Repeated favoriting and unfavoriting of stories

Well to me this is harassment, and it's one of the factors making me visit LitE less and less.

Maybe PookacioisOne is reading it one word at a time.

LOL - yeah a PookaciousOne hiccup

Maybe, but I have seen a story faved several times in a row then unfaved as many times fav author as well. I wonder if they click fav a few times thinking its not working and it shows up, then the site fixes the glitch and gets rid of them.,...

I don't know, but I have seen it.

I have to say Tim, you're really letting this person get to you.

The only thought I've had about them is they never comment-for me anyway...anyone ever get one?- unless they do as anon.

Yes - but even more the fact that it's tolerated by the site. They could easily remove that account and thus send a signal that such harassment isn't tolerated. I sent a message to Poo aages ago asking him to stop, and it only got worse. Why should I accept this? I get so few comments and people favoriting me or a story that each and every one of those 'activities' are precious to me. Having the list filled with this crap is like being mocked and taunted.

Luckily I've found somewhere else to be, so I don't need Lit as much, but it's sad to feel this way.

Have you sent a PM to either Manu or Laurel about it? They might not be aware of it otherwise.

Laurel posted in this thread that she saw no issue with what's going on here.

I'm not sure I do either except I guess it can seem annoying, but the "pookaciousone" seems to do this to a lot of people, so its not a personal thing and I have never noticed a one bomb or a nasty comment that coincides with him faving or unfaving a story.

As someone suggested maybe they don't like to keep any favs listed for long so people don't know what they read....

course if that was the case you could simply bookmark a link on your favs list on your pc and delete it once you read it.

Who knows why they do it, but I don't see a big problem with it. But everyone is different.

I PM'ed Laurel some time ago and again yesterday. No reaction, as I mentioned in an earlier post - but I guess the post she made here (#55) was my answer.

Oh and I woke up to this:

Seems like Poo loves the attention, well here's my message to him:

FUCK OFF !

Looks like it finally got to be enough. I went to check P-One's favorites, and I'm getting the "profile banned" message.

That's good. That said, it was a minor annoyance compared to all that needs to be worked on around here. It wouldn't be my first (or twelfth) choice of a problem to fix.

I got the treatment also from two sources, PookaciousOne and Peteswick. Learning that people use the favor button to bookmark for later reading eased my mind considerably.

I sent an inquiry to them hoping to learn what they were doing but got no response.

Now I'm thinking after listening to everyone that this is probably an alias account for someone that doesn't want to be known for reading porn. They never check e-mails and they delete everything to hide their activity from their boss, their spouse, their mom.

I just got used to it. As mentioned above, I have so few responses that I treasure every one, but I write because I like to. I'm happy when others read my words, even more so when they like them, but I'm going to write regardless. Constructive feedback even when it's nasty is useful for improving my craft. Being someone's favorite or not is just ego masturbation.

Okay, maybe I'm dense (yup, leaving myself wide open here) But I still fail to see why this is an issue.

If there was a correlation between this guys activities and nasty comments and bombs then I could see it, but for what eh was doing?

I have to go along with Pilot's remark that considering the shit that goes on around here, this was no big deal.

Threats of violence and rape on the boards along with racism and sexism and homophobia and all the harassment and bullying....fine.

But don't you dare repeatedly fav something!

I have to admit that while I started this thread, it was because I just wondered if there was some sort of impact from this on the ranking of the stories, which there isn't. It was just weird behavior I wanted to understand. It was actually good to learn that this wasn't targeted at me but that many other authors were getting the same treatment. I stopped giving it another thought, other than the interesting turns that this thread has taken.

In many ways, I am sorry to hear they banned him. First, he really wasn't hurting anything unless you let him. Second, it could only have pissed him off. Just like he seems to have really gone after those who contacted him (which I never would do), I suspect he will be back with a new profile and be more disruptive in whatever he does. And it just isn't worth it.

I agree to both points. He wasn't really doing any noticeable harm and that if he comes back he may very well decide to do so.

I feel bad a reader was banned for "reading" due to some odd habits

yet the LW trolls who threaten violence and spew all manner of hate are left alone.

The whole issue is minor enough to just let loose of now--for those not prone to beating drums to death.

That's good to know, I got the same message, when I tried.

Thanks again, Ripley, for starting the thread which lead to this.

Thanks to Laurel / Manu for dealing with the matter.

Someone mentioned peteswick, but while I have seen some favoriting/unfavoriting, that reader also leaves comments. It looks like pure bookmarking activity to me.

I've seen that name as well, but as you said he comments sometimes.

There is a reader "lustywheels" that over the course of at least three years Has faved me and unfaved me as an author on a close to monthly basis. He does leave comments from time to time, but I find that odder than someone who will fav and unfav a story....

But aside from Umbercide who we mentioned no one comes to mind for doing any strange "faving"

the joke is on me

guess what? being banned doesn't stop a member from favoriting stories. found this today:

I give up with a :)

This isn't the same type of behavior but I didn't want to start a new thread. I was favorited this morning and as I often do, I clicked on the username to see their bio to know what kind of person it is. I noted that their username was created today. I was curious about whether they created an alt just to favorite me (and get a fresh start hitting on me - it happens) so I looked at their favorite list. 29 stories already - in less than 7 hours of username existence. I wonder what is going on...

Most likely someone who just found the site and are like a kid in a candy store saying "wow, this one looks hot too!"

I do the same as you I click to see who else or what else they fav-I have found some good stories that way- and when its someone with a long list of fav authors its "yeah, okay"

But what I find flattering is when you find someone who has been a member for years, but only has a few authors on their fav page, those I take as a compliment.

Maybe it IS more of the same activity. I checked the new user's favorite list again. I noticed ALL the stories (except the last and most recent) went live TODAY. I only counted 28 now so he/she appeared to save the entire new story list and might be working thru it. Seems like a lot of work to favor so many BEFORE reading; don't they have to be on the last page to favorite? C'est la vie.

Seems like normal behavior to me for someone who is just discovering the site. And often I favorite a longer story that looks interesting but I just don't have time to read it then. When I'm done, I may or may not keep it.

I agree lovecraft, about having a longer time member favorite one of my stories. And if it is one of the well known writers, like silkstockingslover, it feels particularly good. I also really like it when someone finds one of my older stories. It's nice to see them getting some attention. It's taken me eleven years to write 33 stories, some of which are quite long, but seeing on going interest in them helps motivate me to keep going!
