Do submissions HAVE TO HAVE sex in them?

I'm considering a story where there isn't any sex. Lots of misdirection and wondering but no sex. Mostly because the character who is doing the teasing is never identified. Which would be the point of the story - a kind of whodunnit with no reveal at the end leaving you wondering; WAS IT Col Mustard with the wonder lube?

Thoughts on how well this would be received?

I don't think so no, but it depends on the content to be well recieved. I mean take the series "surefoot" that's a pretty good series with no sex in it.

Here's a tag no sex.

and please EquinoxRising, don't bugger up this thread by removing my post. The purpose of the tag is not to help the OP to find a story but to indicate that such stories exist so the OP is probably safe with no sex in his/her story. Not everyone is into anal gang-bangs with one's relatives.

Story doesn't need any sex in it to get published here. I have one that has none and isn't in non-erotic. It's done surprisingly well too.

(PS. I'm done editing, just getting the comments in your document. I'm hoping to be done and have it back to you today. :))

Some stories are girls, some are boys. It is important because without both there can be no more stories. I do hope you're not desexing them. That would be very naughty.

Here we differentiate between pr0n and soft erotica. Pr0n needs fucking. A romance might have no sex but many longings or memories. My historical romance The Botanists contains only one explicit sex act, but lots of intimations. A story might follow the development of an online romance between players who have not met, don't do online sex games, 'merely' share their thoughts. The ending might be just before they meet.

I'll also distinguish between stories with no explicit sex vs those that don't involve sex. The latter can go in Non-Erotic -- or, find a way to make them fit a sexual category. The quotidian lives of a couple who turn out to be siblings ==> Incest. The quotidian lives of a couple of aliens or vamps or were-critters ==> SF&F. The quotidian lives of folks wearing chains leather and restraints ==> BDSM. Same-sex quotidian lives; cross-dressers ' quotidian lives; what a pimp or madam or streetwalker or escort does when they're not sexual. Et cetera.

Or just write something totally non-erotic and post it in Non-Erotic. Why not?

According to modern ideas, in a perfect world, there will be no more males.
Look around, you can see it's already happening before our eyes.

With respect to people you're certainly correct.
Thank you. Soon it would seem the catagory of nonerotic will be substantially larger and hetrosexual sex a fantasy. Perhaps there will be nice museums for men as exhibits.

The stories do not have to have sex in them.

I write some stories in which the sex is implied, not explicit. Some of my stories have no sex at all.

But the non erotic category has very low views.

The story I have in mind isn't non-erotic, just no sex. I want to leave the reader wondering and using their own minds to finish the story to their own satisfaction.

Was it Col Mustard? Or the Maid? Maybe it was the Candlestickmaker? WHO would do such a thing and not own up to it! WHO DAMMIT!!

Thank you minx. I'm still hoping it's not junk. Remember, there's NO rush.

Your question was whether or not it had to have sex in it, and you got the answer for that. Perhaps what you meant was whether it had to have eroticism in it? If it does, there are categories other than Nonerotic it would fit in; if it doesn't, there still is the Nonerotic category you can put it in.

That answers whether it can be placed here, not how well it will be accepted. This is an erotica site, and there will be readers who expect what is posted here to arouse them. You're subject to being slammed by them if they don't think it does. There's nothing anyone can do about that--they are taking the site literally.

Sounds like a clever idea. Post something when you submit it.

As a newbie, I find the question a good one.

The way I figure it, porn and erotica are basically the same thing, though when I think "porn" it's bjs, anal, gang-bangs, gonzo and semen all over the place. When I think "erotica" I think of wealthy socialites with riding crops and stilettos with either classical in the background or some pretentious industrial-goth music—as opposed to non-pretentious industrial (such as Miinistry's cover of Lay Lady Lay or Ministry - Test).

At the risk of it sounding like a plug, two stories I've been working on for a while I have here in the form of Story Idea threads:
It is a place where women rule.
CMNF club

I intend to chop them up into parts. Could the different parts go into varying categories, including Nonerotic?

Where would one put:

1. what I figure is explicit sex:
e.g. "She licked the last gram of semen off of his penis while it was still somewhat erect."

2. what I figure is implied sex/references to sex:
e.g. "They expressed their desire for each other." or "They had sex a while ago in the garden."

3. what I figure is no sex:
e.g. "The two nude buxom lesbians meet, gave each other perfunctory kisses, and continued walking in opposite directions."

I also intend to make good use of tags as that's how I generally look for stories here.

Tags I'm considering for such:

no sex
nosex
no-sex
none-sexual
non-erotic
nonerotic
description
intro
introduction
mild sexual
mild sexual activity
verbose
some might find verbose
no plot
not much of a plot

and the like

In addition to the "non-erotic" category, there are examples of non-sexual stories in many of the categories.
But make sure it's well-written. There's no excuse if there's no sex.

Click the link below and read Safety Net.

Then tell me, was there sex in the story or no.

In my favourite stories here I don't even remember if there was sex or not.

But if there's sex who cares?

Nothing yet submitted on LIT

But I'm assuming the author of "The House of Scarlet", which is a full length novel if that answers your question.

That's what I noticed, too. I thought NON-Lit authors couldn't promote their off-site work.
