Stories That Aren't Fun

If the story is dark but you want to write it then write it. Whether it tanks in the ratings or gets less reads than your they all came happily and often ever after story, Lit pays you the same. Like TarnishedPenny said much of Dickens was bleak as was Shakespeare and they are immortals. Some stories are dark or depressing but if you have a desire to tell them there will probably be some that appreciate that style. Not sure if a lot of sex is enough to compensate though. I have a story that has plenty of sex but also has some American Southern Gothic influence where all the main characters die and though it doesn't have a bad rating here it wasn't read by a lot of people. Was also in novels - novellas so don't think that helped though only other choice was romance and the hea crowd wouldn't have like it I guess.
