I do believe the original native Americans got a raw deal but, they were fighting and killing each other over land WAY before any Europeans landed. Imagine if they had UNITED instead and all of them defended they land they mutually shared...

In asking a judge to speedily green-light the $3.8bn project, vice-president Joey Mahmoud claimed that the loss of shippers could “effectively result in project cancellation”, leading advocates and analysts to declare that a missed January deadline could be financially disastrous for ETP and a huge feat for Standing Rock.
But in emails to the Guardian, DAPL spokeswoman Vicki Granado claimed that January was just an “initial target” and not a “contractual date”, which is “much later”, though she refused to say when.
Her statement, which contradicts the company’s official court testimony on multiple occasions, has prompted accusations that the corporation has either committed perjury or is lying to reporters. (Granado claimed that the court filing didn’t explicitly say that 1 January was a contract deadline even though the language strongly suggested it was.)

A federal grand jury has been convened pertaining to Sophia Wilansky, the 21-year-old New York woman who nearly lost her arm during a November pipeline protest, according to court documents obtained by the Tribune.
The woman's father, Wayne Wilansky, has claimed the injury was caused by an alleged concussion grenade thrown by police. Police said they had no such weapons.

"Local and state law enforcement have increasingly taken steps to militarize their presence, to intimidate participants who are lawfully expressing their views, and to escalate tensions and promote fear," Archambault wrote in his letter.
Some of the police details that have arrived in Standing Rock are among the largest recipients of military transfers from the federal government, according to an In These Times investigation. The South Dakota Highway Patrol has received $2 million worth of military equipment since 2006. The Lake County Sheriff's Office in Northwest Indiana obtained $1.5 million worth of military equipment over the same time period. The Pennington County Sheriff's office in South Dakota, the Anoka County Sheriff's office in Minnesota, and the Griffith Indiana Police Department have all received assault rifles through military equipment transfer programs as well.

The security team members were "helping" the police forces by harassing the protesters in ways that endangered the protester's lives.

Disease brought over by the earliest European explorers reeked havoc on native social groups before colonists showed up. Natives are human too with the same faults as Europeans. Europeans made promises to help a tribe defeat another tribe and they agreed. Also how Britain took over India. Was not long before colonist population and high birth rate made them superior. Natives could not afford to lose a few hundred males in a battle.
Tecumseh was the natives last chance at unification. He was killed at the Battle of Moraviantown in 1813.
Are they going to give back the checks from the white men this month?

In spite of the constitutional character of treaties, these deals were often viewed cynically by those non-Indigenous people responsible for both making and implementing them as cheap and expedient ways to strip Aboriginal title from most of the lands in Canada so that resources could be exploited by other groups.

Conflicting, chaotic accounts spilled out in the wake of the arrests on February 1 of a few dozen of the water protectors who set up a small camp they named the Last Child Camp. John Hoeven, R-ND, that Acting Secretary of the Army Robert Speer had directed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to grant the last remaining easement for Energy Transfer Partners to drill under Lake Oahe. This turned out to be erroneous, and it remains unclear whether Hoeven, who was recently named chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, had been misled, or knowingly told a falsehood.

The Corps (Army corps of engineers)is supposed to walk away from the process already underway, the Environmental Impact Statement and the public comment period that is open until February 20, 2017. (However a spokesman for the Corps said that process will continue and the easement has not been approved yet).

Will federal judges tell the president no? Will litigation even be allowed (strange as those words sound)? The Trump administration and North Dakota certainly hopes not. That process takes too long in a world run by oil gadzillionaires.

The Corps must review the Presidential Memorandum, notify Congress, and actually grant the easement. We have not received formal notice that the EIS has been suspended or withdrawn. To abandon the EIS would amount to a wholly unexplained and arbitrary change based on the President’s personal views and, potentially, personal investments. We stand ready to fight this battle against corporate interest superseding government procedure and the health and well being of millions of Americans.”

Water protectors claimed that evacuation orders issued on February 15 did not give them enough time to finish clearing the debris on their own. They said they were doing fine without being pushed out, and that the move by newly elected Gov. Doug Burgum misrepresented and undermined the success of their efforts.
North Dakota officials had used numerous excuses over the months to justify the over-militarization of the police presence, then in trying to push water protectors off the treaty lands. At first it was the expression of concern over the cold winter, and then it was the impending spring floods, Goldtooth said.
“Water protectors have been through three blizzards, and there have been no deaths, no injuries” other than what the military police have inflicted on them, he said. “And now they’re using this flood as a way to get people off the ground.”

Ten unarmed water protectors were arrested and one was badly injured in a violent crackdown. Several of those arrested were journalists and legal observers, clearly targeted for their role in documenting police violence and rights violations.
Another water protector was tazed by Bureau of Indian Affair agents in the lobby of the Prairie Knights Casino.

Back to the OP, because we don't owe them anything, anymore. If you see how they treat their own lands and the destruction and disregard that they have for where they live. You would understand. The only time they pretend that they care is just an avenue to pull some more money from you suckers. I remember that commercial from my youth of the old Indians tears from the trash. My god, he is rolling over in his grave at the destruction and trashing of " scared " grounds now. So sad.
