What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Election coming up, construction jobs, Union, Dems have majority in both Houses. It's best to stick to blaming Bush.

Unions have already dedicated $88 million in union dues to defeat Republicans so there has to be some sort of government slushing to get mo money in their hands. It's a ripe good "system" they have going, isn't it?

Why would you oppose this when the fed government is just going to have to pay for all this anyway? Especially when these are the exact types of jobs that Republicans approve of?

You get the Government you pay for. :)

Temporary road construction jobs. hahahaha

Fucking unions trying to make it so that America still has an auto industry (that America created in the first place and dominated for 90 years).

Yes, we are in it from lack of jobs.

The plan calls for rebuilding 150,000 miles of roads; building and maintaining 4,000 miles of rail lines and 150 miles of airport runways, and installing a new air navigation system to reduce travel times and delays.

That's going to employ a ton of people in well-paying jobs, create a load of demand for equipment and materials, generate a whole lot of spending, get people off welfare, get more folks paying taxes, get more folks healthcare, and boost a staggering amount of local economies. And like I said, we're going to be footing the bill for all this anyway. Why not front-load it and use it to boost the economy when we really need it.

You aren't giving any reason not to.

I know, have another census, just look at all the great jobs that created.

Again, the census was something that had to be done. It's in the Constitution even. And you're making the logical error (or rather lying by distortion) of comparing summer-long stimulus jobs to a massive infrastructure modernization effort. Road/bridge/rail/airport maintainence has to be done as well.

You still can't come up with a reason you're against the new infrastructure package, can you? I've almost come to the conclusion that you're against it just because you're against any Obama idea, even ones you agree with.

Love the UD rolleyes. New light rail construction costs average about $35 million per mile. By comparison, a freeway lane expansion typically costs $20 million per lane mile (a lane mile is a mile-long lane). The latest runway project cost $1 billion dollars.

Nobody said anything about light rail. Why are you bringing it up?

They are deeply worried and don’t really know what to do.”

Housing Woes Bring a New Cry: Let the Market Fall

“If we keep trying to stimulate the market, that’s the definition of insanity,” said Anthony B. Sanders, a professor of real estate finance at George Mason University.

“The administration made a bet that a rising economy would solve the housing problem and now they are out of chips,” said Howard Glaser, a former Clinton administration housing official with close ties to policy makers in the administration. “They are deeply worried and don’t really know what to do.”

So you didn't read his speech.

A transcript of Obama's speech is in my browser right now. The browser's Find feature says that the word "light" does not appear at all. Also there's no mention of light rail in the NBC Nightly News link you posted.

Did you... just make up your light rail claim?

Delete light, the price is the same fool.

So your plan is:

1) urge Obama to do nothing and let the market fail

2) then when it does, blame Obama for doing nothing and letting it fail

How come when Republicans came out with repeated stimulus packages it was a good idea?

Of course it did. Just not light rail.

Who pays for the already paid for "stimulus".

Obama said the proposal would be fully paid for. In an earlier briefing for reporters, administration officials said Obama would pay for the program by asking lawmakers to close tax breaks for oil and gas companies and multinational corporations.

Who pass on the costs to the consumer.
