Falkland Islands Dependencies (which Argentina invaded as well as The Falklands despite them never having been Spanish or anything other than British)

I still blame the Argies for inflicting another term of Margaret Thatcher on us...

Let's see now...Pope Alexander VI's Inter caetera wasn't entirely clear on the matter, so the Iberians went to it themselves in the Treaty of Tordesillas. Now, did that put the Falklands in Portugese territory? And Portugal is "England's oldest ally." So, the Argentinian Pope should accept British dominion over the Malvinas, and not send us another Maggie...Please. Not another Maggie. The US might end up with another Ronnie, then. And we poor Canucks could see the return of "the Chin."

And being English/Brits we didn't accept the Pope's ruling on anything.

The Spanish Main was never wholly Spanish, and when Spain tried to claim it all, the English, French and Dutch disagreed forcefully. :D

Including with ships apparently flying the Jolly Roger but actually English, French or Dutch Privateers, whichever was most convenient at the time. Some captains had several Letters of Marque, and therefore could attack almost any country's shipping even if they had a Letter of Marque issued by that country.

Some 'pirates' were hung despite actually being semi-legitimate privateers.
