Why I left Fetlife

I finally deleted my Fetlie account last night and I have zero regrets. The site was great for the time being, but more and more it started to look like Disneyland, with all the kids waiting in line for the next best ride, the candy (all the photos of porn stars/erotica models) pouring out of the money making sky like a waterfall. And all the kids (men and women, both sexes equally guilty) always high on sugar: More nudes please and keep those stupid BDSM stories to yourself. So Fetlife turned from a kinky Facebook to a highly overrated porn-site, cause you have to pay for the same mediocre videos you get to watch for free online.

Yes, I admit , I used to enjoy writing there, but now every time I post a story, I get 0 comments after the story and 190 wanna-fuck-******** messages in my private Inbox. Seriously???

I'm angry, because I wasted so much time in there to build a network of fans, and in the end all my fans betrayed me for some nude photos of women, who use robots to respond back to their messages.

In the end, it's all good, because I found this awesome site where people actually read and are less superficial.

Thank you for letting me vent.

But hey, change of scenery is good once in a while. Hope you find some of what you're looking for here...or at least feel more comfortable with settling on what you do find.

My problem with Fetlife is the exact same problem the modern society has today. Gluttony. Just fucking enjoy your lollipop for few minutes before you decide to stick 10 lollipops in your mouth.

I've found some "like mindedness" which I grant you is not the same as KFC and car sex. Maybe the latter is better....I'm not sure...but the person beyond the other senses like sight and touch is very interesting, and the ideas shared are something to keep for a lifetime.

I wrote in Fetlife, because it is the only site that cares about theft and will not allow it unlike Literotica where I have seen/heard so much about copy-rigthed material been copied and pasted somewhere else.

I also wrote in Fetlife because all my stories were real and included other players from Fetlife. Makes sense?

Where do I start? First, not everybody can acess Fetlife. You have to have an account. Then if someone copies your text, it is impossible to be pasted anywhere because of a special protection software. Third, private settings are phenomenal: you decide who reads your story and who has access to your profile.

#1 and #3 are both: if nobody can read it, it cannot be copied. Awesome concept!

#2 - seriously? :rolleyes: This statement is on the same level of ridiculousness as the idea that you could prevent pregnancy by hanging weasel testicles around your neck.

Thanks for giving me the idea to write about weasel testicles. I so needed something fresh!!!

But seriously, not every writer writes to entertain 1000s. I wrote only for very few, because I like being connected to my readers.

If it can be read, it can be copied.

Your computer needs to make a local copy of the story in order to show it to you. If you have control over your own computer and the appropriate know-how, then you can save that local copy, and from there you can make new copies as you like.

Some websites use tricks that will disable the simplest copying methods, but there are other options.

But you are blaming Lit for their very purpose of existence - publishing stories. Literotica is NOT Facebook.

I'm not blaming anyone. Just stating a fact. Way too many stories were stolen from Literotica and not one story, that I know of was stolen from Fet.

But I do enjoy Literotica better as I like to read:)
 
I fully agree with everything said here. FL was great when it was young but as it aged, it followed the typical social networking. It was better before it became mainstream....
 
This is bizarre to me, because Fetlife is social networking. It has never billed itself as anything else. It's not a story-sharing site (though it has a feature for it), it's not a dating site (though many people have formed relationships there), it's not a forum (though topical groups allow for that type of discussion). It has always billed itself as "kinky Facebook" and that's what it is.

I use Fetlife for social networking. I keep up with my RL kinky friends there - and "going mainstream" is good because more of my friends are there now! It works great for me - I'm far more active there than here. If you're not happy with Fetlife, apparently you're using it for something other than its intended purpose.

Do I wish it had other features? Absolutely. The privacy filter is actually terrible - I can't block individual friends from seeing a post, the only options are "all Fetlifers" or "all friends." (I have acquaintances there I'd rather not share some intimate sex stuff with, hence the desire for more layers of filtering.)

But Fetlife does what I want it to, which is what it's billed as - it lets me keep up with my kinky RL friends, many of whom I'm not connected with in vanilla space.

As for copying stuff - if you know how, you can share videos with people who aren't even members. You can save any photo. You can copy any story. It's not that well protected, and if you don't want your stuff being copied, you shouldn't post it on public sites. YMMV.
 
I always found FL too hard to navigate from my phone
Alt was good way back in the day too
Collarspace is 90% fakes and flakes but I still fool around on it and sometimes get lucky.

Now that I will agree with. They've developed an app that's still VERY much in the beta stage - it can only do private messages so far, really - but I hope it will someday actually be useful. Unfortunately, because the site is 18+, they can't get it in any app stores which makes it hard to get people to download.

I view piracy as free publicity as long as the arsehole hasn't scrubbed my name. Most of the times they don't even bother to look into what they're stealing. The websites they post into are either seedy (full of malware and very little views) or normal publishers where you can take down your story without hassle if you report it.

Just see it one of the few risks you take when unleashing your story online for free.


Anywho....
