That a student would resort to sex work to close the funding gap for a $60,000-a-year liberal arts education shouldn't be such a huge surprise. ("College-girl" porn is its own huge niche; it should be a comfort that at least one of those coeds is what she claims to be.) But since a frat boy at Duke outed Knox, 18, to his bros from the school's notoriously sexist Greek scene and the campus drama escalated into full-blown internet scandal, Knox's story has shed light, once more, on a double-standard—the person we jerk off to is not supposed to be the same person we take exams with. (Or do anything else with for that matter.)

Sucking cock for tuition?

"since a frat boy at Duke outed Knox, 18, to his bros from the school's notoriously sexist Greek scene"

It would be nice if that was in English.
But should the 'frat boy' who blew the whistle on her activities be condemned?

Well it is in Playboy, a notoriously loose publication aimed at American readers.:D

Why shouldn't she suck cock for tuition? A student has to find some kind of job.

I've read a number of articles about this, including a column by the woman. I couldn't do what she's doing, but I see nothing wrong with what she's doing. Duke (any college, really) is ridiculously expensive. Why shouldn't she do work she likes, that pays well, and enables her to come out of college with no loans?

And it is an awful standard. She does not deserve a lot of what's been said to and about her, and all of that says more about those people than about her. She was just minding her own business, not telling anyone until she chose to tell one person, who apparently couldn't keep his mouth shut.

"A member of a prestigious college fraternity, told his school mates about Ms. Knox's activities outside of school." - Translation for Handley.

Yes, he's an asshole.

Agreed. Although he saw her in a movie and asked her about it. She, in confidence confirmed his suspicions. He then told his frat buddies. He was an asshole for doing so.

This also shows the double standard where the man/boys can consume the porn without being condemned, but the women are condemned for making the porn.

Without the consumer there would be no demand.

What else are you going to do with a liberal arts education besides sell fries at McDonalds? :D
Bingo. Who the hell would pay a quarter million dollars for an education that doesn't give you any career training? Obviously, a lot of people do. And then they complain about their student loans. I don't get it.

Every time I hear Duke and Frat Boy it makes my trigger finger itch.

At least this girl was doing something to make money other than sponging from her daddy like they do.

In the end they were probably made because they weren't sucking their cock. Girls lucky they didn't rape her. I'm sure they would get away with it.

Rape her? Naw, they wouldn't touch her, they rather watch than participate.

Okay, I don't get this. She's on porn sites. Somebody was bound to find out. And once they figured out who she was, it was bound to get out.

"You pays your money, and you takes your choice."

It reminds me of the former porn stars or nude models that decided to become teachers... and were 'shocked' when they got fired after their employers found out. She knew what the risks were when she got into the sex industry. It was poor judgement on her part and now that it's out in the open, she'll have to deal with the consequences. Hopefully it will work out, but it's not as if she couldn't have expected it.

True. And don't forget that she was the one who confirmed it to the male student. She could have lied and said she didn't know what he was talking about. Seriously, what was she expecting to happen? She confirms to a male college student in a fraternity that she is the porn star he thought she was. Did she really think he was going to keep a monumental tidbit of information like that to himself?

Just wanted to add, before anybody started ranting: I'm not defending what's happened to her with all the media blitz, but she should have thought about what she was doing. ;)

The best way to keep your ass out of trouble is keeping your mouth shut.

I'll point out one thing. We know who she is.

She is now not just another face in the porn industry crowd. She is going to get tons of free publicity from this .

Her movies will sell more. The directors will be calling for her to come do more movies.

She may very well have expected word to get out and to do this.

Maybe. It did wonders for Paris Hilton. I never heard about that bimbo until her sex tape was "leaked."
Like I said, maybe it will work out for her. As the saying, "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about." That said, porn careers are often short-lived and most 'stars' don't transition into conventional roles.

