Support many people
Care about stuff

I write poety
Go to school
Make a career

Pay the bills
Get tired
Fuss over the lawn

And I've grown somewhere
Responsible
Am ridiculed

How boring he is
Just work work work
Stupid dad jokes

My body aches
In places I never knew
My soul longs

For the adventures of youth
The taste of passionate lips
The thud of my fists against a deserving jaw

To run through the wilds of the world
To see and climb purple mountains
Too sail on dangerous seas and ....

Just go back to my nap
That was the life of a younger man

Ravish my willing girlfriend
Drinking in her delighted shrieks

And people wonder why old men want to drink

may/june 3:26

Twelve silver buttons
Paired hearts
Hand to hand
Denim whispers
Twist my soul
Aching for your touch
Opening silver buttons
One by one

Aftercare

A soft touch
Sinking in
The curve of my side
Five points
And a center
Pressing there
Against skin
Prickling for more.

Thumb rubbing
Into bony prominence
Of iliac spine
Pulling closer
And pushing back
Toward and away
From where my hip
Wants to linger.

Slowly move me
Safety found
In the feel of
My cheek
Upon your chest
And your kiss
On my brow
As we immerse ourselves
Further into each other.

2-27

Another long hellish day
In the fiery pit of Texas
Parched and bent
Wrung out and dusty
Staggerimgly dizzy
Just another Summer's day

Crystal clear and cold
The cool gift of heaven itself
Pure and clean
The wonderful wetness of water
How I have longed for its relief
Delighting in its refreshment

may/june 3:27

full moon, clear sky
summer night and laughter
cigar smoke swirls amid
boys barely men
full of promise and expectation

it takes a village
to raise a child
all the pieces that made a
life possible creating sense
out of chaos and tumult
only in retrospect can the
path taken be seen
the places where this choice or that
made such a difference...

Montessori and a loving earth mama nanny
earnest lunches and fretful glances
nurse ratchet at the ready
on call for advice, snipping stitches

this night will never come again
a milestone crossed
a young man launched
seize the day -
we will be here
to catch you. to celebrate with you.
to be a shadow at your side.

Gravity

This pull unseen
Keeping feet grounded
Head in the clouds
The tug felt deep down
Within a celestial body
Rife with reminiscent thoughts
Of mornings spent in orbit
Around the one
Longing more than anything
To make an impact upon
In a meaningful way
But without causing
A painful crater upon the surface
So staying high above
Despite the force felt to dig deeper
The earnestness in this space between
Growing closer with every passing
When the attraction
Between them becomes too much
They will meet,
Coming together
To finally touch

Bedtime

Calm night
A heavy bag unopened
Teeth brushed
It’s late, come to bed.

Soft clink of your glasses
Setting them on the night stand
The first time seeing you without
It’s dark
Lamplight streaming through the window
The lines of your brow
And how your eyes are the same and different.

The rustling of sheets
Climb into our bed
Your body long next to mine
Stretching from fingertips to toes
Slipping an arm under my head
Your bicep my new pillow
Pressing myself,
Skin against skin
A soft kiss as we pull closer
And softening as breathing deepens.

I won’t let you sleep long
As heart beats resound in my ear
Our legs intertwined
I lay dreaming of more and soon
Every moment.

2-29

Flavor explosion across my senses
Wild caught blueberries by the handful
Ripe, juicy and a deep bluish indigo

I love them in your muffins
With real melted butter
With a spot of coffee to start the day

Or pancakes! Blueberry pancakes
With butter and real maple syrup
On a lazy Sunday with the Summer sun

Pies, cakes, cobbler, tea, and jams
A taste from heaven
Just one more or two if you please

may/june 3:29

Talk talk listen wait
Two become one
Then five.
Time passes
Seasons change us all
The matrix of what is possible
Shifts and glimmers
He becomes she
And one is shattered
The shards inevitable
And three shuttle
Back and forth
The known structure
Forsaken for the authentic
For the joyous possible
The future is but a glimmer
As the old falls away
Take care lass
That endings are well done
So that like the phoenix
A new life can be born
