"When during the campaign, I would say 'Mexico is going to pay for it,' obviously, I never said this, and I never meant they're gonna write out a check, I said they're going to pay for it. They are."

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/10/politics/trump-mexico-pay-wall/index.html

Thus spoke the con artist on his way to a Texas district where he wrongly claims illegals are wreaking havoc with crime whereas the district has the lowest crime rate in 30 years.

It is true he never said Mexico would write a check to pay for the wall, except when he did. In this archived web page from Russian-backed campaign, the con artist explicitly says on the third day of his administration he would force Mexico to write a one-time check of $5 to $10 billion:

It's an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion to ensure that $24 billion continues to flow into their country year after year.

Of course the con artist also repeatedly said making Mexico pay for the wall would be so easy. In January of 2017 he scoffed at news reports which said the U.S. taxpayer would be paying for the wall, not Mexico. Instead, he said Mexico would reimburse the American government for the costs of the wall (isn't that a roundabout way of saying the U.S. taxpayer is paying for the wall? What if Mexico doesn't reimburse the money?)

One other item of note, on the same web page where he said Mexico would pay for the wall via one-time disbursement, the con artist had this comment:

Keep in mind, the United States has already taken in 4X more migrants than any other country on planet earth, producing lower wages and higher unemployment for our own citizens and recent migrants.

This is an extraordinary comment to make when one considers:

A) the con artist hires, almost exclusively, migrants or others from foreign countries to work at his failing golf clubs in this country, and,

B) the con artist hires illegals to work at his failing golf clubs in this country

Why would he do this? As his own words say:

"It's almost impossible to get help," the Republican presidential candidate told CNN last month. "And part of the reason you can't get American people is they want full time jobs."

The full time jobs portion comes in because the positions he wants to fill at his failing golf clubs are only eight month positions rather than year round. However, there happens to be an employment agency which specializes in part-time workers to fill these seasonal jobs. When asked if his firm had ever been contacted to fill these jobs, Tom Veenstra, senior director of support services at the Palm Beach County CareerSource office which offers a free service to link qualified job candidates with employers:

"We have hundreds of qualified candidates for jobs like these," Veenstra told CNN. "That's what we do here. We help place local residents into jobs like those."

Did Trump use the free service? Only once, Veenstra says. After criticism about its hiring practices, Mar-a-Lago asked the Palm Beach County CareerSource office to send over qualified candidates for a single position. Veenstra says he sent four applicants, one was hired.

Veenstra says there were no problems with the hire as far as he knows, but they never had another request from Mar-a-Lago.

If the idea is that migrants are taking jobs from Americans and depressing wages, wouldn't it make sense to fill any open position with an American first? Apparently not. As the Fox tabloid reported when it was announced the con artist had once again hired foreigners to fill positions:

Critics of the visa program claim it is a tool employers can use to exploit vulnerable foreign workers and represses wages for American workers by providing a cheap labor source for companies. Supporters say the program is necessary to keep American businesses afloat and allows seasonal businesses to operate at a greater capacity.

In other words, the con artist and his supporters are doing the very thing the con artist whined about as part of his platform: hiring foreign workers who take jobs from Americans and depress wages.

It's no wonder the con artist lies so much. He can't keep them all straight.

One other thing to remember. The con artist stated publicly he would not blame Democrats if a shutdown occurred:

"I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck," the president said, speaking to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. "So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not gonna blame you for it. The last time you shut it down it didn't work. I will take the mantle of shutting down. And I'm gonna shut it down for border security."

For your reading pleasure, at least 20 times the con artist has said Mexico will pay for the wall since 2015:

This jackass is so all over the place with what he says and does! It must be exhausting for his supporters to do the mental gymnastics necessary to defend him.

I think his supporters have been used to selective denial for years. Many have no regrets over voting for George W. Bush.

People who support him don't even try to do any mental exercises... That would require an organ they're missing...

Similarly, it appears some are not using theirs, assuming the same ones voted-for/supported Dubya... I doubt the #s are exactly the same, &/or represent the same persons (bet there are some who did GWB, but not Trump, & vice-versa).

I think the view from New Zealand seems to be more than a bit murky.

Don't get me wrong. I've been to New Zealand and loved it there (a question being, of course, considering your criticism, have you ever actually been to the States?) and would happily resettle there if my children and grandchildren weren't in the States.

But I've got to say that your comment seems more than a bit off the wall and uninformed.

Maybe Trump should consider hiring Chinese construction workers. They have experience in building great walls, and probably can do it at a lower price.

1] He'd have to allow them on the continent, to say nothing of in the country.

2] He knows all about "The Art Of The Deal", but neither one of them would write in a language the other could comprehend.
