What would George Orwell have thought about the success of 2011 novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey" ? Next movie sequel due, Valentines Day 2018.

He did include the production of porn, in his book, "1984." Produced by the Ministry of Truth, Fiction Department (Ficdep), Pornography section – for Prole consumption only (Pornosec). Julia, the catalyst of Winston Smith's downfall, operates the machines that produce printed porn.

(Technology was not meant for Proles in the book, but 2017 America has porn, nearly everywhere.

George Orwell's books had enough significance, to be examined and discussed in classrooms.

What slant the viewpoint was given, depended on the institution, the teacher, the location.

What would George Orwell think about America's Donald Trump ?

12 September 2017

Hillary Clinton uses her new memoir to draw parallels between Donald Trump’s “war on truth” and the Soviet Union and George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four

She argues that Trump has taken “the war on truth” to a whole new level. “If he stood up tomorrow and declared that the Earth is flat, his counselor Kellyanne Conway might just go on Fox News and defend it as an ‘alternative fact,’ and too many people would believe it.

The National Enquirer’s Fervor for Trump

The tabloid is defined by its predatory spirit.

Why has it embraced the President with such sycophantic zeal ?

June 3, 2017

“We used to go after newsmakers no matter what side they were on,” a former Enquirer staffer told me. “And Trump is a guy who is running for President with a closet full of baggage. He’s the ultimate target-rich environment. The Enquirer had a golden opportunity, and they completely looked the other way.”

The publication trashed Trump’s rivals, running a dubious cover story on Ted Cruz that described him as a philanderer and another highly questionable piece that linked Cruz’s father to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

According to “The Godfather of Tabloid,” by Jack Vitek, Pope breezed through M.I.T. and did a brief stint in the C.I.A., then in its infancy, before returning, in 1952, to New York, where he struck out on his own, buying a moribund Hearst weekly and rechristening it the National Enquirer.

Pope died in 1988, when the Enquirer’s circulation was about four million, and the company fell into limbo. The Enquirer tabloids were eventually sold to Evercore, as a part of the A.M.I. deal, in 1999, and David Pecker became the C.E.O.

Hicks joined the team at Trump Tower in October 2014, without any idea her new boss intended to become president. Or that she had just signed on to his campaign.

Hicks was told she couldn't work for both the political and corporate branches of the Trump team.

Hicks told Lewandowski he'd have to find a new press secretary.

America does not have enough disruptive, misleading propaganda of our own! How nice of Russia to include America, on the list with Europe, to receive Russian propaganda!

NICK SCHIFRIN: U.S. intelligence says the likely troll financier is Evgeny Prigozhin, a businessman with catering companies. He’s been dubbed Putin’s personal chef.

Mindiyarov left the factory because he didn’t believe in its product. But he says it’s effective because the stories are succinct and echoed widely.

MARAT MINDIYAROV: Everything is very simple there, yes, black and white, no color, just black and white.

BEN NIMMO, Atlantic Council: Russian propaganda is actually very predictable and relatively simple. And I think of it as the four D’s, which are dismiss, distort, distract, and dismay.

Most of the ads, according to a blog post published late Wednesday by Facebook’s chief security officer, Alex Stamos, “appeared to focus on amplifying divisive social and political messages across the ideological spectrum — touching on topics from LGBT matters to race issues to immigration to gun rights.”

The acknowledgment by Facebook comes as congressional investigators and special counsel Robert S. Mueller III are probing Russian interference in the U.S. election, including allegations that the Kremlin may have coordinated with the Trump campaign.

Facebook discovered the Russian connection as part of an investigation that began this spring looking at purchasers of politically motivated ads, according to people familiar with the inquiry. It found that 3,300 ads had digital footprints that led to the Russian company.
