I've been experimenting with I guess pretty mild self bondage lately, and I was wondering if this is really weird, or if others do this. Usually I just make a tight belt out of clothesline, and then attach rope front and back between my legs, but tight. Then I'll get dressed and go out.

Not weird at all. The only caution I'd suggest is don't get so elaborate with your bondage that you can't get out of it in a hurry. In a scene, the dom is in charge of making sure of safety, if the submissive gets a cramp or some unforeseen emergency develops. With no dom involved, this job falls to you.
Don't tie any knots too tightly that you can't get them undone in a hurry, and don't cut off circulation to necessary body parts on your person. Of course, if you have any unnecessary parts, that's one thing. But, I don't have any unnecessary parts on my person.

Yes, I would say self bondage is quite normal. Just give a search on your porn video channel of choice and you will see it over and over. I, for one, love to tie myself to sleep when I travel and am in some big, strange hotel room bed..

I take scarves with me when I travel, and I simply use them to bind myself. I sleep in the fetal position, so knees together, ankles together, or just tightly bound around my body. The snug feeling helps me rest easier. I also have a pair of bracelets I can hook together to bind my wrists, yet I can easily slip out of them.
