Hi.
I wonder how many other people have raised questions about this?

I've been a member here since September 2017, and from the very start I was asking lots of people if they know why I can't see my profile text or my profile picture on the 'My Profile' page in the Forum, or my avatar on any of the replies I've posted on various threads or private messages.

I believe I have some answers to these and other questions, which I would like to share :) Please correct me if I'm wrong here - all I'm trying to do is to help avoid others being as confused as I was :)

The issue with Avatars and Profile pictures:

In the Forum, if you have posted less than 100 messages on public threads, the Lit... forum will not display your Avatar (the little picture to the left of your message, below your User Name) or your Profile picture (in your Profile page). At the time of writing this, until you reach the magic '100 posts' mark, there is no way to add or edit these images.

Sadly, Private Messages aren't included in this total - so if you have (as I did) spent ages replying to dozens of PMs - that won't have clocked up any credit toward your 100 total :(

When I first joined the site, I was taken to a page where I completed a profile description (along with other info), and I added an Avatar. That detail is still there (if I go to www.Literotica.com/my/), but it was not visible in the forum (i.e. when I clicked the link My Profile, under Quick Links).

(((However (this part I find weird), it is visible if you read a story and click the link on the Author's Name, then click Biography)))

But...
When you have posted 100 or more public messages (you may need to log out and back in to activate this), two new links appear to the left of your list of messages (e.g. when viewing your Inbox). These are, Edit Avatar and Edit Profile Picture. Here you can add an Avatar (max 150 x 150 pixels) and a Profile picture (max 250 x 250 pixels)... see my profile for example.

It seems to me that either
a) there are two Personal Profile areas (one for the main site, and one for the forum),
and/or
b) these profiles should be linked together but the link between them has failed.

Several people have said in their messages that the Personal Profiles aren't working at the moment. Maybe they were at one time? ... because if I click the link to view the profile of other members (e.g. from one of their messages), some have this info completed and some don't. Mine still isn't visible (it says DoB November 30, like many others), so I assume that those who have this detail completed, joined before me (September 2017)?

Because the Profile Text isn't visible in the Forum, I have added a brief Bio in my common Signature. Do this from the Edit Signature link (to the left, when viewing your messages).

When in the Forum (viewing messages) if I click the link to Edit Profile, I get taken to a page where I can update my User Password and my Email address, but nothing else. Maybe this is what is not working (i.e. the link is wrong)?

I'm not sure where to report this as a problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions (or has anyone already done this)?

Also...
When you have reached the magic '100 posts', suddenly your Message Store expands from 150 to 250 messages (Inbox and Sent combined).

Another thing I noticed was that my messages could be now be sent to 'up-to 5 people' when before it was only 1 person - but, this may be related to having my first story published (the two happened about the same time, so I'm not sure which affected this). If anyone knows for sure, please add the info here.

One thing I can't understand is: The message store is limited to (say) 150 messages. These can be just 1 word or 1000 words - it doesn't seem to matter. Either counts as one message - seems unfair :S

When I discovered the 100 threshold, I set about adding quick posts to several 'Playground' threads, just to boost my total - but they become addictive (can't stay off them now - ha ha ;))

Anyway...
If anyone finds this useful, please add a note to keep it near the top of the recent posts.

Thanks for reading :)

It's really kind of convoluted and overly complicated. The reality is that difficult.

maybe you can answer a question i've had since the beginning and that no one seems able to answer. on the main lit profile page, the one with tabs for bio, submissions, favorites, etc. i have seen pictures posted below the main body, in the area that sometimes shows porn ads. how are these placed there and what are the requirements. again, i'm not talking about the forum profile but the main profile page.

You may be able to add these as an HTML Link. For Example:

I can copy and paste a link to a photo here, as
http://www.honda.co.uk/content/dam/...t_category.png/_jcr_content/renditions/c2.png

Or (in this message) I can add a link to the same photo by clicking the little 'mountain' icon above the panel where I'm typing the message - like this:
c2.png

The 'system' adds the tags
on either side of the link.
(not sure if this will work but I'll try it :))

Repeat of the Info here (from Manu).

Sorry about the issue. It's a linking issue that we are working on now!

In the meantime, you can update your Lit Profile here:
https://literotica.com/my/#/user/profile

(not tried yet, but I will...)

Sorry, but that's your profile on the story side of the site. What's broken is changing you profile for the forums.

And I have answered hundreds of post from noobs who can't get their avatar or profile picture set.

The simple answer: You need 100 posts in the forums for those sections to become active. You might have to logout and log back in too.

That option seems to have disappeared with the old authors options page.

Thanks for the advice. but...

Thanks to Primalex and Zeb_Carter for their suggestions.

I guess everyone who didn't read the fucking sticky:

Sticky: FAQ's - Read Before Posting Help Questions

I'd like to make a couple of points though...

Firstly, nowhere in the original setup or the FAQ can I see any mention of separate profiles for 'The Main Site' and 'The Forum' - which begs the question - Why are they different? ... and/or do they need to be? (or was this accidental as several other anomalies seem to be).

Also, I searched for ages looking for an answer to the 'Avatar/Profile Pic -100 posts' issue (which in fact I answered myself in my original post, after having discovered the reason by accident). My question here is: If Zeb has 'answered hundreds of post from noobs', surely Primalex, that suggests the info should be in the general FAQ, not a 'Sticky' thread (whatever that is).

I for one (and obviously hundreds of others) didn't know the thread existed - The info really should be in the proper FAQ - that's where people will go looking for it. The simple truth here is: 'You don't know what you don't know'. It should be in the Main FAQ.

