Anyone edit poetry?

I need some help with a short piece (a little over 300 words). It is non-erotic. I haven't a clue how to write poetry and have never previously had any interest in doing so.

Now I find I have something I want to express and poetry seems the right way to do it. I know it is a mess, but the meaning is there that I want to convey.

Anyone care to help, or even just comment?

Try not to focus so much on what the form and "getting it right" when you are starting out. As you develop your interest, the reasons for an utility of certain forms and devices will become more apparent to you. The important thing is to find the thing that motivates you to write poetry and develop THAT.

Nothing beats Rilke's advice here and you can't beat Dennis Hopper when it comes to a reading.

I'm not sure, with the current popularity of free-form poetry, what "getting it right" constitutes in poetry anymore.
