Yesterday we were mailing some things for the mother-in-law. Standing next to us at the other window was a frail little woman who had entered her pen number wrong 3 times trying to get her pension out. She wasn't understanding what the lady was telling her that her card was no longer usable since she tried 3 times unsuccessfully.

She didn't have a phone so she couldn't call and sort it like the lady told her. The husband and I were both starting to get distressed by it as we think as an agent who dispenses the pension money they should have had to call and help her sort it when she told them she had no way to call.

She said she had to choose between feeding herself and her cat. I watched as she started to leave and she sat on a chair for a moment and looked so frail and worried and really just confused. What a horrible system to have to try and use when your old, tired and sometimes very forgetful. Leaving you at Christmas with nothing open and no way to sort out a mess that they should have had help with the moment they said they had no phone.

Mind you the post office solution of 'Don't you have any family who could help?' *slaps them silly* How exactly were they supposed to call them with no phone to come and help? Not everyone has family living in the immediate walking area to go for help. (to borrow a word from another Ah'er...the asshats!)

Before she left the husband and I had a whisper and I cleared out all the money I had in my pockets and purse and I went after her. I didn't say why or what I heard I just said 'excuse me ma'am' as I tapped her on the shoulder, pressed the money in her hand, gave her a hug and said Merry Christmas'. She looked like she was going to tear up, but not wanting to upset her I withdrew back to help finish the packages.

We saw her as we started to go on more of our errands heading for the grocery store. Hopefully she'll be okay and when she does see her family over the holidays they'll sort it but for right now at least she won't have to make the choice of who to feed first. *sighs*

And yes later we did kick the shit out of ourselves as neither of us had our cellphone with us and we should have taken her to our house and helped her sort the mess.

Chantily I am certain it made a difference. *hugs* if anything in her spirits.:heart::kiss::rose:

It's my granddaughter's second birthday today, Christmas Eve.

Today is HER birthday.

Christmas starts tomorrow.

In the last few days it has been my wife's birthday, my granddaughter's parents wedding anniversary, and now granddaughter's birthday.

December can be expensive. :D

But enjoyable.

Every time MySpace looks like it has got its act together it manages to pull another 'security' stunt that makes it a major pain to use.

What a bunch of asshats.

I'm so glad I keep our driveway cleared of snow on a regular basis.

I hear my idiot neighbors out trying to chip ice away from sections of their drive... and I sit here laughing. :D

I love it when we can actually afford what we want and need.

(The new car is just fantastic :D)

My driveway and car were iced over this morning, which was odd seeing as how it was 33F outside, and the roads were clear, and yet I was late to work (and then left early because I was sick).

I really love cooking a nice meal that brings everyone to the table, and I feel truly blessed to be surrounded by loved ones. Speaking of which, I'd better get back to them.

Happy Holidays everyone:rose:

Okay the Turkey is stuffed and in the oven. My familial duty has been expressed now I can go back to bed. Ugh. I should sneak a Christmas cookie before I go though.:D

I'm not sure which is sadder, Checking scores on porn stories on Christmas morning or finding new votes and comments  :D

I remember someone posting that there was a way to block a single AV image in Firefox. Could anyone tell me how to do it?

In the meantime, time for breakfast and then on to opening gifts.

I actually got gifts. Well, the same gift twice from each of my nephews (their mother, my sister, put her sons names on gift certificate envelopes). I really wasn't expecting that at all.

Download the Adblock Plus extension. Right click on the image and "Adblock Image" should show up as an option.
