Legacy: A Star Trek RP

T’Nara’s listened to the Captain’s explanation of why he was on board, however it was still against Starfleet regulations to be on a ship without orders or authorized clearance to be on board which she would have been informed by Starfleet operations of his clearance. “Yes, you would not be able to tell me your mission, however I would have been informed by Command that you would be an authorized passenger.” She politically corrected him. “However, since the commodore obviously knows your on board that relives me of my responsibility. Her gaze moves over to the Lt. “However, I believe Lt. Steward here would have an issue since he is in charge of this ships security.”

T’Nara walked over toward the Lt. “Lt. Steward, I believe Captain Hunter needs to be scanned in and logged in as an authorized passenger. Please follow Starfleet regulations even if the Commodore knows Captain Hunter is aboard.” She had a feeling that Starfleet Command didn’t know this fact, however, as the captain says there is no conspiracy here. “This may just be an oversight Lt, but we need to make sure. This is the most advanced Starship in the federation and we have to be very tight on security and procedures.” She looks over her shoulder at Captain Hunter. “My other questions that I have, if it’s okay with you shall wait for a latter time. I must go and speak with the Commodore.” T’Nara informed her intentions as she walks past Lt. Steward. “Please report to me once you have ensured that Captain Hunter is authorized to be on board.” She voiced to the Lt as she passed by.

T’Nara was heading back to her quarters to log in as the First officer and do her first opening personal log.

Under Arrest?

Mack couldn't believe what he had heard. Was he under arrest? She said that Starfleet Operations hadn't placed him on the manifest as a guest for this tour, especially since Chris was the head of Starfleet Operations. Something was going on here and he didn't like it.

He looked over to the young Lieutenant that Cdr. Winters had called to. What did she say his name was... Steward? That name sounded familiar to him. Mack didn't have to think about it to much as he studied the young officer's face. "You were in one of my classes weren't you?" he asked the man.

Pike sat behind the desk in the rather spartan looking office. He didn't want to decorate the room with anything that he couldn't remove later. After all if this trip went well by the end he'd be able to put Mack's name on the manifest as the Captain. However he had to do this carefully, if not it could blow up in his face and he'd have to go with his next best option.

He chose not to worry about Mack for the moment and instead focus on the ship's status. So far everything was working the way it was supposed to. But he had to admit that he was worried about that engine. It's design was different than any other type he had ever heard about or been around before. If it worked the way the engineers hoped it would, it would be a leap forward for Starfleet.

“However, I believe Lt. Steward here would have an issue since he is in charge of this ships security.”

The Commander's look in his direction and her words caught him completely off-guard. He was in charge of the ship security? What? He didn't have time to be shocked though.

T’Nara walked over toward the Lt. “Lt. Steward, I believe Captain Hunter needs to be scanned in and logged in as an authorized passenger. Please follow Starfleet regulations even if the Commodore knows Captain Hunter is aboard.”

He didn't move a muscle as she gave her order, but he knew that in his eyes there would have been a load of confusion.

“This may just be an oversight Lt, but we need to make sure. This is the most advanced Starship in the federation and we have to be very tight on security and procedures.”

He nodded at these words as they were most likely the truth.

“Please report to me once you have ensured that Captain Hunter is authorized to be on board.” She voiced to the Lt as she passed by.

"Yes Commander, I will do so immediately." He waited for her to pass him and then he walked over to Captain Hunter. He couldn't believe that he had just been ordered to arrest THE Captain Hunter as a stowaway. But before he could say anything.

Mack didn't have to think about it to much as he studied the young officer's face. "You were in one of my classes weren't you?" he asked the man.

He paused and nodded, "Yes sir, I attended your classes during my officer's training."

He took a deep breath, "Sir, as much as I hate to do this, but as stated Regulation 7, Paragraph 4, you are under arrest. I wish to inform you that you have been classified as an unauthorized passenger upon this vessel. I would ask you to escort me to the Security office. I would want to do so with your co-operation sir."

