People use the word to mean a variety of things, but the origin of the word is enjoyment of sexual humiliation.

For example, a woman finding her husband-to-be fucking another woman the night before their wedding. Perhaps the one he is in bed with is younger or more attractive, or the wife-to-be overhears him saying he is going to leave her at the altar. The to-be-wife would be turned on by the humiliation, while also feeling inferior.

Personally speaking, those kinds of stories don't interest me at all. But there are people who write stories about women who enjoy their men having sex with other women without humiliating elements, and they label those stories cuckquean. Those stories interest me. because some people were introduced to the term by those non-humiliation stories, they continue to label similar stories as cuckquean, even though the meaning is different.


Your example might fit the humiliation definition if the woman who is forced to be submissive is aroused by the thought of her husband and rival having sex, but feels humiliated by her new role/status.

I recently discovered the term too, and it helped us explain a lot of our sexuality and her fantasies in our marriage/relationship. She is not into the humiliation aspect, but the rest or other definition of cuckquean fits quite well. We both joined lit recently to explore the very topic :)

Reminds me of the differences between a Cuckold and a Wittol. In usage here and most places a Cuckold is anyone whose wife is with other men. By definition a man who rather than being distressed is enamored with the idea of having his wife attend to other men is a Wittol.

Haven't heard that one. These days, that arrangement is known by the wife being a "hot wife" rather than giving the husband a name.

"Cuckhold" historically meant a husband whose wife cheated on him. As you say, in this context it's more properly a husband whose wife cheats on him in front of him, the implication being he's too weak-willed to divorce her so he'll put up with anything she does. That in turn gave rise to men who have the fetish and want to be cuckholded, at which point the "humiliation" is mostly in the roleplay and/or BDSM of it.

And then there's the "open marriage" where both the husband and wife basically fuck other people freely, or "wife swapping" and "swinging" where they do so in front of each other.

I wouldn't consider it as such. I'm assuming that the situation is mutually agreed on and not adversarial in nature. As an adjunct question, would you consider him to be cuckolded if the other woman was waiting patiently for you to finish with her spouse?
