Love affair with Rumi

I have a friend who is of the Feri Tradition and he is very much into Sufism, who introduced me to Rumi and I have to say his words describe so much of what I feel and more beautifully than I ever could.

I enjoy the piece of writing you have in your signature :)

Blessings to you :rose:

A night full of talking that hurts,
my worst held back secrets. Everything
has to do with loving and not loving.

This night will pass.
Then we have work to do.

This being human is a guest house.
every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertian them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of all its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

The Hunt-Rumi

The Lover comes, the Lover comes!
Open the way for Him!

He's looking for a heart,
let's show Him one.

I scream,
"What you came to hunt is me!"

He says laughingly,
"I'm here not to hunt you but to save you."

This is beautiful, much healing work to be done when truths are spoken into
the dark of the night. I had not read this piece.

Thank you! :rose:

The minute I heard my first love story
I started looking for you,
not knowing
how blind that I was

Lovers don't finally meet somewhere
They're in each other all along

I lived this one...and try to live it..to realize everything I do, should come from a place of love..impossible yes...but so is a pure love until we become one...

Gamble everything for love,
if you are a true human being
if not, leave this gathering
half heartness doesnot reach into majesty.
You set out to find God,
but you keep stopping for long periods
at meanspirited roadhouses.

I have read this one several times, and he speaks the truth. All of our emotions, feelings, perceptions can teach us. Dancing with the shadows as well as the light. :rose:

I just want to thank everyone for keeping this thread going. For whatever reason I am being surrounded by those who are drawn to his words and I am loving it!

Blessings to you all and have a beautiful weekend.

Beautifully said :) All we can do is start each day in love and hope we end it in the same. I try as well, some days better than others lol

I agree with Pandora, I love this as well. Risks are always worth taking for love...both kinds, spiritual and love between two people. And if you are lucky it can feel like one and the same.

Rumi has some of the most beautiful poetry written on this earth
(of course this all in a matter of opinion)
But I'm pleasantly surprised to find other lovers of Rumi here on Lit

One of my favorites :

But the body's desires, in another way, are like
an unpredictable associate, whom you must be
patient with. And that companion is helpful,
because patience expands your capacity
to love and feel peace.
The patience of a rose close to a thorn
keeps it fragrant. It's patience that gives milk
to the male camel still nursing in its third year,
and patience is what the prophets show to us.

The beauty of careful sewing on a shirt
is the patience it contains.

Friendship and loyalty have patience
as the strength of their connection.

Feeling lonely and ignoble indicates
that you haven't been patient.

Be with those who mix with God
as honey blends with milk, and say,

"Anything that comes and goes,
rises and sets, is not
what I love." else you'll be like a caravan fire left
to flare itself out alone beside the road.

Thank you for sharing your favorite BambiLenoir, I agree it is a very beautiful piece. My favorite line is "Feeling Lonely and ignoble indicates that you have not been patient" so very true....

Wishing you a beautiful evening :) :rose:

Essence is emptiness
Everything else,
accidential.
Emptiness brings peace
to loving.
Everything else, disease.
In this world of trickery
Emptiness
is what your soul wants.

This is beautiful! I remember being in a place where the foundations were ripped out from under me. I was told that I was given the gift of being empty and to just be.

Thank you for sharing! :)

Lost to one who seems not care,
I feel pain, though even that is welcome
from the Other who demands everything I am.
If I withhold it now,
as worthless, the asking is precious.

I have been rereading this one...and it speaks of normal mundane encounters of people who are asleep.....and they don't care about the beauty that is around them. But Spirit demands our attn, demands everything.....which for some is can be frightful to surrender.

Got me thinking!! :) Thank you :rose:

Here is one for today :) This reminds me of the Shamanic term of "Fire of my Faith" the fire that sits at the very core of my being, the one that I feed and Spirit feeds.

Oh Beloved,
take me.
Liberate my soul.
Fill me with your love and
release me from the two worlds.
If I set my heart on anything but you
let fire burn me from inside.

Oh Beloved,
take away what I want.
Take away what I do.
Take away what I need.
Take away everything
that takes me from you.

Beautiful...we are what we give our attention to...

This spoke to me today big time....the message Balance in all things. Perfect for the Equinox!

on Life and Death ~

look at love
how it tangles
with the one fallen in love

look at spirit
how it fuses with earth
giving it new life

why are you so busy
with this or that or good or bad
pay attention to how things blend

why talk about all
the known and the unknown
see how the unknown merges into the known

why think seperately
of this life and the next
when one is born from the last

look at your heart and tongue
one feels but deaf and dumb
the other speaks in words and signs

look at water and fire
earth and wind
enemies and friends all at once

the wolf and the lamb
the lion and the deer
far away yet together

look at the unity of this
spring and winter
manifested in the equinox

you too must mingle my friends
since the earth and the sky
are mingled just for you and me

be like sugarcane
sweet yet silent
don't get mixed up with bitter words

my beloved grows
right out of my own heart
how much more union can there be

A certain Sufi tore his robe in grief,
and the tearing brought such relief he gave the robe
the name faraji, which means ripped open,

or happiness or one who brings
the joy of being opened. It comes from the stem faraj,
which also refers to the genitals, male and female.

His teacher saw the purity of the action,
while others just saw the ragged appearance.
If you want peace and purity tear away
the coverings! This is the purpose of emotion,
to let a streaming beauty flow through you.

Call it spirit, elixir or the original agreement
between yourself and God. Opening into that
gives peace, a song of being empty, pure silence.