"not a problem Lieutenant you're just doing your job." he said and started to move out of engineering, then stopped. "Of course you'll have to show me where Security is since I don't really know where they ended up putting it." Mack said with a smile. He was trying to be jovial about it, but part of him was irritated by the whole thing.

"Right this way sir."

Dale led the way, but was quite self-conscious about being the one escorting Captain Hunter. Once they entered the turbolift and he had pushed the designated deck, he faced Mack.

"Sir if I may be so frank. Do you have any idea what is going on here? First I got a chewing out by Commander Pike, then he assigned me to Brig and Engineering guard duty. Commander Winters have stated that I am in command of Security. And now I am stuck with the duty to apprehend one of the finest captains of Starfleet like a common criminal. Something just doesn't sit right with all of this sir."

"Have you looked at the ship's manifest of late Lieutenant?" Mack asked. He wondered if what was going on was that Pike had initially wanted the young man to be the security chief. Which he could see, from what he remembered of the young man during his days at the academy he had the potential for it and more. but it was more than possible that Pike assigned him to this duty for the time being. After all the ship was just on a two week tour. A flag waving ceremony so to speak.

T’Nara walked down the corridor in her normal determined state, her face was emotionless but her mind was swirl about as if she was plopped into a blender blade at high speed. The Commodore knew procedures, Knew a ship wasn’t to be taken out without a captain, yes Pike was a Commodore whom also wasn’t sanctioned by the Fleet admiral or anyone of the joint chief of staff to be on this ship so in reality the Commodore himself should also be arrested. She shook her head at the hapless ways of the humans, if this was a Vulcan ship none of this would be occurring.

She wondered if she shouldn’t do her job and follow Starfleet regulations and have the Commodore arrested as well, none of this was sitting with her very well, none at all. She shook her head to rid herself of the human side of thinking and went strict to the Vulcan ways of logic. She would be derelict of her duties if she did not follow and enforce the regulations that was set forth by Starfleet Command.

T’Nara passed her quarters and moved to the communications box. “T’Nara to Commodore Pike.” When he responded, “I need to speak with you immediately sir.” T’Nara’s tone of voice was the same emotionless state which it always was in. When she got his location and approved for her to come to his quarters. She called for Lt. Steward, “Lt. I need you to accompany me to the Commodore’s quarters immediately.” She turned the intercom off and directly went to the Commodore’s quarters and waited for the Lt.

Pike looked up from his paperwork and the ship's progress reports. He had this to say for the Commander she was punctual this was exactly the time he had said he wanted to meet with her at.

"Have you looked at the ship's manifest of late Lieutenant?" Mack asked.

Dale shook his head, "No sir, there had been no reason for me to study the manifest in detail. All I needed to know was the authorized personnel and my immediate superiors."

He frowned, "Come to think of it, on the list I had studied there wasn't a chief of Security and neither have I met one since my arrival."

The lift stopped and Dale led Mack to the detention area. As he was busy processing Mack, his communicator came to life.

“Lt. I need you to accompany me to the Commodore’s quarters immediately.”

He looked at Mack and slightly shook his head, "I don't like this one bit. Something is up."

He touched the activation badge and replied, "Roger that Commander."

He opened one of the holding cells and escorted Mack to it, before activating it and locking the field behind Mack. "Once again, I am sorry about this sir."

That said, he left the brig and used a turbolift to gain access to the correct floor which would take him to the Captain's ready room. He passed numerous other people and found Commander Winters just outside the door, seemingly ready to enter. He came to a stop next to her, "Commander."

T’Nara’s gaze shifted from her sightless stare upon the blueish metal flooring to stern featured face of Lt. Steward. She wasn’t so sure about this move, her human side offered the unsureness while her Vulcan side pushed the matter. It would be best to be wrong in following procedure than not following the procedures at all. So took a controlling breath before speaking up to the Lieutenant.

