Intelligent discussion....turned into picture thread

I've been around this BB, off and on, for a long time and the transformation I've seen after returning following an extended absence is disappointing.

It amazes me how what starts as an intelligent discussion of sex and sexuality topics, using actual thoughts and words, morphs into picture posting threads and, once done, the discussion seems to stop.

I guess it's just a sign of the times. Just as our political discourse has been co-opted by picture memes where opinion and "news" (often contrived and erroneous) is represented by an image with half a dozen words, so too has our sexual discussion been replaced by pictures. I call political memes "political discourse for the intellectually lazy" and look at unsolicited picture posts on a thread that starts out as a discussion in much the same way.

Don't get me wrong. I like some of the images too and they appeal to my prurient interests, but does every discussion have to eventually take this route?

The average Litster's mind goes like this: "Me no words good. Pictures make winky-winky go stiff. Me like."

A good point. And as a poster who typically only adds links to images - I'm probably one of the targets of your comments.

My response is simply - have a discussion with whom? And regards what?

Let's take this thread for example. The wonderful idea of having a woman make love to a man via an uncommon - and in many places somewhat taboo fashion. Fine, the words have been said - what now? Give anecdotes of personal experience? Indulge in fantasy?

None of these are wrong - and I agree that a better mix would give more... heft? Girth? To the discussion all around.

My guess is that if all the posters to this thread stopped adding images - this thread would likely die. A point to your argument to be sure, but what purpose does that ultimately serve?

Wow. So sorry you apparently took offense.

To follow your train of thought, you are the savior of every thread to which you post an incessant stream of image links. We are forever in your debt.

On the other hand, I think it is often the sullying of a thread into nothing but picture posting that often results in its demise. People, like me, who might use words to answer the questions posed by the originator of the thread, offer intelligent discussion and advice, and maybe even some anecdotal stories of a prurient nature, become reluctant to post to threads once the old "File Attached" paper clip icon shows up in the title or they become inundated with images and URLs.

Who wants to wade through page after page of URLs (links) to images, and page after page of people who feel the need to "Quote" those links just to make nothing but a response like "Wow", or "I like #5", in search of some discussion?

I suppose it's a sign of the times where people have short attention spans and demand immediate gratification. Websites with pornographic images are common as dirt, those primarily dedicated to erotic literature, and with forums where people "use their words"...not so much. You want the former, I want the latter and remember when that's primarily what these forums were.

There's plenty of threads dedicated to picture posting. You can tell which ones they are because they have titles like "Female On/Off Pix", "Favorite Gay Photos", or make it otherwise clear in the first post that they are soliciting for picture posts. Why not post in those or, if it suits your fancy, start your own like....maybe....with a title like "Pegging pictures - post here."
