Just because a female creates an account on a sex oriented message board, it doesn't necessarily follow that she's interested in providing wank fodder for anyone who demands it. A fact that seems to be lost on many a leg humper here.

When all is said and done, there is still a real, live person at the other end of that keyboard and he or she shouldn't be treated as fantasy/fetish delivery system just cause someone else wants to get their rocks off. To quote another Litster : Your orgasm is not my problem!

So, if someone is so crass as to check basic courtesy and manners at the door, then they deserve whatever ridicule befalls them. At best, hopefully some of them will be shamed into being a bit more mindful of how they approach other Litsters in future messages. At worst, they keep on keeping on, but those who have to deal with this kind of shit on a regular basis can at least get and share a chuckle out of it.

We are women just like any other woman you have ever met. We are not fair game for asshats who PM us the most inane or vile rubbish because we have an account here. We joined Lit for our own reasons. We post asshat messages here so that we can laugh at them together - which is better than being disgusted by them on our own. (Particularly with mass mailers who send many women the same message.) It helps us feel not so alone when our inbox fills with random cocks. If this thread has the side effect of discouraging asshat PM creators, then that is likely to reduce the amount of asshat PMs sent and received, making Lit a better place to talk to people who aren't asshats.

Does this board have a feature that allows you to configure your inbox to receive PMs ONLY from people on your friend's list?

Sure, it's an option and some people do choose to exercise it. Others don't - on the off chance they might receive a thoughtful, well crafted PM that just might spark an intelligent conversation.

I've been known to send a query to other Litsters WRT something they've written in open forum. Some of those conversations consisted of no more than a few exchanged missives. Others went on to become more involved discussion than ran the gamut of a variety of topics - which over time, developed into friendship.

But really, that's beside the point. I don't see why someone should have to close their inbox to a select few just because some other people choose to discard whatever sense of decency they have when they get behind a keyboard. And honestly, unless you're the type of person who sends asshat messages, I'm perplexed as to why you're so concerned with how people who receive offensive PMs choose to deal with it.
 
Thanks for the suggestion, but I find that it's better to laugh about the asshat PMs here and not close myself off to PMs from people who I just haven't met yet. :)

Talks and negotiations are currently being held with the owners of this site for the development of a PM filter which will eradicate asshat PMs before they are read.

It has a feature which will search out repeated patterns in messages to deal with the asshideous copier paster, and a spelling / grammar checker - current working name "Prasa Filter" - designed to expunge messages sent by those who struggle with there / their, your / you're, to / too, etc, have no upper case (sorry ed) and little to no punctuation, type in some form of L33T SpeAk or any nonsensical text shorthand (u no who u r, lol), or show a complete disregard for the "return" key.

There are also some language filters being ironed out to detect messages with misogynistic and narcissistic qualities.

Messages flagged as asshateous or having asshat qualities will be held for a brief time in a quarantine folder (with sender / recipient info withheld), where the message can be read, enjoyed, and commented on by anyone. The (alleged) asshat sender can plead their case and apply to have their message released, and sent to the intended recipient, but only after corrections (spelling, grammar) are made, and reasonable explanation is provided for "copyin' & paystin'" or multiple and random recipients.

PMs with cock pics, and overuse of the words "cock", "pussy", "cunt", "unicorn", "bitch", and the phrase "and then you..." will bypass the quarantine folder completely, be permanently deleted. As to the need to post on this thread, does it occur to you that this thread provides a vent for some posters? Without it I would be tempted to respond to each PM with the vitriol I unloaded on the last poor schmuck who had the temerity to send me an unsolicited PM (even though I give fair warning in both my profile and sig line that I don't want them ).

That should be at the top of every new mail PM window and it should be a pop-up when they hit send. Instead of yes/no buttons for Are you sure?, it should have one button that says, "Fuck that, send anyway," and another that says, "Oh, maybe I shouldn't send this after all."

If the sender clicks fuck that, the PM will automatically be lost forever in cyber-space. The sender won't know what happened. The PM just won't go anywhere.

I think if the sender is mass mailing his messages that should negate the 'private' aspect of the PM and therefore leave him/her open to public ridicule.
 
How about this: If an asshat sends the same PM to 3 or more women, all privacy issues are gone. He's open for public ridicule.