“Lieutenant.” She nodded to him, responding to his reporting and greeting. “Lieutenant, Under Regulation seven, Paragraph four of Starfleet general orders you are ordered to place Commodore Pike under arrest until orders from Starfleet command overrides my orders. Please note time and date of said orders, Note time and date that I have taken command of this vessel in the ship’s Security logs.” T’Nara informed coldly.

T’Nara pressed the signaling device and awaited for the Commodore to permit them access to the captain’s ready room. “My orders will be quickly reversed Lieutenant, I apologize for the extra reports that you will have to do, but as stated before. We must keep the Security procedures along with all other procedures under tight accordance.” She looked away from the man to the door after her explaining statement.

Dale nodded as the Commander gave her orders, but as she pushed the signaling device, he leaned closer and said in a low tone for her to hear, "Commander I will not go against your orders. But I have found a glitch in the computer when I processed Captain Walker. He is a registered guest on the Chimera and Commodore Pike is on this list as our CO."

He straightened himself and looked at the door in front of them both.

"Enter." Pike said when he heard the buzzer. The simple command released the normally active privacy lock and the door opened. From the desk Pike was able to see both the Commander and Lt. Steward. It had surprised him that they would both be coming to see him. He wondered if something had gone wrong.

T'Nara took a deep breath, tilted her head slightly to the side and glared over her shoulder at the Lt. for a few seconds before she shifted her head back to the front when the Commodore acknowledged their presence and granted them access into the ready room.

"Commodore," T'Nara greeted Pike professionally. "I have made an error and arrested Captain Hunter on the charge of being a castaway, and was about to place you under arrest as well, but it seems that there was a glitch in the computer system that Lt. Steward was excellent in his duties discovered. I would like permission to run a level three diagnostic's on the ships mainframe. It will require a alternating shut down of partitions in the computer core sir."

She stood silent allowing the information to settle and give Lt. Steward a chance to explain how he found the error in the system.

Dale had entered with Commander Winters and were standing at attention in the Commodore's presence for the second time in twenty six hours: " Sir, when I processed Captain Hunter I received an error message, when I inspected this error I found that the manifest
was showing the regular mission personnel and not
this special tour. I then searched
for
orders pertaining to the special mission I found it in the secondary memory banks. The orders were received, but never uploaded. I agree with Commander Winters that the chief engineer or science officer head a full diagnostic scan to rectify this problem and perhaps prevent future misunderstandings, sir."

The orders were received, but never uploaded. A lot was going through Pike head at that time. The level 3 diagnostic was an extensive check of the systems run by the computer and a team of crew members. But the crew members only verify key mechanical and system readings. It usually only took about 10 minutes. He knew it was a loss of time they could afford so he had no problem with that.

But the other thing that was going through his mind was the relavation from Commander Winters that she had placed Mack in the brig because he wasn't on the manifest according to procedure, that she was about to come to him to arrest him. This was a sistuation that for some reason was making him want to laugh. He imagined Mack in the cell irrrate.

He took a deep breath as he refocused his thoughts. "Alright well then, when it comes to Mack, we'll be getting the Captain out of the brig with an explaination from you Commander." He was thinking about having her apologize, but had decided against it after all she was just doing her job.

"As for the diagnostic, make it so." he ordered. He started to think on that more now and quickly added. "Have Lt. Rhinquist, the new Chief Science officer handle it. According to her Starfleet record she's the best computer expert in the fleet after the Enterprise's Commander Spock. She might was well start earning her pay. If the level 3 doesn't show anything then we'll perform the level 2. Hopefully it's just a glitch due to this being a new ship." He then waited for a few moments and looked up to the two officers. "Is there anything else?" he asked them.

Dale listened to the Commodore's reaction and his solution to their conundrum. When he had left the brig, Captain Hunter had seemed in an understanding mood, he just hoped that mood carried through to the Commander telling him something he already knew.

