Ballerinas Forced into Prostitution

There was a story in all the newspapers a few years back where a former ballerina accused the troupe management of forcing dancers into prostitution in order to gain wealthy sponsors for the ballet. I really think it is despicable behavior, and I hessetate to suggest this for a storyline since it could actually be based on facts. I guess a good writer could put a spin on the story or use another venue for the storyline though.

Not just any troupe, BTW: the Bolshoi.

If it was in a country where prostitution was legal and common, then I think there would be nothing wrong with having an entertainment troop (ballerinas, actors, a medieval faire) where the employees were openly hired to be both performers and prostitutes. Preferably the troop would also do medical screenings on both customers and employees.

After a gymnast, a ballerina would probably be the next best type of woman to fantasize about. Think of the muscle tone! And the stamina!

And I imagine it would be more of a high-end call-girl sort of thing, rather than sordid street-walker type prostitution. Rich patrons, fancy hotel suites, fine champagne and caviar.....

I recall in Heinlein's FRIDAY mention of starship cruise lines hiring young bi performers to entertain 1st-class passenger both on- and off-stage. They're in high demand, but tend to burn out after just a couple flights. Ah, the sportin' life... And note that until maybe the last century, Euro-world stage performers *were* whores. Dancers, actresses (and some actors) were socially equivalent to streetwalkers. Probably still are in much of the less-developed world. Entertainment is where you find it.

You think its despicable yet....want to see a story about it.

Dance the Night Away

There is a long and honorable history of prostitution
in the underside of ballet. By the nineteenth
century, the terms "ballerina" and "prostitute" could
practically be used interchangeably. No decent
person would want to be known to keep company with
dancers.

In my time as a ballet student, I worked at Victoria
Secret in the mall. It was a minimum wage job. I hated
retail, but I was good at it. Eventually they put me
on commission. Others worked as baristas, or flipping
burgers or waiting tables. There weren't any
Starbuck's, or Mickey D's, or Appleby's, or shopping
malls in the nineteenth century. By the standards of
the time, prostitution was an acceptable, if not
quite honorable, profession for lower class girls.

Looking back on it, I probably should have taken a
different course. I wound up sleeping with rich,
older men for fun, and because they took me places I
could never afford. I only got paid once. I was with
this other girl, and the guys passed the hat and we
split like, $600. I felt bad about it, though,
probably because I was young and stupid. Okay, okay,
youngER and stupidER.

Things have changed in ballet since the nineteenth
century. Especially in the United States, where we
are STILL all hung up over sex, or at least the OLDER
generation is. The kids I teach all sext and hook up.
The girls at least know exactly what they want and
exactly how to get it. The guys? Mostly clueless, but
they'll catch on.

But a girl can't get anywhere in dance these days by
sleeping around. I was in a class of thirty. There
were six boys, and four of them were gay. There's
nothing wrong with being gay, but they're Not
Interested in girls. I auditioned for Field Ballet
and got a callback! I probably would have gone for it
the Old Fashioned Way, but the A.D. was crushed on
this sixteen year old guy from Peoria and I never
had a chance.

I know not a few girls (college students generally,
not only dance students) that "date" successful,
older men. They have nice clothes and shoes and
accessories and drive nice cars and have boyfriends
their own age. They just "go out" evey other Saturday
or so, sometimes to a nice hotel downtown, sometimes
a weekend in Verona. I suppose this is "prostitution,"
but most girls in my generation at worst look the
other way.

None of this is really "forced," but it isn't too
hard for me to imagine a forced situation. In fact,
I find it kind of hot! "Force" can mean "weak" force:
"I need the money" or "strong" force: "I'll lose my
scholarship." Forcing a girl into sex is NOT
acceptable behavior, but neither is racketeering.
Look at all the wildly successful "gangster" novels.

So, go for it!

Love,

Jamie

I watched every Saw and every Hostel. Doesn't make what happens any less despicable. Hell I think that's a huge under statement.

Blech...torture porn I prefer less in your face and more suspense and "creepy".

Saw and the other are the modern version of what back in our day was 2000 maniacs and scream bloody gore and that goofy stuff.

I can appreciate creepy as well but that doesn't prevent my from enjoying Saw. I think romance is the only category I consistently end up wondering wtf did I just end up watching.

The one area my wife and I never agree with is movies (except for Marvel movies those we see together) she has no clue what the fun of being creeped out is

Yet I'll walk into the room and she is sitting there balling over some depressing chick flick and I'm like "How the hell can something that makes you sad be entertaining?"

It Ain't Me, Babe

No, last I heard. "Silkstockinglover" was a GUY. I have never ever worn silk stockings, (not that there is anything wrong with it) It's just so, so FORTIES. Even my GRANDMOTHER didn't wear silk stockings.

Love,

Jamie
