Sen. Elizabeth Warren made a surprising appearance at the National Congress of American Indians this week and made an even more surprising statement that she is indeed part Native American. I have been critical of the use of this label (and name calling generally) by the President and others. The sudden discussion of the controversy was unexpected by Warren. The assumption for years is that Warren had backed off from this claim made during her academic career.

She was counted by Harvard Law School as a Native American. Indeed, we first discussed this issue when Warren was still an academic and her claim that claiming to a Native American offered no advantage to her career. The speech comes at an interesting time for academia where more and more schools are allowing students to not simply choose their gender (or non-gender) but also their race.

In the videotape of the speech, Warren went after President Donald Trump for his name calling over her claim and argued that the use of “Pocahontas” was engaging in “disrespect of Native people.”

However, she then said this: “I get why some people think there’s hay to be made here. You won’t find my family members on any rolls, and I’m not enrolled in a tribe. … I respect that distinction . . . I never used my family tree to get a break or get ahead. I never used it to advance my career. . . . my mother’s family was part Native American.”

The louder and more often you squawk, the more desperate and shrill you sound.

Kinda like BB. Welcome to his club.

I'm just showing Sen. Warren a little love.

If she's going to be Sen. Sander's running mate in 2020, she's smart to address her alleged Native American ancestry now.

You're the one alleging it. Warren said, "my mother’s family was part Native American." She did not claim that she herself is.

Can someone purchase one of those DNA and me kits? She clearly cannot afford one on her own.

People have been offering to buy her the 23 and Me kit for years now. Some have even mailed a kit to her.

She REFUSES to submit a swab sample.

She knows she has something to hide. We know she has something to hide. Her base just assumes that we are racists because we will not let her self-identify.

I'm not going to say she is part Native American and I'm not going to say she isn't, because I don't know and I don't care. People calling her "Pocahontas" or "Fauxcahontas" or similar names are not making fun of American Indians; they are making fun of her personally. She is lying when she says her claimed heritage has never benefitted her, because it did so at the colleges she attended and where she was a professor, at least from what I have read.

Did she come from one of the schools that produce almost all of their professors?
Did she prevent an actual minority of a position?

I mentioned this before in another post but feel the need to again. Henry Louis Gates a fellow Harvard professor (yes, of the beer summit fame) is the host of "Finding Your Roots" a PBS program that researches "famous" peoples' family lineage. The level of research in the program is quite amazing and in addition each subject is offered a detailed DNA profile.

You would think that a fellow Harvard professor and a woman of such political importance would be invited and happy to accept an opportunity to show the world her true colors... no pun.

So you're saying that if her mother was part native American that in turn doesn't mean she is? What nationality are your parents? Whatever they are, you are. It may be a little more watered down in your blood, but its there.

My father is Russian/Polish my mother is Irish. What is my heritage? German?

As usual in order to try and troll someone you just prove yourself an idiot.

I don't mind Warren, I think she could make a decent candidate in 2020-running mate at least-but she's hurting herself if she keeps addressing an issue where she came out looking like a liar, eat the crow and move on.

Read up about DNA heritage tests and see how accurate they are.
SPOILER: Not. A dozen varied tests will return a dozen varied results.

Meanwhile, the genealogy records on my Appalachian grandparents' side shows Eastern Cherokee links, but my family didn't talk about that because uncool then. Warren says her family talked of native heritage. I have no reason to doubt that. My family records claim linkage to Calamity Jane. Kewl... should I talk her up?

Maybe you were adopted and nobody told you. It does happen.

Oh look another attempt to smear another woman while letting the trainwreck scandal in chief go scott free. Amazing.

What makes any of you yahoos think she owes anyone any explanation for this non issue when we elected an asshat that hasn't even answered to the over a dozen assault allegations, pays off porn stars, grabs women by the pussy and says in general completely off the wall insanely controversial things as a matter of course.

But somehow, some way we're supposed to pay any credence to some trumped up (ha) heritage meme of no real consequence?

Sure thing. You betcha.

Tromp and his father were convicted of racial discrimination.
Anything convicted racist Tromp says about race is shit.
Including his claim of being Swedish, not German.

Does this bother Trompniks? No more than Mormons are bothered by their founder being convicted of fraud BEFORE finding the Tablets of Moroni. Con men rule, hey?

Trump and his father were not convicted of racial discrimination. About 45 years ago, they were accused of this in a civil court, but you can't be convicted of anything in a civil court. They did agree to pay damages, but they never admitted any wrong-doing.

Absolutely. I think this is pretty cool.

I'm tempted to include her in a Group Sex sequel to my Romance tale The Botanists about actual science celebs of the period. I can probably fit Annie Oakley in there too. I need to start writing again.

That's too rich. A woman is caught, "red-handed," in a lie and pointing the lie out is "smearing" her (I guess that is a reference to white-washing.). Instead of wondering why she will not, cannot, put this issue to rest, by all means attack those whom are pointing out the obvious.

Why does it effect her electability? We quite literally elected the liar in chief.

You should just head back to the kiddie pool at this point. You're obviously in over your head.

This is just getting embarrassing at this point.

Perhaps you'd like to join us in the current century and understand that a man who lies more than any president in history calling someone out for lying about anything is beyond the stretches of even the most mundane hypocrisy. Further that somehow after electing the walking scandal and bag of lies that is 45, we should be at all concerned about Warren's remarks is laughable at best.

45 makes Bill and Warren look like Abe Lincoln in comparison.

At this point you're just a gasbag attention whore.