"With the Commodore's permission, I would like a private word."

T'Nara Nods her understanding of the orders. She nods to Lt Steward as she turns and walks out of the ready room. Her mind now focused on the new set of directives given to her by the Commodore. She knew that the Captain wouldn't be very hospitable to her even if she was thinking of the crew and ship's safety, and even if she was doing her job. No matter it was done and over with, it was now time to ensure that Lt. Rhinquist was informed to run the diagnostics and report her findings along with a plan to correct any said errors to be found.

She walked onto the bridge scouted the bridge of the Lt, Whom at the moment was not at her station. She walked over to the communications, for she knew the Lt Rhinquist wasn't scheduled to come on duty till sixteen-hundred hours, but this was an issue that would require her to report to duty now. "Lt Rhinquist ... Please report to the Bridge." She spoke over the communications.

Timeline: August 15, 2264

Cavy slowly peeled away the delicate outer membrane, exposing a thin liquid culture of cells. She was in the midst of extracting the byproducts when she heard her name.

Seriously? Now? She thought, just as things were about to get interesting. After weeks of researching to find the perfect media and conditions for cell growth, she was finally about to see if her efforts had paid off. And now, she would have to wait. Cavy was annoyed. Patience was not her strong suit.

"Pythia. Make a record of culture 1542 and have Felix finish the extraction." It was unorthodox but Cavy had decided to name Chimera's AI. In the past few weeks, she had spent so much time with the ship's AI, it felt odd not to call her something besides "Computer." She had chosen the name Pythia as homage to the Oracle of Delphi. It seemed fitting to her.

"Yes, Lt. Rhinquist."

"And, make sure he repeats all preliminary tests in triplicate. I want a solid data set when I return."

She quickly took off her gloves and lab coat and raced to the Bridge, contemplating what sort of emergency would have pulled her away from the lab. The ship was still docked. The dignitaries hadn't yet arrived. She had plenty of time before she was required to report to duty.

She made her way to the bridge, locating the Commander.

"Commander Winters." She acknowledged. "You called?"

T’Nara was at the science computer stations on the bridge performing some of the basic tests over the computer but nothing too in depth. She was concerned about the computer glitch even more than she was worried about the issue of having non-assigned personal on board. Things just weren’t adding up correctly, not for a highly advanced Starship that would have been so nick picked at before anyone but the engineering staff came aboard yet along given the okay to leave starport with a full crew regardless if it was just a flag waving cruise.

T’Nara turned toward the Lt. “Yes, Lt. Rhinquist. We seem to have a computer glitch that was detected by Lt. Steward of Security. The Commodore and I concur that a level three diagnostic needs to be ran. If nothing shows up we would like the next level diagnostic to be preformed.” T’Nara looked away from the Lt for a moment. “But Lt I don’t see how a glitch could have been over looked upon the Engineers final ship wide diagnostic. Unless…” She looks at the Lt, then over to the center bridge where all the press was earlier. “Unless the glitch isn’t a glitch but a slow activating virus! This glitch started when we accessed the personal list. A very low level access to the computer system, this inquiry into the log might have been the activating key since that would be the first thing the XO of a ship would do!” T’Nara looked back to the Lt, her face heavy with the concern. “Lt, your expertise is widely known, please dig into this as if the ship was in extreme danger… I just have a bad feeling…” She takes a step past the Lt and stops, leans back in, “And that should mean a lot since I’m half Vulcan.” She added before taking a few steps out of the Lt’s way.

T’Nara turned back toward the Lt. “I shall allow you to do you work. Please report your findings to me or Commodore Pike. If you need to go higher on the diagnostic you have my permission this very moment. So I leave this task in your very capable hands.” T’Nara respectfully nodded to the Lt before she walked to the center of the command circle. Her glare focused upon the viewscreen, but her mind was on the odd events that were happening aboard this vessel.

