Well, obviously it's kind of a pain in the ass, but probably more so for the staff doing the closings (It appears that they have to do it manually). I suspect it's not just to make the system more stable. This gets rid of threads that aren't used much any longer. It gets rid of most picture threads (issues with copywrite and such). But hey, it's their site. We get it for free. So, I'm just going to roll with it...
