Clerihew Crazy

Inspired by Pico's current AV:
Andre Gregory,
weird and persneggedy,
talks his way through a film with Wallace Shawn.
It was confusing. I couldn't tell WTF was going on.

*lol* Awesome Clerihew! Good idea, too; someone should start a thread challenge: "Write a poem about the AV above you" or "Write a poem about your AV."

I agree, the conversation in My Dinner with Andre is pretty strange. If I had to guess, I'd say the theme of the movie is the fear and confusion of mid-life crisis: Andre, who's gone through it, confuses the hell out of Wallace, who is just getting there. The dinner talk is pure palaver, but the subtext is pretty serious. Getting old is scary business.

Louis Isadore Kahn
in Mother Russia was actually spawned,
though his work is in America, India and Bangladesh.
His life would make a kickass play by Bertolt Brecht.

Bring it on!

Adolf Loos
had a very clear set of views;
he was a critic and he was a dandy,
and for Tzara made a house that was truly an eye-candy.
Hmmm. That one's pretty good.

Nope. Can't beat it. Just'll outlast you, as I said.
Walter Gropius
designed nothing dopeyous,
but rather the clean-lined things a Bauhauser should do.
Some fairly cheaply, too.
In all due modesty, I think mine are sillier, though.

OK, let's see what I can come up with... :D

Filippo Brunelleschi
was so brilliant as to be pesky!
Not only did he invent linear perspective,
but his dome stunned Firenze's collective!
Aw, shit, Lauren. You're making me laugh so hard I can't think. Cheater. ;)

Plus I told you I'm engineering heritage. Brunelleschi is not fair. Guy's a god among engineers. Tch, tch, tch.

OK, OK. Clear my mind. Focus. Here:
Apollodorus of Damascus,
Greek guy, did Trajan's Column—don't walk past it!
It's one of the very coolest things in Rome, as is his Pantheon.
Yeah, old building, but like it's got it goin' on.
Best pop music reference so far, I think.

Your turn. :rose:

God Luv 'Em...

B and A two BadAss poets
are truly nerdy All-Know-Its
they rhyme about architectural freaks
and then turn next to engineering geeks

Thank God my name doesn't start with "T".
Ah, champagne1982!
your effervescence, bubbling, clings to my flute!
Oh, geek, is I? Hey! How I work,
sweet nymph so launched on wine-borne cork!
You are, as the picture points out, quite a Brut. ;)

Wishes to remind you gently
That while you cavort
The form should be short
E. C. Bentley,
perhaps negligently,
left few rules for the clerihew:
Name. Four lines. Couplet rhyme. Must they be short too?

Hey, darlin'. Are you suffering in the heat like I am? I feel like I'm living in Austin or something. Effing weather.

He was caught with the Premiers daughter in the backseat a-shaggin
Losing his job was a forgone conclusion

I enjoy the lightness of this poetry form. I was going to write one about Trump because he is so well known but found that it got a bit heavy where sticking to the engineers/architects helped keep the poem lighthearted :D
