An 18-year-old Columbus, Ga., teen will spend the next five years in prison, plus 10 years on probation, after stealing a pair of Nike sneakers when he was 15.

Dayonn Davis took the shoes from the unsuspecting owner who tried to sell them on Facebook. But despite the fact that he has no prior criminal record, Judge Bobby Peters handed down the stiff sentence, according to the Ledger-Enquirer.

“I don’t get that,” Peters said while sentencing the teen for robbery this week. “Must be some valuable shoes.”

Those “valuable shoes” were a pair of Nike Oreos that sometimes come with a price tag of more than $100.

Aaaand on the white boy side of the divide:

Ethan Couch, whose trial for killing four people while driving drunk sparked widespread conversations about the privilege of being raised wealthy, was released from a Texas jail on Monday after nearly two years.

Mr. Couch, 20, became known as the “affluenza teen” after a psychologist suggested during his trial that growing up with money might have left him with psychological afflictions, too rich to tell right from wrong. He attracted further attention when he and his mother, Tonya Couch, fled to Mexico in an effort to evade possible jail time.

He served his 720-day sentence in a jail in Tarrant County, and was freed about a week before his 21st birthday.

Ms. Couch, 50, had been freed on bond while awaiting trial on a felony charge of hindering apprehension. But she was arrested last week after the authorities said she failed a drug test, violating the conditions of her bond, according to The Dallas Morning News.

5 years for that? I definitely would’ve threw a chair or something at that judge.

While the affluenza kid definitely needed way more time in the joint, there is more to the story that you failed to point out. It mentions that his partner in crime pulled a gun on the guy during the robbery. That's probably why he got five years since he was an accomplice to the crime. It's like if you were the getaway driver for bank robbers and one of the robbers shot and killed some tellers. They would all be charged with murder...including the unarmed driver that was outside waiting in the car.

The moral:
If you don't want to do time, don't do the crime.

Also about the huge and shady money transactions that went down between that kids rich parents and that judge who immediately resigned after closing that case.

I forgot the details as that was a while back but like 6 weeks after it all went down and everyone had a chance to dig through all the official info releases and such it was pretty clear there was corruption afoot. Scumbag judge meets desperate parents with money.

And that kid should be doing a solid stay in the big house for getting drunk and killing those people....don't want to do the time, don't do the crime.

All the better argument for reforming sentencing guidelines in Texas as well as most other states.

Also, two different states.

We all know that laws aren't the same in each state, right? That's the whole point of having states.

Still in all 5 years with no priors and being a juvenile is still too much for a armed robbery.

And again you left out a critical fact: he had no idea his friend had a gun.

How can you be this stupid and still be breathing?

And there is no possibility that he might be lying. Criminals never lie btw...FACT!!! Even if he was being truthful, he took part in an armed robbery.

Well of course, in your demented world, he's black, therefore he's lying!!!

It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the court didn't give a damn whether he knew the guy had a gun or not...

Aaaaand here's the judge who gave Manafort a sentence of only 47 months in jail:

https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a26762905/manafort-sentencing-judge-ellis/
In 2009, when Democratic congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana famously got caught with 90-grand in cold, ill-gotten cash in his home freezer, Ellis threw the book at him, sentencing Jefferson to 13 years, the longest bid ever doled out to a congressman in a bribery case. Jefferson, it should be noted, was black. Ellis was appointed to the bench by President Ronald Reagan in 1987.

Anyone can lie, especially if they're looking at jail time. The color of their skin and their gender makes no difference. And how do you prove that he's being truthful about it or not? Just because he says so and he happens to be black does not gain an individual extra honesty points.

Dinesh D'Souza (an Indian American conservative) was convicted of a felony and sentenced to 5 years for election fraud (which is unheard of). The amount in question was around 20 grand. Rosie O'Donnell (a white, lesbian, progressive woman) did the same thing with 5 times the amount of money and was let off with a fine.

I realize that the folks who react the angriest when pointing out racial disparities in the justice system are the biggest racists themselves. Perhaps they don't want to face the truth.

that's the problem with liberal twats and what they call a crime...

steal a candy bar from a gas station and you should go free,,,

even if you executed the cute elderly couple that were standing in line with you, and the two store employees.

Scumbag judge meets desperate parents with money.

For real?
Just like in the movies, "The Jurror".

Once again you pull shit out your ass LT.

First of all two different jurisdictions. Two different state law guidelines. You're comparing apples to oranges.

The TX kid, and his mother, should be under the jail. It stunk when it all came down and it still stinks today.

As far as the GA kid goes what's his rap sheet? If this is his first offense the judge should be in jail with him. But if his rap sheet is as long as your arm we're talking about a habitual offender and he got what he deserved.

The Whites Win Again, only it was a white crip behind the wheel of a gangland shooting.

From the Article:

A Palos Verdes Estates man was acquitted Monday on charges of murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man in South L.A. last year.

The case made headlines in October after Cameron Terrell, 18, then a senior at Palos Verdes High School, was arrested in connection with the slaying. Prosecutors argued that Terrell joined a gang and drove two fellow gang members to rival gang territory. The two teens then confronted Justin Holmes, who was fatally shot in broad daylight near South Western Avenue and West 78th Street. Terrell was released on $5-million bail seven days later.

Personally, I feel Justice should be quick and without malice, no matter who commits the crime. Like revenge: It should be served cold.

I live in Georgia so I already know how bad the 3 strikes and you’re out rule is bad. First two crimes very bad, third crime a bullshit mediocre crime and they throw the book at you. That’s why they are trying to change the laws here to reflect that. Hell, even a bullshit DUI charge on the third offense could get some serious jail time. I’m willing to bet the kid had a a rap sheet that was pretty extensive.

That kid in Texas that got off because of “Afluenza” would be under the jailhouse in Georgia no questions asked.
