Food Porn

I never to take pics of my day to day...'experiments'...until I pop back in here.\

I'm curious, ever can anything then forget about it? I had a pickling fetish a few decades ago...and poking around my parents wine cellar, I found a mason jar of pickled carrots I left there. 20yrs ago.

Edit -- I'd post a pic, but I don't want to stretch the th'd again :D

I've only been canning for three years so I'm going to have to say no. :D

All I've ever done is jams and jellies.

(And thank you. )

Lemon Jelly. Cuz hey why not, it's not like I don't have enough jam and jelly now. The silly ass thing is I still have one pouch of pectin left. They had raspberries on sale last week and I realized I had no raspberry jam. Well of course I had to address that travesty. Thus another packet of pectin landed in my kitchen. Didn't take any pics of the raspberry. Trust me when I tell you it is delightful. Had a PBJ sandwich with it the other night.

Ready for processing, before capping:

Those look lemony lovely. :)

Did you grate / rasp some zest in there? Not sure if those are wee bubbles, or bits of zest I'm seeing in the pics.

Can I put you to work cleaning it when I'm finished? :D

I tend to clean while I cook.

Give me some soapy water and a scrubby brush!

I do love me some bleu cheese. While on vacation I had sweet potato kettle chips on a bed of melted bleu cheese. The combination of flavors was amazing.

Yesterday I set out to recreate this concoction at home. I still have some tweezing to do.

Careful not to drop your eyebrow hair in the cheese.

I do too. But there's always the stack of clean stuff on the towel on the counter, the floor need cleaning etc. The stuff I look at when I'm done and say "fuck it". :D

I'm going to step away from the entire blue cheese conversation.

There's a co-op in southern Wisconsin, $3/lb for double creamy house made blue! So cheap I'm not going to feel guilty about putting some on my burgers tonight!

I generally do not mess around when it comes to cleaning. Clean it and own it.

Nobody would blame you for opting out of the stinky cheese. It is a strong flavor and melted it has a strong scent. I like smokin' hot food, strong flavors, and cigars. I would not eat it every day but the melted bleu with the sweet and salty sweet potato chips is a pleasant combo.

It happens sometimes. I just like to clean as I go so I'm not overwhelmed when I'm done. It can be tiring enough.

Blasphemy. Blue cheese on a perfectly good piece of beef. Just... no. :p

My grandmother used to make a roquefort that I thought wasn't bad. For a blue cheese.

Good. Come finish up then. I'll be happy to show you where the swiffer is. :D

Just not a moldy cheese fan.

Upside Down Peach Chiffon Cake Part 1

Upside Down Peach Chiffon Cake, Part 1

It's one of the recipes out of my Julia Child baking cookbook - my Baking Bible, if you will. It's technically nectarines and in a 10 inch spring form. However nectarines are the same thing just with different skins and I don't want that damn much cake around so a 4 inch tall pan will do just fine thanks.

The pan, filled with the melted butter, brown sugar and peaches at the bottom.

Same, but now with a small bit of the streusel sprinkled over the peaches.

attachment.php

Now with the first bit of cake batter and the rest of the streusel.

And topped with the rest of the cake batter.

And lastly, a piece served with a bit of vanilla ice cream.

It's been over 15 years since I made this cake. I had forgotten how good it is.

upside down pineapple cake

It seems to be fruit upside down cake time. This time pineapple. I was gifted three pineapples. So... et voila, pineapple upside down cake.

Came out really good. The cake crumb and texture is awesome.

Oh look, it's pineapple.
