One group of teens (That belonged to local organized youth groups), just wanted to go to the beach for the day.
The plans were discussed on Facebook and Twitter. Being the teens that they are, they did not think about the fact
that others that were looking at what was being said. People from other groups invited themselves.

May 30, 2011

Authorities briefly blocked off streets near the popular South Boston beach and detained several people.
Officers from local, state, transit, and UMass Boston police responded to reports of unrest around 5:30 p.m.

Fights break out at Carson Beach
Up to 1,000 youths reported involved; police say brawls moved elsewhere

Fights broke out among rival gang members on Carson Beach in South Boston yesterday and spilled out across the city,
triggering a massive law enforcement response from at least five agencies to stem the violence.

Yesterday, the beach, located steps away from the South Boston State Police barracks, attracted thousands of families
and other Memorial Day revelers gathered for the unofficial start of summer. While the majority of the crowd was peaceful,
the unruly youths again gathered at the beach and in nearby parking lots.

For the third time in four days, police dispersed the crowd, rushing everyone off the streets.

This in one of the unintended consequences of the 2007-2008 Wall Street Crash.
Less money in the system. Every city and state in the USA has budget problems.
There is less money to dole out. Teens do not vote. Teens do not have a voice
in the media. They do not get the attention that state and city office holders get.
The programs to help teens get job experience, and have something to do
when the weather is hot in the city, are not there because there is no money for it.
The mentoring and supervision for teens is not there. It takes money to pay for
space, air conditioning, and wages for adults who want to help.

No parents for these kids?

These are not well-to-do teens. These are disadvantaged inner city teens. Their parents are busy with their two or three jobs that are needed
to pay the high Boston area rents. Pay for the high priced and low quality food at the Boston stores. If they are lucky enough to have a car,
they pay high rates because they are not trusted. High prices for gas. 2006 most of the teens had jobs. Now, with so much unemployment,
the teens have been displaced by desperate adults. These are latch key teens. School is over. And so is the supervision.

Yes. We have tornado. Shaker Road. Film footage. Unmistakable. Westfield. I am worried for you and others. It is in the area. I hope you are in a safe place.
I am watching whdh Eyewitness report Ch 7. This is not straight line wind or wind sheer. This is the real thing. Not Joplin strength. But a real tornado.

SPRINGFIELD (CBS) — Several tornadoes touched down Wednesday afternoon as very strong storms moved through Massachusetts.

Tornadoes were confirmed in Westfield, Springfield, Wilbraham, Sturbridge, Monson, Oxford and Agawam. There was also a funnel cloud spotted in Worcester, but it has not been confirmed whether it touched down.

Pictures of Springfield show severe damage to many buildings. There are many buildings missing roofs and some buildings with their fronts torn off. There is also an obvious path of trees torn down.

Many boom boom booms (fireworks)
Powerful boom sounds used like commas in a paragraph (cannon reports)
The deepest booms used like exclamation points (the biggest and the most beautiful fireworks in the bunch)

Having just listened to the blow-off-
Who or what was it for?

One lost his life. One lost a leg. One lost his sanity. One lost his way. One just got lost. They lost brothers, uncles and cousins. I prefer to think that it was for them.

Powerful thunderstorms rip across state
More than 38,000 lose electricity; rail lines delayed
June 10, 2011

The storms, which stretched from Maine to Pennsylvania, began crossing the state just after 3 p.m., moving southeast at 35 miles per hour,
said William Babcock, a meteorologist at the weather service.

Severe weather-

Powerful thunderstorms rolled across Massachusetts yesterday, leaving thousands without power and inflicting hail and wind damage,
including areas devastated by last week’s tornadoes, officials said.

Hail that was 1.5 inches in diameter was reported.

Wind gusts reached 70 miles per hour and knocked down trees in many towns, including Longmeadow, West Springfield, and Wayland,
according to the weather service in Taunton.

The severe weather also brought an early end to the Scooper Bowl, a three-day ice cream event on the
Boston City Hall Plaza that raises money for the Jimmy Fund.

It looks as if the Boston police are taking no chances. They are surrounding The Boston Garden.
Streets will be blocked off. If you park in a garage close by, you might not be able to move your car
for at least an hour after the Bruins game has ended. If you are counting on being at a bar or cafe close by
The Garden, you might not be able to get in. Go early. Police are to watch how many are inside the doors.

I have not been down that way in a long time.
I have no idea what the mood is.

Parking restrictions:

North Station, Faneuil Hall Area, Fenway Park/Kenmore Square Area:

No Parking signs will be posted. The city is encouraging fans to take public transportation.

Bruins tickets will cost fans top dollar

Over the weekend, the cost of balcony seats for tonight’s Game 6 against the Vancouver Canucks ranged from $400 to a couple of thousand dollars apiece as the secondary ticket market reacted to supply, demand, and fan passion. During the regular season, balcony seats sold by the Bruins start at $37.50, loge seats at $100.50, and front row glass seats at $251.50.

The FBI also announced today that they will air 30-second TV commercials beginning tomorrow in 14 cities on Greig’s shady dealings with Bulger.
The spots will run in Massachusetts, Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Wisconsin.

The reward for 60 year old Catherine Greig's capture is now $100,000.

The FBI has offered a $2 million reward for information leading to the capture of the 82 year old Whitey Bulger.

Another FBI billboard will be added to Times Square!

Yelena Bonner, a Russian rights activist and widow of Nobel Peace Prize winner Andrei Sakharov, has died, her daughter said early Sunday. She was 88.

Bonner and Sakharov's cramped, three-room apartment in Moscow was the unofficial headquarters of the Soviet dissident movement in the 1970s,
and again in the late 1980s after they returned from internal exile in the city of Gorky.

Bonner's health, however, was deteriorating. Sakharov pleaded with Soviet officials to let her be treated in the West for her ailing heart. The officials refused.

Finally, after Sakharov staged three lengthy hunger strikes, she came to Boston in 1985 for sextuple bypass surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. A year later, Mrs. Bonner and Sakharov were freed in 1986 with a personal phone call from Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

Since her husband’s death in 1989, Mrs. Bonner had been splitting her time between the Boston area and Russia. She had not, however, dampened her dissent.

http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/o..._bonner_russian_rights_activist_at_88/?page=2

After Sakharov died in 1989, and the Soviet Union collapsed two years later, Bonner continued to champion human rights.

Bonner's remains will be cremated and eventually buried in a Moscow cemetery alongside her husband, mother and brothers, Yankelevich said.

(She and Sakharov were in the Boston newspapers, during their struggles.)

It is so sad, that Russia was so close to being free, and there was'nt enough hope, to get all the way there.

Study: All American Problems Could Be Solved By Just Stopping And Thinking For Two Seconds

CHAPEL HILL, NC—A study published Thursday by psychologists at the University of North Carolina concluded that all American problems—from stuck jacket zippers to the national debt—could be solved if citizens just stopped, took a deep breath, and thought for two seconds before they acted. "We found that in 93 percent of cases, a positive outcome could have been achieved if Americans simply splashed a little water on their faces prior to dealing with an unfair boss, being out of clean spoons, signing on to direct a second Wall Street film, or answering a call from a parent," Janet Mallory, the study's lead author, told reporters. "Our data indicate that when U.S. citizens don't take a second to compose themselves, they typically charge in like maniacs and hurt either themselves or several million Iraqi civilians." Mallory said a good rule of thumb for Americans is to think of a plan, stop, and then do the complete opposite.
