I have a different take: belts don't have enough weight to really hurt. A heavy paddle is my #1 choice.

I have a different view again. A dragon cane in the hands of someone who knows how to use it is about as tough as it gets. All that power concentrated across a very small surface area, with hardly any air resistance to impede progress and the flex to cover the expanse of the bottom.

Not my favorite moment but in the heat of passion it has been done and is almost enjoyable

I really prefer barehanded spanking. Granted, the impact is not always severe enough for some who enjoy the sting, but I love the connection I have and experience with my play partner. I don’t really feel the hands on connection when using a belt or a paddle. I do use a high quality flogger with certain play, for instance when bound to a St Andrews Cross, but nothing comes close to bare handed spanking.

Last night

Canes *can* be as bad, but in right hands they can be almost gentle. With belt you don't have that option, it's almost like everything or nothing.

Can you please describe the least brutal ones?

We have tried a regular men's leather belt and a braided one, and I did not feel much of a difference. For me they both were either way too soft, or so painful that I had to immediately stop it, there just wasn't any in between. I can't even compare them because they went like this: nothing... nothing.. .harder... stil nothing... Aaaaaa! STOP!!!!

Yes. We just gave up on trying to find that middle ground - there are much easier ways to get there.

The only thing I do not completely agree with, is putting canes and paddles in the same "stiff" category. To me, "paddle" is a wooden thing, which is of cause stiff. But canes that I use are very thin and VERY flexible. It took me quite a while to learn how to use them, but in flexibility they are definitively much closer to a belt, than to a paddle.