Finally, I have tried asking these questions several times from the 'Message us' links, and never had a reply. After a while you come to accept the flaws and try to find the answers yourself - which is why I started this thread - to help others :)

Sorry guys, but it's not clear if you are directly involved with the site, but it you are perhaps adding the missing info to the published FAQ would be a help to everyone? If not, perhaps you could advise us 'noobs' how we can raise our problems with someone who will actually answer our questions? :) (or maybe update the FAQ - after all, isn't that what it's for? :))

In any event, Thanks tor your input :)

That's because it's a forum post so it was assumed that what people wanted to know about. Most people don't give a crap about the story side profiles because they just create them to read and favorite stuff. Only authors need to change/update their story side profile, so they ask about that in the Author's Hangout.

The very least that could happen is for Manu to post an acknowledgement of the issue and either tell us it's being worked on or scrapped. I've worked on board software similar to this and it really should be a 5 minute fix to reset the link.

And there are two things wrong with the OP(original post), section 3 is incorrect, you can reuse attachment by hotlinking them.

Section 4 doesn't mention you need 100 posts to do that...of course the OP was made before that change took effect/affect (I always get those two confused).
It's the former - Macey :)

Thanks jaF0 :)

And, Err... Thanks again Zeb.

Not sure I understand what you're saying in your first part (about 'Section 3')...

... but, Re: 'Section 4' - the 100 posts - actually, it is mentioned (several times).

... and thanks again for your input :)

BTW: Please could someone (Zeb?) explain how you add a link in your signature to another page (or site) without showing the 'http' link address? (e.g. I wanted the link to My Stories, to say simply 'My Stories' - and that would be the whole link).

Thanks in advance :)

To set up words (for example "my stories") with a clickable hyperlink is actually pretty easy if you use the "insert link" (the globe with the chain).

What you do is type the text you want in the window for you to input your desired signature. As you say, "My Stories."

Once you've done that, highlight the words (being very careful not to type over them) and click the "insert link" button just above the blank space for you to type in while the words are highlighted.

When you click it (the globe with the chain) another smaller window will open that says "Please enter the URL of your link" or something along those lines.

Personally, I go to the page I want to link, highlight the address and ctrl+c for copy, then come back and click in the bar asking me what page I want to link to and ctrl+v to paste or "Velcro" it in.

When you click "okay" you will see this big old thing that includes the web page url AND the words you typed somewhere in the middle. Don't fuss. That's the way it's supposed to look there. Probably.

BUT, if everything works right, once you click the okay button (or "save" or "submit" or whatever the hell it says in that iteration) on THAT screen (after clicking the pop up with the URL in it mind you), you should be able to, from that point on, see your signature line reading "My Stories" with an underline that, when someone clicks it, will open another page to where you want them to go.

From what you've got going on, Macey, I think you most likely did your current siggy something like that with one very important small difference. You didn't have the words "My Stories" highlighted when you clicked the "insert link" button.

I will caution you, however, that from my own experiences, it seems it does not retroactively affect previous posts if you should go check them once you make the change, but will become your new signature for new posts AFTER that point.

...

Absolutely right Mr. PuckIt (I assume Mr?).
Thank you so much for this - I'll try again and let you know :D

I do believe it works :)

Yay :D
Thank you Mr. PuckIt :)

... and it looks as if the change IS carried through to older posts too :D

Type in the text you want to show...

My Lit Stuff

Highlight the text.

Then click on the link button (the world with the chain link) and paste or type in the URL

And you will get this...code in the edit box...

My Stuff at Lit

That will look like this...

My Stuff at Lit

ETA: Ah, Puckit already posted this...ah well. Thanks Puckit.

Here is section 3 and 4...as originally written.

(section 3)Can you use the same attachment more than once? NO.
However, you can: (a)rename and resave the file and attach it to a new post, or (b)create an "index" by posting a link to the attachment. An index is what you see in many AmPics threads that have the links to many attached pics in the first post.
To post the link to the attachment/create an index of attached images in a single post:
1) Go to the original post (the one that contains the attachment(s) you want)
2) Click on the attachment (it's helpful to open this in a new tab or window)
3) When it opens, copy the URL from the address bar
4) Now go to your second post (the one you want the link to the attachment in, or the attachment copied to)
5) Press the icon at the top of the text box
6) Write in the text you want, and press OK
7) Insert/Paste the URL to the attachment that you just copied, and click OK again.

Your code should look like (without the asterisks):
[*URL=http*://www.literotica.com:81/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=539251]Here's Your Attachment from Your Other Post[/URL*]

The result: Here's Your Attachment from Your Other Post

(section 4)To add an image to your profile
1) Click on User CP
2) Under the Control Panel menu, click the "Edit Profile Picture" link
3) If the image is hosted online, insert the URL of the image. Again, the site must allow hotlinking for this to work. If the site doesn't, try uploading it to an image hosting site.
OR
1) If the image is on your computer instead of a website, click Browse, and upload it as an attachment.

As for section 3, she was correct when it was posted, but since then the attachment library has changed and you can get the URL of where it resides on Lit to use in subsequent posts and a Hotlinked image.

As for section 4 profile image, at the time this was posted you didn't need 100 posts, that was changed to save space on the server for those who never posted in the forums.

Whenever I log in, I try to see we are finally to update profiles. It seems this could have been fixed many times now with just a bit of code.

I keep thinking the same.
Maybe it's a more complex problem than appears on the face of it?
(or maybe the site administrator is short of people to do the fix?)

Perhaps someone with the right skills could volunteer?

I'm not complaining, just asking but I'm guessing these size restrictions are from when storage was far more expensive. Is there any chance we can request to get these increased? I'll often click on an image and wonder what it is.
