Does anyone recognize this story?

Hi guys, long time ago I read a mind control based story. It involved some teenager who suddenly discovered he had psionic powers. I don't remember how or why but he kept getting involved in battles with members of the psionic community. I can't remember if this story started out with a master pc theme or not (I don't think so but it might have) but eventually the psionic community decides to take over the world and he ends up training a bunch of telepaths to fight and leading the battle against them. (A russion group of psions I believe) The second story was being written when I stopped reading it for a time, and I believe there was something about a peoples psionic army. Ring a bell anyone?
