place-saver... this one should prove fruitful

:eek::D

ok, a quickie.

pie-man

he's off the chart
a slice of sweet crust
berry delicious
at times upside down
assorted nuts
a tart experience
deep dish or finessed
crumbled or short
puffed-up or filo'd
finger-lickin'-chickin good
hammin' it up
creamy, jellied
unctuousness guaranteed
umami'd to the nth degree
hot or cold he has me
comin' back for seconds
thirds
and with a keen tongue
i wipe tell-tale crumbs
from his whiskers

Pieacopia

I’ve been teased by chocolate cream
pursed my lips at lemon merengue
a raspberry tart near broke my heart
and of maple pecan I still dream
while green tea aligned my yin yang
but beef kidney and heart makes me fart.

Yet when in a saloon singing old western tunes
dear old mom’s saskatoon makes me swoon.

Cream Pie

What pie can I give for your birthday dear?
Maybe of what Shakespeare speaks,
after all All’s Well That Ends Well. "Your date
is better in your pie…than in your cheeks"!

The best pie
was no creamy spicy swirl
of autumn. It did not
follow turkey nor precede
a long walk with cousins.
It did not wait, foil-topped
on a picnic table
for after our splashing
in the creek, our rolling
down grassy hills, arriving
green-stained, muddy,
hungry.

It was not even the tall lemon
meringue--cool, yellow
and white-peaked that I
smashed on Robin's face
after he taunted me and said
I wouldn't do it, not on that
laughing Summer day. That
was the second-best pie.

The best pie was filled
with tiny blueberries, sweet
and so fresh they escaped
the crust like errant peas.
There was a tang of salt,
a crisp breeze and the window
that carried it framed the dock,
lobster traps and bobbing
boats on the grey inlet.
Our forks scraped the plate
we shared, our kisses
were blue. I licked
a sugary crumb from the corner
of your mouth.

pie

deep dish apple pie
nestled in green and white glazed dish
heirloom apples just picked
from the old tree on P Street
tartly sweet and firm
sliced thin and layered
brown sugar and cinnamon
a lovely slurry of fresh sweetness

Aunt Virginia’s pie crust recipe
don’t forget to use ice cold water
just five Tablespoons
cutting the dough by hand
until mixed and ready
gramma’s walnut rolling pin
shapes the crust
until it is lifted
onto the ceramic plate
filled with apples to overflowing
strips of dough applied
one by one
woven in and out
creating a lovely lattice

preheated oven awaits
the scent of baked apples
permeates the kitchen
as mouth waters
the too hot to touch plate
pulled out at the ding

filling bubbling
between the golden weave
too hot to eat
and yet…
generous slices cut
as the filling collapses
into a sweet sticky puddle
topped with Wisconsin cheddar
and french vanilla ice-cream
deep dish apple pie

We are made of moments,
sweet as the cream and sugar
smooth upon my tongue.
Filling all of my senses,
full of flavour and zing
no bitterness but sharp,
like your favourite
Key lime pie.

Mine started with that idea, and a lascivious bend but grew too long and morphed into doggerel

Coming home from school on
a cold, wet East Anglian evening,
my nose is assailed
by the intoxicating smell
of Mum's steak and kidney pud.
Hot gravy oozing from the seams
over creamy mashed spuds,
carrots, peas and sprouts.
All home grown by my Dad.
Tucking into stuff to keep out the cold,
followed by homemade apple pie
and lashings of custard poured
from the Father Christmas jug.

Lemon meringue pie tastes so good, even when it's wiped from a friend's face.
