There by the fireside
Rye whiskey, a choice cigar
Dreams of my lover

There be poets that all will celebrate
With each other and for one another

Songwriters whose songs all may sing
With great acclaim as they sing in unison

Visual artists whose cronies all applaud
Falling over themselves in their congratulations

Musicians lauded for their genious playing
Instrumentality gone wild with wonder of fandom

Chefs whose creations win them tasty awards
Their starveling followers toasting their wonders

Athletes whose fortune be tied with their mates
Without which, one can only guess or dream

Sculptors, speakers, smiths, carvers, fabricators
Architects, martial artists, parents, teachers

All, practice in their art, crafting their own reality
Each of them giving a piece of their soul

Priceless in their generosity, their hearts revealed
I for one, recognize you all, with honorable admiration

There was this one day
When after all I'd said and done
Brought hope to the hopeless
Shined that light
At the end of the tunnel
My encouragement a boon
Enthusiasm infectious
Gave a piece of my heart
To strangers
The work I was meant to do
Lived my life
Honorably-
Most of the time
Reared my children well
Stayed committed
When others would have left
For days, weeks, months, years, and decades
And it was not enough
They found one ancient mistake
And rejected all that I am
All that I've done
said I'm not good enough
And cast me out

I am still all that I am
They cannot take that from me
It is their loss
Not mine

..
I've only gone out the back door.
once before
that was plenty,
windows another story
wait
coffee

Hiya HarryHill, welcome to the barnyard. There's refreshments indoors, and a fishing pond beyond the trees. Stay as long as you like.

Underneath the flickering streetlight
On the bridge spanning the Trinity
I look into depths of the night sky
My lovers' arms entwined with mine
An embrace so close I dare not breathe
But breathe I will in fullness
Sharing a timeless moment with her
From the endless sea of stars
To the riveting depth of her eyes
A startling nebula of color
I sink in ecstasy of her adoration
Stirring the storms of her passion
From the tide pools of my own mystery
On a melting hot Summer night
Deep in the heart of a wild land, Texas

..
Very kind.
I should wet a line soon,
drag some oldster cat out,
fetch it home,
slaughter,
consume,
paprika,
fish
.

Icecream melting in Texas heat
Lick the drips quick
Grinning between rich chocolate bites
creamy vanilla studded with cookie bits
Chocolate chips and graham crumbs
Your lips sweet and cold against mine
Giggling as our ankles twine
Summer sweetness
Sticky fingers cleaned one by one
Smiling as I meet your eyes
Naughty thoughts race between us
Grab my hand and pull me close
Our love hotter than that Texas sun

Three little toadies in my backyard
How they hop and they hop in the rain
Three little toadies in my backyard
With their wet warty skin all green and slime
Three little toadies in my backyard
How they sing and they sing all through the night
Three little toadies in my backyard
There they are when I water the plants
Three little toadies in my backyard
This Summer's newest neighbors make me smile

Clear blue heat
folds into dampness
with the night's showers
the air clinging heavily

Sunflowers giant sway
wind chimes jangle
puppy baking in the sun
panting

join me on the porch luv
take in these August pleasures
beads of sweat on your brow
damp droplets wet the glass
of our gin and tonics

mossies at the edge
protective cloak of citronella
as the sun filters through the trees
golden haze
until the day is done

filament light strings
throw light
into the growing darkness
quiet happiness in silence
fingers twine
lips kiss
cool air settles
your arms wrap me close
like a blanket

summer night magic

In a swirl of leaves
Against an Autumn sky
The cool winds herald
It is time it is time
The Summer has breathed
Its last fiery breath
The furnace is out
And the air clears
Clean and cool
Dancing with the leaves
Their form is of you
My heart, my love
Who else
With clear eyes
As verdant greenery
Gives way
To golds, reds, pinks
Rich browns and orange
Their job well done
In the cycle of living
Mother earth smiles
As her children grow
Dancing in a swirl
Her music in my ears
Love in my heart
The seasons of my life
Going ever on and on

Enraptured across a sea of pines
Serene and timeless in my delight
Communing from the Earth's granite spines
A world of troubles held in respite

With the sun's kiss upon my face
The songs of birds fill my ears
Songs that belong here in this place
Whose beauty moves me to tears

Bubbling creek flows over the rocks
Clear, clean, and cool against my feet
Happily relieved of boots and socks
Is it minutes or hours with this retreat

I am willfully lost here and left alone
No desire to return to faraway lands
Where clash and clamor visit home
Come here my love, take my hands

Oh look, a butterfly

Enraptured across a sea of pines
Serene and timeless in my delight
Communing from the Earth's granite spines
A world of troubles held in respite

Ah come home did'ja? :confetti: Welcome back from that lovely retreat described in your poem.

Early morning calm
Fog so thick it confuses and oppresses
Mark the compass
Check the GPS
Turn on the saftey strobe
Eyes straining through the dim light
Fog horn so loud
It bounces off the land and echos
Unable to locate it's origin
Light dawns slowly
Grey water. Grey sky. Gray fog.
Paddle drips.
Water so still every stroke makes a mark
Wake trailing
Finger rivulets in liquid silver

In my dreams of naked twilight
She floats serenely across cool waters
Her dark hair bundled beneath her nape
While Summer blazes out a dying blast

Another season nearly done
Barbecues and swim parties
Cicada songs throughout the day
Blast furnace heat that never ends

How we all gaped and gasped
How terribly hot it is these many days
And how refreshingly cool a swim
Or that tall glass of iced lemonade

A healthy glow of sunsoaked skin
Sunglasses and swimsuits
Sandals and a favorite country song
Picking golden hay from her hair

Bring me home and put me to bed
Curl in to my warmth and sleepy smile
Your coconut kisses and firefly highlights
Send me off to dreams of Summer's end

Eat, sleep, and be merry
Live, laugh, and love
That's what the sign says
Posted there on the wall

I don't care where you're from
I don't care where you're going
I don't care what he said
Cuz when you come to my house
I say to you, welcome friends

If you don't have anything nice to say
Then don't say anything at all
That is what my momma said
While standing in the Hall

I don't care where you're from
I don't care where you're going
I don't care what she said
Cuz when you come to my house
I say to you, welcome friends

Be the change you want in the world
Be excellent to one another
It is what the deaf can hear
And the blind can see

I don't care where you're from
I don't care where you're going
I don't care what she said
Cuz when you come to my house
I say to you, welcome friends

Kiss me my darling
Let me taste your lips and tongue
My teeth on your neck

Dancing with a swish amidst the sawdust on the floor
My girl in her Ropers and Rocky Mountains, close in my arms
We were cheek to cheek with that familiar old country song
Was it Hank Jr. or Garth Brooks that got us on the floor?
I don't know but it's just her and me in that old honky tonk
Dark and smoky with laughter and the crack of billiard balls
A last cold beer before the band plays its last song
A slow melody to remember the night, my night with her
Then its cool night air and a cleared out parking lot
My hands in her honey brown hair, lips against her neck
Against that old Ford pickup truck, last one there that night
Outside the old honkytonk down there off Highway 78
Music in my ears, arms full of sweet vibrant female
In the dog days of Summer, it was a night to remember

I keep sharpening that sword
How I long to test its edge
Sharpening, sharpening
This week, last week
Last month, and the month before
That edge is sure sharp
Sharpening, sharpening
Any day now
A contract will come
And this old sword will swing again
Laying low foes big and small
Let them taste the fire of my heart
And the temper of my steel
Sharpening, sharpening

I see the raven
I hear her wings fluttering in the wind
I feel her tremble eagerly in my arms
I smell her perfume forever
I taste her skin against my lips