Well, the hypocrisy (and irony) isn't just in how the male students are treating her (they'll watch the porn but won't take exams with her; as well as the fact that, as Lovecraft said, these are probably rich kids who don't have to earn their way, while she does). It's also the fact that if she'd sucked cock for tuition the other way she'd be in jail for prostitution.

I'm beyond sick and tired of the way our society lets women make money by exploiting their bodies in strip clubs and on film, but not person-to-person. WTF?

He didn't say that they're rich kids. He said that the kids were probably getting their tuition from their parents. In all probability, they're probably in debt like most other students. Those that don't get into debt either had a free ride (scholarship) or worked their way through college.

It's also the fact that if she'd sucked cock for tuition the other way she'd be in jail for prostitution.

It is what it is.

What are the "liberal arts" taught these days ?
It used (in antiquity) to be everything a citizen might be expected to know, Rhetoric, Poetry, Maths, Astronomy and so on.

Yes, he's an asshole.

Thank you for that very helpful translation. :D

On the assumption that one can actually believe this nonsense:
Further research seems to indicate that the one who blabbed is
"Big-mouthed frat boy Thomas Bagley shells out $1,000 a month as a subscriber to hard-core porn site FacialAbuse.com, according to Mike Kulich, CEO of Monarchy Distribution."

More here [and it's worth a smile or two ]

PS. It was revealed a while ago that a female student at Cambridge University managed to do similar work ('escort', etc..). She was criticised but the story went away quite quickly.

I think that he's referring to arts degrees in general. Degrees in math and astronomy are science degrees and most professionally-minded students will get an emphasis in the specialty they have interest in.

If so, I imagine that he'll probably have some explaining to do to his parents. The community his former high school is located in is generally upper-middle class, but his family's annual income is probably below $100k--not exactly rolling in enough money to pay for an expensive porn site subscription.

Here's further information from another article:
Duke University freshman Thomas Bagley has come under fire for outing porn star Belle Knox to their fellow Duke students. The double computer science and mathematics major first recognized Knox after he viewed one of her videos on a porn website several months ago. In a Duke Chronicle story on Knox, Bagley said that Knox admitted her secret to him as they walked to a pre-game on Jan. 10. She asked to keep the information a secret and he said he would. But that same evening at a rush event, the Phi Delta Theta pledge revealed Knox's identity to several fraternity brothers. By the next week, “the topic ‘Freshman Pornstar’ was trending on CollegiateACB,” details the Chronicle.

Bagley told the publication that if presented the situation again, he would have kept his promise and not revealed Knox’s secret. “She told me that I ruined her life. As much as it was her decision to go into the profession, it was her decision who to tell. I certainly would take it back. I would take pretty much that whole night back,” he said. But that hindsight hasn’t kept him free from the searing opinions of people upset by his choice to reveal Knox.

Since news of the story broke, Bagley has been slammed on Twitter by college students and people nationwide angered by his actions. His account has since been deactivated. Then just this week, an adult-industry representative wrote an open letter to Bagley, calling out the student’s own porn viewing and going as far as making him an offer to be in a porn scene.

The colorful letter from CEO of Monarchy Pictures Mike Kulich can be read here. Kulich is not affiliated with the adult-site on which Bagley first recognized Knox. He adds that he isn’t completely sure if Bagley actually subscribes to the site that he first spotted Knox on. But he reasons that since she she had shot just a few scenes ahead of being outed, Bagley “had to have seen that scene.”
So it's actually unknown if he is personally a porn subscriber, whether he used another guy's account, or if the video was copied and posted on another site.

PS. It was revealed a while ago that a female student at Cambridge University managed to do similar work ('escort', etc..). She was criticised but the story went away quite quickly.
The general public has a short attention span. I'd give it two weeks at most. On the other hand, other students at her campus are going to remember it and hold it against her, particularly other young women.

Reminds me of ... I think it was Marilyn Chambers .... The face for Ivory Soap, they dumped her like a hot potato when they found out she was a porn star. She didn't fit in with the 99 & 44/100 pure ivory soap.
