I love writing, too, Red. I love telling stories, like my grandmother and great-grandmother before me - different sides of the family. And, I'm good at it, too, though I "tell" more than "show", too much campfire I suppose. I just wish I wasn't so damned good at finding computer coding errors and "translating" Techno-Geek-speak into American English, then I could tell the cousin I quit her IT temp agency and work fulltime at writing fiction/friction fiction.
Today I set out, after gym time, to write some notes, which to my surprise I did, more than what I had set. Must be the added caffeine that's in an iced latte.
No one in my family ever told stories. My grandparents on my father's side passed away when I was 8, so what I do recall about them is vague, and we left the area at the same time, so we had no connection with my mother's family, except for the one week every year we would drive up North to see them from the South.
I don't know who the story telling comes from, but I do know that I've passed it to all three of my kids.
My maternal great-grandmother was born in a small Polish Carpathian mountain village. She told us kids all her village's legends and tales, and that included some about the Magi - one of the 3 Wisemen was from her area. She also told us tales about demons and vampires - sparkly vamps of Twitlight didn't exist.
My paternal grandmother was one of her Mohawk tribe's "Storykeepers," keeping the legends and stories of the Iroquois alive. Though I wasn't old enough to be my generation's Keeper, I do remember the stuff she told us.
My Spawn hasn't inherited my lust for writing, he's a Math and Computer natural like me, and is also a "Burning rubber and oil is a GOOD smell" lover, though he prefers Grand-Am, LeMans style racing more than NASCAR.
A very wonderful history you have. My sister is the geologist in my family had has tracked us so far back, I can't even fathom a guess.
My husband did a family tree for his parents last year and at one point got B.C., although I was skeptical of some of the records. But it was neat and he got back into the Middle Ages, possibly before that.
Writing goal -- not sure. We're going out to dinner and there's a hockey game. Hmmm. However, tomorrow morning is looking like a real possibility.

So I've dropped PennGirl off and am sitting at McDonald's... let's hope this results in some writing...

So wait, you're sitting quietly inside your local McD, laptop at hand, furiously typing away at a sex story? Am I just a pervert or is that mental picture remarkably entertaining?
I edited porn in McDs once, and posted on Lit. it was a bit nerve-wracking as folks kept walking by. lol My images were off - I'm not that brave.
You're probably just a pervert, but that's okay. And there's no sex in either story yet, so it's probably not quite as entertaining as you think.

LOL I always keep images off -- kids, you know. But I'm kind of stuck. If I went much further away to write, I wouldn't have much time before I had to turn around and come back to pick up PennGirl. If I was home, i'd feel like I should be washing dishes or something. So McD's it is.
LOL, I can live with being a pervert, it's gotten me this far in life. Still, there's a fun allure to the image of a hot MILF sitting in a booth in a public place, quietly working on something that would shock most of society. It's a bit subversive and a great reminder of how little we know about the people who surround us everyday.
For the record, I see it as sweet and innocent and I am finding an image ripe for story fodder... and for that, dear PennLady, thank you! I'm glad you're you and that you chose to share.

I can't access Lit. from McD's or BK. Both consider Lit. a violation of their access policy.
I have written 1000-1500 word chunks of stories at Starbucks. The hard part is writing the sex scenes when there is traffic in the vicinity. I keep having to pull up the ESPN page I keep minimized.
You're a doll for thinking I'm a hot MILF. I am wearing glasses, if that matters. I also had a hot chocolate (felt like I had to buy something since I'm sitting here using their wifi).
You're quite welcome.

One of the local bars at home has a deck that hangs out over the lake. On nice days, I ride the motorcycle up there and sit on the deck to write. Beer, a great view of the lake and people walking around as well as sitting outside with me.
The owner knows what i write as she reads here. A few other do but not everyone. Ever so often I get someone looking over my shoulder even if I'm sitting in the corner. Some grin and ask questions, some blush and haul ass.
The fun things in life.
As for writing, I got about 2k words down on one story and edited another.