Pike watched as Cdr. Winters had left the office and then turned to face the Lieutenant once the door had closed again insuring the privacy he had wanted. "Go ahead Mr. Steward. What's on your mind?"

CMO Hannibal Argead

"Ensign, your admixture is flawed." Hannibal's pursed his lips wilted into a frown. He sighed. "I have serious doubts about your abilities to tend the hydroponics bay."

"Look, daddy!" Mads came running over with a flaccid basil leaf held between her two, delicate hands like it was a slain child. Large, wet tears slithered down her cheeks. "He's killing everything!" She wiped some snot from her face on the brown cloth covering her left elbow. "It's inhumane!"

Hannibal's dark eyes flickered from the ensign, to Madeline, and then back to the ensign. "Computer, re-assign Ensign Brodrick to maintenance duty until further notice. He can take the third shift in water reclamation."

"Yes, doctor," the Chimera chimed.

"Computer, please modulate your pitch down by one octave."

"Yes, doctor," the Chimera chimed, now less cheerful teenager and more emo tween. "That'll do for now. Please play Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto No. 3 in F major, access my compubehavisituational musical profile based upon that piece and choose appropriate accompaniments while I am in my demesne as defined by the profile."

"Yes, doctor." The somber, slow orchestral arrangements of Vivaldi's Autumn played in the background just above a whisper.

"Computer, assign Lieutenant Hiro as Chief Botanist upon my authority. Place Madeline Mickelsen on special assignment as Gardener. She's to be on the first shift. Grant her permissions while on duty equal to an ensign."

Hannibal surveyed the hydroponics bay. His nose twitched. "Even the tomatoes have fungal rot." Hannibal shook his head. "Computer, place Ensign Brodrick on formal notice and attach this incident to his permanent record." Hannibal's eyes fell upon the young man.

"Sir, I just-"

Hiro placed a gentle hand upon Brodrick and put her other forefinger to her lips. "Shh. You'll only make it worse. Find solace that you still remain on this vessel." She gave a small nod of her head, and her lips curved into a companionable smile. She patted his shoulder once more stepping away. "Just let it all go," she said to Brodrick, before turning to Hannibal's and lazily saluting. "We will all find tranquility in these halls."

"Dismissed Ensign Brodrick," Hannibal said, frowning as he scanned the room one last time. "I'll have to alter the recipes for this evening." He took a deep breath and extracted his PADD. He tapped through a few things, dictating a few memos and firing them off to other members of his staff.

Hiro took Madeline up into her arms and soothed Madeline. "There, there, sweet one." Mads sniffled. "Let us take a deep breath. In with the universe, let the air that has touched many worlds bask in our lungs and nourish our hearts." Hiro inhaled deep for many seconds. Madeline followed suite. "Now, we shall exhale all that we have nurtured so others may share in our union of body. Let our molecules merge with all those billions who will share pieces of us as the stars burn and mankind stretches ever on." Hiro exhaled and Mads followed suite. Hiro lead Mads through several more breathing exercises until the younger girl had managed to regain some measure of composure.

Hannibal left somewhere after the third breath without comment. He walked down the halls, inspecting a few more of the departments under his authority. He oversaw the arrival of a new Protein Synthesizer and worked with a few engineers to get the old one removed and the new one tied into the power grid.

Dale stood at parade rest, "Sir, I have been under the impression that I have been placed upon this ship as security personnel. Commander Winters referred to me as the Chief of Security and I have not found records in the new orders which belayed that designation."

Dale looked at the Commadore, "Sir, I wish to know why you made the assignment."

Pike looked at the young officer. He seemed to be taking him in. Then he activated the computer terminal on the desk and began to type in some commands. "Son how long have you been in Starfleet now?" he asked him. As he waited for Dale's answer whatever he had called up had appeared on the screen and he was now reading it.

He looked straight ahead under the scrutiny, frowning slightly at the question. "Since graduation up until now, it will be three years sir."

He was curious how that had to do with anything.
