Thinking about the abomination (to the original Star Wars) of TFA, I came up with this: The rebels win at Jakku. The remnants of the Empire flee to parts unknown and unseen. Leia leads the military wing for 19 years.
Now, how in the world (universe) do you recruit troops to a military with no apparent adversary? Troops ain't cheap. Neither, presumably, are X-wings. So, lets say you have a squadron X-wing pilots aged 20-something, sitting at a remote base with not a whole lot to do. Leia can't afford endless military practice runs. Naturally, there are a mix of genders. Bored, young, fit...sexy time! With droids to help in fun!
